New Yorkers!!! Stop with the sending of the e-mails...it's next to useless! CALL ! ! ! It doesn't take as much time as you think...especially once you've got your little speech down. When I called my IL reps, I asked the assistants who answered if they had received any calls about the bill and they emphatically said, "YES". We called our a$$es off. Those assistants certainly have to pass along the fact that they got 100, 50, or even as little as 30 calls to their bosses. I can hear them now, "Uhhh boss, we've been getting a lot of calls about the e-cig bill. I don't think anyone's happy about it."

Showing up when they have their meetings is even faaaar more effective than calling.

But emails? You're lucky if it doesn't end up in the junk e-mail filter. But during your call, it's not a bad idea to send them an email with more information and then tell them to check their inbox.

I've already sent out letters to their offices. I hope that this bill gets defeated in NY and anywhere else it rears its ugly head.

New Yorkers, you all need to get out and do your thing, just like they did in Illinois! Here's to truth. It's on our side, and hopefully once the legislators face it they will recognize it!

Unfortunately, I don't find this in the least bit amazing. Many politicians, if not most, really don't know anything more about a subject than the average person on the street. The average person on the street is woefully ignorant about anything they're not directly interested in. Their "sponsor" representative who did "so much hard work" mainly had make sure her flunkies typed up the proposal in legalese. She didn't research anything, just like most politicians don't bother digging into the facts of a subject before declaring a position on it.

This is very clearly a case of passing the buck. They're blindly deferring all responsibility to the FDA as an easy solution. In theory that's a great idea, the FDA is supposed to provide an independent and reliable judgment about whether a consumable product is safe for intended use. In practice... yeah, not so much. We all know that, but that's because we're personally invested in the topic. Most politicians aren't.

I think you've hit it on the head with selling "personal vaporizers" instead of electronic cigarettes if this type of legislation is passed. Same general scenario the tobacco supplier I used to buy from had to deal with. Politicians raised taxes on cigarette tobacco through the roof, so most suppliers of loose tobacco intended for rolling your own started calling their product "pipe tobacco" and successfully dodged the tax.

My question is whether they can outlaw the nicotine juice. We can change the name of e-cigs, we can make our own PVs if we really have to, but creating an accurately measured concentration of nic juice at home would be problematic.

That's what I'd like to know, too. Vaporizers already exist for other, already illegal plants and have been available for a long time. I think the juice is what they'd focus on if it came to it.

Exactly!
It's the Nicotine part of it that the MHRA intend to halt the supply of in the UK in just under 2 months time - in their words, "because it has an appreciable effect on metabolism when used as intended". They think it should be regulated as a medicine and all vapers treated as patients with a medical condition!!!!
Doesn't apply to tobacco though - nope, because that would make too much sense and impact taxes.

Sure until reach time the FDA can determine, how much they can tax the E-Cig. That is it in the nut shell.

Sadly, that is not the situation. As I see it, the FDA will never, never approve the e-cig in the form that we now know and enjoy it. The FDA is in the business of regulating treatments for diseases and (with the passage of the recent law) tobacco products.

The FDA has taken the stance that the e-cig is a drug-delivery device, not a tobacco product. The disease is addiction to nicotine. The only "smoking cessation" treatments FDA has approved come with very small doses of nicotine (compared with smoking) and directions to gradually reduce the amount used to zero over the course of about 12 weeks. So, if some version of an e-cig is ever "FDA approved" it will no longer work for 80% of users; it will work for 10% of users like the other NRT products.

The FDA does not have the power to impose or collect taxes on any product.

did The email awhile ago and last week did the mail and now preparing for fax round. Will follow up with phone calls on all.

I am going with my marketing and advertising mentality- (here's the fax planned to be sent today)

Subject:Will U be voting to shorten my life by 2 hours every day?

I'm age 50! PLEASE OPPOSE S7234 & A9529 as written!!
FRONT LOADED bill addressing minors w/e-cigs- the only part I support!
BACKLOADED info- Will surely bring many of us to an early grave!!
It's GIVES me NO alternative but cigarettes..

All other alternatives have not helped me!
DEC 5th quit smoking! now vaping with NO Nicotine.
-just the remaining addiction (over25yrs) hand to mouth.
Vaping of PG only; hope to stop vaping within 2-6 months.

BUT! I always want to options to be able to return to Vaping-INSTEAD of returning to cigs!!
Something I can buy for 20 bucks shouldn't cost me hundreds that I can't afford through US pharmaceutical companies.
PLEASE I am begging for my life and other addicts just like me! Stop taxing us and abusing our addiction; help us now please!

Please let me continue taking care of myself and do not shorten my life;
as well as, other adult lives by passing this bill!

Cigarettes are KNOWN KILLERS!!
Let me (an adult) have the choice- I have researched it plenty!

Sincerely,

It wouldn't surprise me if most of the reps were solely driven by terminology in their vote. After all, 'cigarette' is still an evil word whichever context it may be used in.

However, if the law gets through doesn't it mean that 'only' the sale of e-cigarettes is prohibited but not their use? Correct me if I'm wrong but could New Yorkers keep buying all their gear online and vape away?

I assume that prohibiting the use will be quite difficult, if not impossible, as all components are perfectly legal.

* trying to be optimistic here *

It will just be a matter of time before they make it illegal to ship e cig supplies into NY. They have done it with reg cigs. You cannot buy cigs out of state and have them shipped into NY its illegal, has been for 5-7 years (I used to ge mine mail ordered from NC until this happened). If this law passes and we find ways around it they will pass one for shipping it in.

Its NY they don't give 2 craps about us. They are so strapped for money they will do anything. If this bill does pass, us New Yorkers MUST let them know at the next election that we do not like how they do business.

I have sent my emails and will be following up with phone calls. I am too far away from the capital to go to meetings but if one of the reps shows their face in my area I will be there to ask them the questions.

There is a loophole for everything. The federal government tried to outlaw flavored tobacco, so what did the tobacco companies do? Change the name to "cigars" and package them in sets of 12.

If it comes down to it, I will partake in the vapor underground when it all goes down. I just found this product, and I don't intend to give it up anytime soon, regardless of what some pigs in Washington do.

The solution is simple, it's just the government being the jackasses they are notorious for being. Make the sale of nicotine to minors illegal. Wait, isn't that a law ALREADY?

Calls, snail mails, faxes, and e-mails are all helpful. And if you already sent letters (via e-mail, snail mail or fax), follow it up with a call.
