hello new to the forum not new to vapein. I want to get a dna chip to put with nimh batts well because I have everything and wouldn't need to buy any lithium batts and charger. So I emailed brandon at evolvapor (which I was surprised I actually got a reply from him!) He said that the max voltage of the dna chip would be 4.3 volts (incoming volts) so I would have to use 3 nimhs.

SO has any pucksters out there tried, failed, success? Plus I have to post here until I get enough posts. thanks all!!

Go say "Welcome to ECF" to a bunch of newbies. Wait an hour. Post in the modder's section. You'll get more replies that way.

IDK about voltage and amp requirements for the DNAxx nor the # of batteries that would be best off hand. 4.3 volts doesn't sound familiar but I haven't looked at DNA specs in ages. Ask the brain trust.

There's tons of threads there too, you may be able to figure it out if you do a forum search there.

EDIT: 4.3 volts max makes sense if it is designed for a single Li cell (well, IMR high drain). Watch out for amp limits for series batteries...check specs. 1.2v in series is 3.6 since NiMH is different, but the amp limit would still be the amp limit of a SINGLE cell.

The big problem with using 3xAA NiMH batteries with the DNA20 board would be the voltage drop of the cells under load. The battery voltage will drop ~.3 volts per cell, bringing full load voltage to more like 4.1 fully charged, not considering boost. Under boost, which is what the DNA20 board does, you're looking at a greater voltage drop, causing a proportional increase in current draw.

Granted, the input current limit of the DNA20 board is 7A, so it may perform fine, but your battery life will be limited. I think you should go for it. I would, but I still haven't convinced myself to part with $50 for the board yet. :2c:

thanks for the reply sorry for delay but I'm not getting email notifications. That was my main concern was the battery life that I would get out of 3 nimhs. I think I'll go for the mvp style. I have to say I've been using my puck 4aa for about a month and not having to think about charging for two days is nice. Next step is to make a "square tube" mod using the 4aa pack with the 9 volt conector on the top. Its actually really small just need to hook everything up will post pics. Another question would copper contacts resting against the pos and neg 9v connections be fine? thanks again

one more question for you guys. Have you bought the nichrome wire from a hobby king before? Just rebuilt a vivi nova head and it lasted me like 2 hrs before giving up the ghost 2.7 ohms?! Going back to my dripping and my smoke51 atomizers. (they actually work pretty well 2.9-3 ohms and last about 2 weeks plus they will replace them for me for free:p see those mall kiosk ain't so bad) It looks pretty thick its nichrome for a hot wire thing for cutting Styrofoam. Tried doing a 3.2 but I couldn't fit it inside the head. Will try again tomorrow. Who knew you could go through 4ft! so quick. What RBA do you all think is a good match for the puck? thanks again!

amp limits? nimh batteries can't catch on fire :p. No until I get a dna I'm going to do an mvp with a much smaller profile. thanks again for your replys

Sigh.

You didn't provide a link, but said something about modding something with a 9 volt connection on it. I assumed it had circuitry. So........

Yes I want to essentially put this 4 AA Battery Holder : Battery Holders | RadioShack.com inside of a square tube. Have a spacer with possibly two copper prongs neg and pos to make contact with the 9volt type connector on the top. All in all with the original puck guts it should be a pretty small profile. I'm wondering if the madvapes or some similar vv board would fit the same diameter.

And this is the wire I'm using to rebuild the coil in the vivi nova Sub Terrain Hot Wire Replacement Wire 4'

brawndo, I'm looking at using the same battery holder, but I'm considering getting two of them and snapping them together. l'm thinking of cutting the top one in half and stuffing a switch, momentary switch and 510 connector inside with epoxy to fill in the gaps and hold it all together.

Also thinking about modding one of these instead. Maximalpower LED Blocklite Snap on 9V Battery Cap Dual White LEDs Flash Light | eBay

I've already made a Puck and am looking at more compact designs using 4AA NIMH cells.

exactly! that battery holder is so small and all of the pucks "components" switch, led, could fit in half inch or so above that. Still haven't found one i did find this though http://www.dhgate.com/product/10pcs-50-25-25mm-l-w-h-aluminum-project-box/133261070.html its close but I haven't measured the pack or what I need the size of the case. I think there is a 3d printer site somewhere I saw on one of the modding forums here that you can submit the drawings and they will print one for you, IDK how cost effective that would be though. And yes It must be AA, AAA only will last me from 7am-5pm, the doubles will get me a complete day 7am-2am.

(this wasn't supposed to show up twice)
