This is my first day making diy
I made a Cantaloupe and it came out pretty good

Tried Blackberry and Lemon and they taste like soap :(

Using 50/50 mix
Trying 5%-10% flavor

What am I doing wrong and how can I fix it?

Thanks in advance
Larry

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!
I ran a google search on this and found about 100 people had the same opinion

vape your usual nic strength with your normal PG & VG, just substitute PG for flavoring.

Then try the same thing, but also substitute PG for the nicotine.

The fact that a 5 and 10 percent total flavoring mix taste the same has me wondering about the bases. I haven't tried FA's lemon, but the Blackberry needs significantly more flavoring to go soapy on me. I'm trying to determine if you are a super-taster or if something is funky with your base. Process of elimination, my standard SOP.

I can't handle FA Blackberry either, or TFA for that matter in any percentage. I used 4 or 5 drops of it in a recipe, which is less than .25% with the droppers I have, and it was horrible. i couldn't vape it even after weeks of steeping and tossed it. Bluemist Blackberry fizz is on my list to try but I haven't yet.

I can't help with the FA/base/soapy issue, but if turns out to be the flavoring that you don't like....I wholeheartedly recommend VapingZone's super concentrated blackberry. Very VERY good, and easy. Mix it up at 2.5-4% depending on how strong you like your flavor, 1% of tart & sour is optional but not at all necessary. Tastes very much like an actual blackberry.

Of the 70 plus FA flavors I've mixed, the Blackberry is the only one that had a soapy taste. The soapy taste was there at any percentage and steep time. The only other FA flavor that is as disgusting as Blackberry is Cam T Ultimate tobacco. It has a very pungent cologne taste. Other than those two, I am really satisfied with that brand of flavorings. I have Lemon Sicily and enjoy it at 10-15% with no hint of soapy taste.

I saw somewhere on ECF that Humco VG is possibly soapy tasting. Also noted that it was cheaper and lower purity but like some ridiculously low pecentage difference.??

I don't recommend the Humco glycerin at all. For one thing, there's no guarantee that it's vegetable glycerin, although it probably is most of time because it's slightly cheaper. But it can be animal glycerin, depending on what the 'batch' was sourced from. (Info that it can be either one is from a Humco rep, as reported by a wally world sales lady). Another thing is it's not the best tasting even when it is vg.

The best tasting vg is from palm imo.

Best VG I've found to be is ESSENTIAL DEPOT's usp kosher vg.

I'd not use any other.

(Generally I buy my fruit flavorings from Capella or TFA.....coffees, teas + creams from Flavour Art, bakery types from Capella only, tobacco from FA or TFA, certain other flavors Grape (LorAnns), Ecto cooler (Flavor west)...

Without being any more specific I hope I've helped you.

This is an interesting topic about quality of VG's and flavors.
I'm not tryng to bash anyone but I just bought some RTV's from MtB and they were really soapy. I have now steeped for 48 hours with lid off.
Not sure how they are but I cut some down using the MtB VG that was provided and some of their flavors. It became useable.
So I reckon I went terribly wrong asking for to extra flavor shots of soap in each mix. Someone might find this amusing.
Extra Flavor Shot anyone? Whats on the menu: "Soap"! Add 20c:2c:

I 2nd the VZ super concentrated blackberry - it tastes great alone or as a component in mixes - it's very strong needs only 2.5 -3%

OK, now for my stupid questions.

What does your base taste like without flavoring?
What does you base taste like without flavoring and without nicotine?

These are Essential Steps EVER person needs to do when they Buy New Nicotine Base, PG or VG.

You have to be Certain that the Non-Flavored components of DIY are just that, Non-Flavored.

ie: No Soapy or Chemical Taste.
