I tried the suggestion of cleaning, polishing and grease.....it helped but did not fix. I noticed when screwing in the button there was a bit of slack or wobble. So I laid a layer of tin foil around the body threads....pressed it in....and carefully screwed the button on. It is a tight fit and no more hot button.

That means your Tube threading or switch threading is out of spec. The Diameter of one is wrong and threads are not overlapping securely. Like a thread hole that is stripping out.

Perhaps you should start replacing batteries by splitting the sections instead to increase useable life.

Yes the threads are out of spec. The threads are loose, not snug, and the button gets hot. Saw little sparks once at night. But with a fine layer of foil it is snug tight....no heat and no sparking. And yes I never remove the button once foil is in place. I searched this sight inside out looking for a fix and did not find anything other than a cleaning suggestion. Maybe someone will correct me, but this feels a lot safer than doing nothing

I'm surprised that the action of snugging down the switch against the battery doesn't result in forcing a solid electrical connection. Seems that mechanically the switch threads should be tight against the tube threads even if there's some slop. Perhaps some No-ox-id or even Nolox would help.

Yeah, you would think. My button will wobble right up to the instant that plastic makes contact. Obviously some contact is made as the thing fired up. But I'm guessing any slack in these threads throws heat. I am using it with a Russian 91%. If I screw it too tight, it causes the top pin to rotate and jam.
I tried contact grease. It helped a little like the cleaning effort, but was short lived. This foil has completely solved it. No more hot button.
