To anyone stumbling on this thread, roxynoodle was right. The cotton at the tilted side gets darker. Changed my rba so the other side of cotton was down when tilted and it turned brown as well in a day.

Good to know... I saw this as well through countless build on lemo, Subtank and Orchid but never really care for it.

Makes sense... the gunk from the coil following gravity.
I find that packing the cotton a little tighter into the coil will reduce spitting (and popping) a lot... but too much and it gunks faster though, so you gotta find a happy medium.
