As a newbie not sure what a 'throat hit' is...I'm trying to find a starter kit....any suggestions? I'm anxious to make my purchase.

Throat Hit, or TH for short, is the feeling of real smoke you probably will want to make the switch from analogs to e-cigs. PG is where a lot of TH comes from, and higher nicotine helps. VG helps produce the vapor, so a mix of 20%VG and 80% PG is a good place to start if the vendor gives you that option to choose your mix. As for starter kits, it can be really confusing for a newbie, there's so many models to choose from and everyone likes the model they use the best, so you'll have to find your own. I might suggest a two piece e-cig with the atomizer built into the cartridge as a good e-cig to start with. G'luck. I see you're from Canada so you'll be needing some luck, I don't know much about the ban up there, but there's a Canada forum here you might like to visit.

It's a little confusing that newer members are asking for more throat hit, in more precise terms, the "inhaled feel" of an analog and most everyone says you get great throat hit by just changing the PG level or changing the type of eliquid. I really don't understand why that is the only advice we are providing. If you could somehow measure throat hit, with the weakest being "0" and the best being "100", changing the eliquid, adding PGA (pure grain alcohol) or adjusting the PG level, would change the throat hit from around "0" to around 20 or maybe 30. The remaining 80% difference comes from a combination of more power (warmer vapor) and nicotine strength. I have used every known method to adust throat hit. The plain fact is that the most significant change in throat hit comes from warmer vapor (5 volt+ and VV PV"S) and higher nicotine strengths. If the OP only needs a small increase in TH, then these are good ideas. If they are stating they really need more throat hit to better simulate the inhaled feel of an analog, then moving to a better power source that provides both warmer vapor and much better consistency seems like a suggestion that would meet the person's needs.

I'm finding that flavoring also contributes to TH. Originally I thought it was just affected by percentage of PG, nic level, and equipment. But I have been vaping mostly DIY juice the last couple of weeks and I have found that some flavors give more TH than others. For instance I get very nice TH from blackberry or blackberry amaretto, but even using the exact same nic level and PG:VG ratio on the same PV, I get less TH from the virginia, cowboy, RY4, waffle.

I haven't read the whole thread, but I would suggest using Low Resistance atomizers if you have an eGo/Tornado or similar 650mAh+ battery/PV. It seriously was a game changer in my vaping, warmer vapor and LOTS OF IT. Makes flavors pop too, IMHO. They will burn out/pop if you dry them out extensively though, and will use more battery. Completely worth it though.

I agree that using a lower resistence atomizer is similar to increasing the power. It's not as good, IMO, as using a better battery PV, but much better than just changing eliquids or increasing PG content. I'm not sure how you can judge true throat hit if someone has not used a LR atty or a better battery PV.

higher the pg/nic the harsher the hit, i persionally cant stand the TH so i tend to use a 70vg/30pg blend

There is a difference between "harsh" and "warm" when it comes to throat hit. Better power provides warmth and true TH, IMO, whereas changing liquid ingredients produces more "harshness".

So I'm not the only one...I'm also vaping DIY juice (60/40 12mg base) and I also find it depends on the flavours (excuse my Canadian spelling)...same ego t (type b) atty, same fresh battery, same base juice...20% Loranne grape, you have to just haul on it to get any TH but do 20% Loranne blackberry, do the same haul and the TH almost hurts...makes me wonder just what chemical composition makes up these flavours (not to mention Lorannes need to colour the crap outta their flavours, why?)

I totally agree.

I have two VV's and I am very content. I bought so many E-Liquids...looking for that awesome TH. I tried E-Liquids...24, 30 and 36mg...and I wasn't satisfied, I was missing my TH. I purchased my first VV and I was amazed, I finally had my TH...and the flavors were more pronounced.

In my humble (noob) opinion:

More watts = more TH
More Nic = more TH
More PG = more TH

"Aromatic",(menthol, peppermint, spearmint, cinnamon, etc.) cut with pure grain alcohol = more TH.
(CHECK: Diy e-liquid safety when using aromatic flavors and decide for yourself if safe)

Was going through a period when every juice I tried was not "working". Whippped up a combo batch of aromatics and had a TH that I do not want to repeat. Think of the effect an overdose of very freshly grated horseradish - my OH my.

Just my 2 cents worth.

You are correct. Of the three, 80% - 90% of "good" throat hit comes from the first two. If someone has not vaped 18mg - 36mg liquid on a 5 volt or variable volt PV or at least used dual coil cartos (to a lesser degree), then they really don't understand the difference, IMO.
