Hey guys :)

I'm currently using a mistic cig I bought from walmart a couple months back. It helped for a while but I was still smoking regular cigs and eventually stopped using the ecig altogether. Well my interest in ecigs is back because I really do need to quit smoking. I need advice on a good not too expensive starter ecig. I saw the V2s and all the reviews and I thought it was perfect than I read about how they're not in fact the best or even close. Now I don't know where to even start looking. I like the size and feeling of the mistics, v2s and blus so I definitely want something that feels like that type of design. I'm looking for something about $40 - 50 and hopefully get 2 batteries.

I know this sort of thread gets posted often but if you could help me out I'd much appreciate it.
Thanks!

I use the eGo batteries - and Vivi Nova tanks. You could probably get a nice starter kit at one of the vape shops that would be within your budget. You should check them out.

Edit: Everyone who starts out seems to want the cig-style (me included). But once you get past that, and into the better equipment, it will become a much better experience for you. I started on Blu, that didn't get me to stop smoking, but when I moved over to the eGo set up, the cigs went out the window and I haven't looked back. Good luck and welcome aboard!!

I wouldl 2nd the "eGo" I quit smokign using eGos and started with atomizer drips..then discovered clearomizers. fasttech.com has great prices on eGos..I would recommend the 1000 as it has a longer battery life. I recently (a week ago) got the Vamo and it definately gives great vapor but still trying to figure out all the settings LOL iClear 16 are simple inexpensive clearomizers and hold 1.5 ml so you dont have to constantly drip juice and it doesnt leak all over.

Sitting down, facing forward.
You made a good first step by coming to ECF. There are lots of nice folks here who can provide advice and assistance to help you along and find what works best for you.

Think about what you are really trying to accomplish. Do you want something that looks and acts like a cigarette? If so a mini system with automatic batteries like Volt is probably the best thing to try. If you don't mind something that is relatively heavy and needs one hand to operate it, IE can't be used "no hands" like a cigarette, then try an inexpensive variable voltage battery and inexpensive tank system.

I was a one to two pack a day smoker for 50 years and the Volt system has kept me off of tobacco for over a year now and I have no desire to go back. I am a tinkerer by nature, but like the KISS principle when it comes to vaping and Volt makes that very easy. Volt/Smokeless Image uses the 808 thread system. All of their batteries are sealed to prevent damage and regulated to provide consistent performance. If you choose them, I would suggest the 78mm batteries since they have about 50% more capacity than the 65mm, IE they last about 50% longer between charges and can be used like a regular cigarette. They also offer larger batteries, X2 series, mid sized batteries and a varialble voltage battery as well. All of their cartomizers, clearomizers and other devices work with either the cig-a-like batteries or the larger batteries. Their customer service and shipping are excellent.

In the end the solution that works for you is the only "right" solution.

I have a small collection of "mods" with variable voltage, variable wattage and a pile of different delivery systems, but I still use my Volt 78mm batteries on a daily basis. Their convenience, durablility and reliability are very hard to beat, plus they can be used "hands free" like a regular old cigarette. No, I'm not a Smokeless Image employee, I just think their products a very good and perform as advertised.

I think you will be surprised at how little you will ultimately care about it having to have the cigarette like aesthetic look...Getting something that stimulates the sensation of smoking is more important than whether or not you need to fit it between two fingers. With that said, you don't need some huge devise...Get a few mini eGo batteries and an iClear 16 clearomizer...They give you great taste and a solid throat hit that makes you fall in love with vaping on day 1....Check out FastTech for best prices.

We have a saying... If it looks like a cigarette, your doing it wrong.

I cant write too much right now, but best way to get started is an Ego battery and a Vision Tank or Clearomizer and some tasty sounding liquid

if you need help getting started please call the number at Vape New York - New York's choice for e-cigarettes and tell them Michael Hernandez told you to call, ask for spike or phil

or if you dont want to call just order this eGo Vision Minikit : VapeNY... New York's Choice for Electronic Cigarettes, VapeNY... New York's Choice for Electronic Cigarettes and add some liquid to your order, I think they also have videos and how to's to get you started... sorry for short response i gotta head out.

Hey and welcome Seef!

You are about to get a lot of recommendations. Most will tend towards some eGo setup with a tank or clearomizer setup. I would recommend the same even though it sounds like you want something that looks and feels like a cigarette. I, like a lot of noobs, made exactly the same request. I did listen, for once in my life, and got a starter kit with a couple of eGo 650 mah batteries and a CE4 clearomizer. I then went ahead and bought the Joyetech eRoll cig-a-like because I was going to Magic Mountain (roller coaster heaven) and did not think my bigger setup would survive the rides. I don't regret the eRoll purchase and I will use it in similar situations again but I am so glad I didn't start with the cig-a-like!!!

There are tons of good starter kits around. If you can wait 2 weeks then FastTech ships for free and has a few starter kit options for $15 - 20. They are what I described as recommended. If you are like me and can't wait that long, there are a lot of suppliers listed in a section on this forum that can ship it to you in a couple days.

The best advice I saw when I posted my question on this was...pick one and get started. Don't let all the info paralyze you.

Good luck and enjoy!

Holy crap...in the minute or so it took to type my response, 4 people did what I said would happen.

This is such a great place to get info, advice, and suggestions! :D

Agreed! I expected to have to wait a day for one or two replies at all. I'm impressed :)

I knew it was going to be a newb request that I wanted it to look and feel like a real cig... :) That's sort of why I'm not trying to drop too much money into it right now. I do like the idea of a manual battery and was looking at all the eGo products but there is a lot and it's pretty overwhelming.

As excited as I am, I don't mind waiting a little bit. I was looking on the forums and I did find the fast tech site but there's so much on there. I figured I'd ask rather than pick some random stuff and hope for the best.

Can't go wrong with cig-a-likes either. Only problem is, after the first 2-6 weeks with a cig-a-like you'll be jumping ship to the eGos anyways. And then come the Twists, and VVs, and mods, oh my!

I am guilty of using cig-a-like batteries though. Mostly when I drive and am in a place where no one bats an eye at me with a cig-a-like but if I break out my eGo (or when I get my evic tomorrow) I feel I'll get charged for attempted assault. XD

I started vaping 2 weeks ago with the V2 starter kit that came with 2 batteries. I also ordered some liquid and blank cartomizers. I have already placed an order with Smokeless Image for 2 of their X2 batteries and a few clearomizers. While the V2 has been a good place to start, I wish I had found the forums 1st and realized how little it matters what it looks like. What matters most is taste and vapor. I have not received my order yet, so I was really glad to read Awsum140's response to your question. With the V2 I end up changing out batteries about every two hours, but, I am hooked on the Grape juice I bought and use it a lot. I am sure they would last longer with someone who was not vaping as much as I am. Just my newbie 2 cents.

You can start anywhere you like. But, if you are serious, you'll have two variable voltage ego's with vivi novas or evods with a protank within 60 days, more than likely. That's why you see the vets all recommending the bigger, longer lasting batteries. I see that happen on this forum about 40 times every day. So, it doesn't matter where you start, where you will end up is very predictable, and, of course, there are reasons for that. If you would like those reasons, just ask, and about 30 people will be happy to clue you in about it over the next hour. Welcome and Vape On!

BTW, I couldn't quit on the cigalikes. Needed more power (battery life) and stronger juices. But that's just me. Good luck to you!
