The mother of one of my wife's co-workers has recently moved to a non-smoking senior community. Since she is no longer able to smoke, she's been vaping. Yay =) Unfortunately, she went and spent far too much money on 2 starter kits locally before I knew that she was vaping ($55 for ONE batt/5 cartos/1 charger...standard 808/901). She had been purchasing refill cartos for those kits at ridiculous prices ($20 for 5, standard 808/901 cartos, she was buying about 4 refill packs a week), but now that I know about it I've been cleaning and refilling her cartos for her. So that's not really an issue.

The problem is the battery life on the starter kits she has. They aren't lasting her more than a couple of hours. Sometimes, not even that long. We've been talking and I'm going to be going to visit her and help her purchase a better kit. But, I want to be sure I'm not going to throw her money away. I have an Echo, which I love, but I'm looking for something in the 510 family for her.

What I'm needing from a kit is:

1) Long lasting battery life. She's a fairly constant vaper and gets tempted into analogs far too quickly when her batts keep dying on her.

2) Easy to change carto/cartridge/tank. Due to a stroke she only has use of one hand. She's using one hand to hold the batt, while holding the carto in her teeth to twist it on. So I want to make sure it's also safe for her to replace her cartos, etc. I will continue to refill them for her, but don't want to run the risk of her winding up with a mouth full of eliquid. I'll also need them to be non-leak prone as I'll be refilling all her supplies once a week for her.

3) Affordable. Additional batteries and blank cartos/cartridge+atty/tanks etc need to be affordable, cleanable and refillable. Which is why I took the Echo out of contention. $3-$4 per carto is just too much.

4) Durable. I don't want her to drop it once and have it break on her. So, I'm thinking no glass tanks, etc.

I've never used a 510 before. Besides the Echo kit I have now and a cheapie starter grocery store kit, I've never had any other ecig (besides a disposable which i don't really count), so I'm not sure what exactly to recommend. I was thinking ago the Ego-T, but am worried about whether or not it will be easy for her to change out the tank without ending up with dry hits, etc.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated =)

Somewhere out there
Does she have KR808-1's or 2's do you know what company she bought from? Maybe just get her a few more batts to keep charged since she is probably just needing more batts to rotate. When I use my 808's I always have at least 4 batts charged to rotate thru, 2 is just not enough in my opinion. bnrk

I'm honestly not sure which ones they are, but the brand is Premier. I thought about her just getting more batts but I don't necessarily trust the charger that came with the ones she has to be "universal", since I figured we'd end up with 2 more batts plus charger that way, I thought just getting one good 510 kit might be better. Wanted to switch to 510s just because replacements are far more readily available and also more affordable.

Thank you for your reply =)

Passthrough is perfect, you don't need to screw it in to anything to charge it. You can also vape from it while it's plugged in. I just got one from Rubber City Vapor for 11.99, but the price went back up to 24.99. Electronicstix has it also for 24.95

MEGA eGo USB BATTERY (ie:pass Through)

they have also the the name brand joyetech ego-c upgrade one for a few bucks more, i'm not sure if it's any better.

1000 mAh eGo-C ''UPGRADE'' USB Passthrough Battery

It can be plugged into a computer usb hub, a wall outlet adaptor, or rechargeable power pack like this.

Standard solid prices would be the Riva kits from liberty flights. Maybe the Riva XL kit with two 900 mAh batteries:
Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Riva 510
Ideal would actually be two kits total, gets to 4 batteries, 2 chargers -- perhaps do that over a couple months?

Then cartos. Ideally boge 2 ohm in an XL size? LF is out of Boge 2 ohm 510, so maybe a backup could be the Smoketech 2 ohm 510?

If you do go the LF route, don't forget to click for the discount, "october20" (it's been valid for 20% off since 2010 :) )

The Volt line has a good following, I think it has 808 connections and they have sealed automatic batteries, you can find info and ask here on their sub-forum;
check out Smokeless Image

I didn't care for the 510 slim batteries, they didn't seem to last long between charges, but I do keep them in my back up kit...

hth! ;)

I got started with ego knockoffs with the dual coil mega cartomizers with the polyfill. I could never get the cartridges or ego tank systems to work without leaking problems. This worked well, but I had to swap out batteries and top up cartomizers all day. I got fed up and started researching here.
I bought 3 18650 batteries and a charger from Mad Vapes and an 18650 epower body from Discount Vapers. 1 battery lasts me about 24 hours. The parts are all very large so it may be possible for an elderly person to handle recharging and swapping batteries.
The epower 18650 is set up with a 510 connector. A 510 cart would work, but I found a better answer for me; Mad Vapes has ego 5 ml cartomizer tanks. The initial investment isn't cheap, but all that wears out is the internal cartomizer, which is cheap. A tank lasts me a full day.
I'm sure a senior would have trouble filling the tank, but if you are doing the filling process you could set up 7 full cartomizer tanks and all she would need to do is unscrew the old and put on the new. Again, parts are large.
Good luck and thank you for helping!

I'm using the Smokeless Image X2 batteries with clearomizers. Should be able to get a full day use and charge when sleeping out of the big batteries or use 2 in rotation. Clearomizers are simple to fill, and you can see when they're getting low. No leak, no mess, and the batteries are sealed automatics so no button to press. If she's able to change the clearomizers it may be an option. Although the cartomizers fit on it as well.

Oh... my mother who is older finds the larger battery easier to hold than the smaller models.
