I have to say that my letter likely won't be read, let alone listened to. Sarcasm has that effect on more than just everyday people. As to being a resident..... I've been there and bought cigarettes.
My letter,
To my Senator,
I am writing to express my support for the banning of electric cigarettes. Smoking is such a proven health hazard that we cannot allow any new tobacco based product not owned by the big tobacco corporations to gain a foothold. After all, due to the political muscle of companies like RJ Reynolds, we can't ban actual cigarettes. And while we can't save the half a million people who die from smoking related illness annually, we can absolutely halt the electric cigarette in its' tracks.
It makes sense. When we consider the host of other unenforceable laws passed, creating yet another underground market really is worth it. And, by banning e-cigarettes we will be able to divert resources away from the war on drugs. If we can find a couple of other things to ban, we could divert enough funds to address the proven alcohol and tobacco health disasters.
So, please, do it for the continuing profits of big tobacco. Do it so our kids will have a healthier alternative to buy from the local drug dealer. Do it because you can't afford to lose the tax revenue brought in by the current crop of tobacco smokers.
Signed,
A concerned citizen who actually quit a 25+ year pack-and-a-half daily habit in 24hours using the electric cigarette. Yeah I am still a nicotine addict, but I am not sucking in
599 additives that produce over 4000 chemicals when burned.
Have a great day. Like your friends in the House, I am sure you will do the right thing.
