First of all this is my pet project to help my husband quit smoking, I myself quit cold turkey more than 12 years ago and btw,,vaping seems very desirable and am still rejecting it..sigh!!!

Ok equipment he is trying, Kangar Ivod Mega..bought different juices all tobacco flavours, different strengths highest being 18mgs.

Observations he puffs it like a cigar every 10 seconds for about 10 mins and puts it down. While driving in car he is using it because I hate smoke in the car/ Last might he puffed almost non stop for an hour while driving to the reservation to buy cartons of smokes.

He has suggested he would try some black cherry kinds of flavours with less nicotine.
He also said not to buy new equipment that he will tell me when he wants something else.

I know he should be doing this himself but he has no motivation to change and is willing to try what I hand him. I am not pushing him to do anything and trying very hard not to turn him off .
I gently make his pen available to him and he seems to take it with him most of days and times without reminding,, so he is accepting it sort of.

This is what I need help with the most, he says it isn't the same as smoking a cigarette,, doesn't get the same feeling,, is this just rejection or is it maybe the wrong type of equipment?

He is mentally ready to quit smoking but not quite.

Sorry for the long post but hoping someone will have some positive input,
Thanks

I tried several juices at less than 24 nic and wasnt satisfied and still desired the ciggies... then I found a juice from Heathers Heavenly Vapes by the name of Pirates Booty... 36 nic level and has a distinct cigar flavor ( close to ciggies as I could find for myself). Anyway, this one has worked for me. Vaping is NOT smoking and will never recreate the same flavor or sensation... it is a close replacement, not an exact replacement... give it time, not everyone is able to go directly to vaping from ciggies. Took me 6 moths to make the transition...

I agree with the post above. He doesn't really sound ready to quit. Nothing will work unless he is fully dedicated and taking a more active role.

Concerning your questions:

Vaping is different from smoking. It's nicotine delivery via vapor is not as efficient as smoking is, so he will have to vape more frequently to get the same satisfaction as smoking. Vaping WILL simulate the hand to mouth behavior and inhaling/exhaling behavior familiar with smoking, so that helps.

It will be extremely difficult to find a tobacco flavor which tastes like a cigarette. Encourage him to find a flavor that is fruit or desert. Any vape shops around with a flavor sample bar so he can try different flavors for free?

Tips for Novices Seeking Tobacco/Cigarette Flavors

The vape setup he is using is adequate to stop smoking if he is dedicated. However, the higher end setups (mods or advanced personal vaporizers) simulate smoking much better than a cigalike or eGo battery setup. Generally speaking, the bigger the vape setup (using bigger more powerful batteries) the better the vape experience.

I recommend an Innokin MVP (20 or 30 watt model) and an Aspire Nautilus clearomizer tank (see links below). Simple and easy to use intermediate/advanced gear.

I commend you in taking an active part in your husband's good health. Don't be too pushy. You know him better than we do.

Might be worth trying a few disposable cigalikes.
If he still smokes cigarettes, a trying a cigalike is like trying out a different brand of cigarette.
The thing is, if he happens to find a brand of cigalike that he likes enough, he can use that instead of the cigarettes; once he stays off cigarettes for a few weeks, whatever achieves that goes a long way.

Welcome ktripp!

I'm not sure, but I think reading between the lines, you are the one who wants hubby to quit smoking, and he's not ready/feeling backed into a corner/afraid to.

The primary reason I smoked was because I constantly have to be doing something with my hands. There was something "soothing" to the deep inhale and cloudy exhale after taking a drag, and if I was bored, I could always go smoke a cigarette.

I knew I needed to quit smoking, but I wasn't quite ready for it. I hated all the anti-smoking ads on TV (still do to an extent). I didn't like being told what to do - I'm an adult, by golly, and ain't nobody gonna tell me what I can or can't do - if I'm not hurting anyone else, then what business is it of anyone else what I do.....

I did grab a cigalike kit back in 2010 (which still works today!) but it wasn't very satisfying (and I had no stinkin' clue that this forum was out here.....) Made another couple half-hearted attempts, and even after watching my Uncle succumb to lung cancer two years ago, I wasn't all that much closer to becoming smoke-free. It was my stress-release (I'm getting too old to drink like I did when I was in my 20's and 30's :) )

So, I find my way to this forum at the beginning of 2014. Realize there are these things called Vape Shops, and one's right around the corner from me! Started reading on my own, asking questions, talking with others about their experiences, and finally, I got to a point that I realized I didn't need to be spending money on both vape stuff and cigarettes. Bought my last pack on Friday, March 7 and smoked the last cigarette on Monday, March 10. Haven't had a cigarette in 15 months now.

My better half doesn't smoke, but has been very supportive of all my acquisitions (and much prefers that I don't smell like an ashtray any more.) However, it has been *MY* decision to quit, and once *I* embraced that, the path has become pretty doggone easy.

It is unfortunate that you probably don't have any shops nearby where Hubby can look at stuff. I found my interest piqued when I could actually put my hands on things to feel how heavy/light/solid, etc. and most importantly, TASTE JUICES :) Once I nailed some basic flavors, I was on my way to smoke-freedom

I wish you and Hubby the best.... It's very much a mindset thing. I couldn't imagine "cold-turkey". I would have had to have been committed

I'll throw in a few suggestions here and try to keep it short, don't want a novel here.

1. The closest flavor I have found to cigarettes is unflavored. It tastes like a light cigarette.

2. Try different gear if he's willing. There have been lots of good suggestions so far, just keep in mind that mimicking smoking exactly isn't really possible. You could mimic the look and size (cigalike) but have very little vapor and terrible battery life. You could get a high powered setup with great flavor and massive amounts of vapor (advanced mod and tank or dripper).

Bottom line, nothing will work until he wants to quit. Try a variety of stuff, check out reviews and ask here before you buy stuff and hope for the best. I quit as soon as I got a satisfying set up for me. Best of luck to you and him.

As one who smoked one to 2 packs a day for 40+ years I can sympathize with your position. That being said however, he really needs to WANT to quit himself. It doesn't sound like he's quite there yet. In my situation, I finally got tired of smelling like an ashtray, all the coughing and hacking in the mornings, sometimes feeling like I was bringing up a lung that made me finally say e-frigginnuff of these damn cancer sticks. I have tried in the past using patches and gum, but they were totally unsatisfactory and couldn't get me off the habit. I am now a 100% believer that nicotine is NOT the highly addictive part of smoking cancer sticks as I was able to go from 24 to 18 all the way down to 3 mg of nicotine currently with absolutely no withdrawal symptoms that I can feel. It's all the other crap big tobacco sticks in those cancer sticks, along with all the other bizarre chemicals you get from burning that plant that are the biggest addictive cause in my opinion. It sounds like you got him good enough equipment. 18 mg may be a little light depending on what he smoked and how much. I started with a V2, and although it wasn't enough to get me to dump the cancer sticks completely, I could see the promise. Once I went to tanks and larger spinner II batteries, along with juice that I liked, I was able to simply stop smoking the cancer sticks. The key to this long missive, is you must WANT to stop. Tell him good luck from us on quitting the death sticks, and ask him we would very much like him to log on himself, and give us the story from his perspective.

I used to make the 1 hour drive to the reservation every month. I would but 10 cartons at a time. I don't miss the drive.

My biggest problem was liquid. As I transitioned from tobacco flavors (which really don't taste like burning tobacco) I found a cherry tobacco flavor (Sweet Swish from HHV) that helped tide me over until I found my true best flavor. BTW, my best "flavor" turned out to be "unflavored" which. to me, tastes the most like smoking.

My wife turned out to like tobacco flavors from HHV like Dragon's Fire and Pirate's Booty.

We were both heavy smokers and used 24mg for the first 2 months before we started to wean down.

I hate her's...she hates mine...there's no accounting for taste.
