Hello, my friends. I am 24 and have never smoked. One of my friend mentioned e-cig on FB, so I did a bit of research and found here.
Many of my friends tell me not to start smoking because nicotine can become addictive, and I am very aware of that.
However, I have ADD, which causes me very hard to focus on things I am doing, and I have been searching for solutions to change that.
Because of the horror stories I have heard about tobacco cigarettes, I think vaping if helps my ADD could be a very good idea.
I just want to hear people here if vaping is helping you concentrate or not? Also, if it does, would you think vaping is a good idea?

I didnt mention I am an adrenaline junk. I am the sort of person if nothing gets me excited each day I would try to find the adrenaline myself such as driving fast and dangerously.
sometimes if I dont get the adrenalin rush I would get very depressed feeling like I am slowly dying. if you ever ask any speed freaks such as racing drivers they would tell you the same thing.

E-Cigs are a great alternative to smoking. There are 100's of great flavors out there to help us ex-smokers replace our bad habit.
It's cheaper than cigarettes (so they tell me :) ) since cigs are over $5 a pack. But, I would not recommend someone that does not currently smoke to take this up as a habit. There are far better things to spend your money on. Just make sure you exercise and maybe look into meditation to help with the ADD (I am not a doctor, but it's supposed to help)
Good Luck

Talk to your doctor. There are many studies showing that nicotine may be actually medically beneficial in controlling such disorders as schizophrenia, ADHD, Parkinsons and Alzheimer's, just to name a few.

Look up those studies and talk to your physician. Do not try to self medicate, especially if you never smoked before and never used nicotine in any other form, like gum or patches or snus or whatever.

I recently found out that my neighbor, who is 47, has been secretly using nicorette for years. He says he does it to improve his concentration. He's never been diagnosed with ADD or ADHD, but back when we were kids, they called it being hyperactive (which is true for him).

If it's just about seeing if nicotine helps, I would think gum would be a good trial, as long as your doctor thought it was okay.

Why do people keep posting these kinds of threads? It's always the same answers:
1) No, don't get addicted to nicotine. There are usually better medications for any particular issue... see your doctor.
2) You're over 18 and are entitled to make dumb decisions. But why?

And do you really think anyone on here is stupid enough to give the anti-ecig movement ammo by saying "yes... go for it?". Most of the people here are trying to kick addictions, or at least lessen the impact of smoking by either switching to vaping or cutting down. Sheesh! Quit trying to get us to help you rationalize e-cigs and address the ADD issues with your doctor!

First of all, I use to preach when a non smoker came here and stated they wanted to try vaping.
I still say don't do it!!!
But, OP, if you're an adult, the choice is yours and our opinions really don't count for much.
See your doctor. Talk to other people who have ADD--there's got to be a forum for it somewhere on the internet.
Make an informed decision.

I will never turn away if you need help but there is a group of people here who have taken up vaping who have never smoked located somewhere around this forum. You'll probably run into less problems talking about this to them.

And face it people, there is going to be non smokers who take this up. Discourage it but don't condemn. We had our idiot moment when we started smoking so they are allowed theirs.

Hi Jason,
The most recent studies looking at the effects of nicotine on ADHD show a consistent, very small effect (~8% reduction in symptoms when used on a daily basis). An 8% reduction in symptoms is a lot less of an effect than most other treatments for ADHD, medication and/or behavioral- those have much larger effects on symptoms. So it doesn't seem to make sense to use nicotine, unless you've tried all these other more potent (and potentially much less dangerous- i.e. the behavioral treatments feature no drugs whatsoever and insurance will usually cover it) approaches.

And yeah, like everyone said, talk to your doc And report back- I'd be interested in what they would recommend.

PS- don't let anyone get you down with how they may word their reaction to you- you are doing the right thing by considering different options to treat your symptoms. You'll just have to to do a cost / risk analysis with your doc to figure out what will be best for you.

Good call speedjason,

Vaping is healthier than smoking, but we don't know by how much yet and getting started isn't cheap. You may even find yourself allergic to some of these products.
Vaping is about harm reduction for those of us that have tried other methods to quit smoking and just couldn't do it; or stay quit after using other methods.
Do talk to a health professional before jumping on the vaping bandwagon and even possibly try some other form of nicotine as suggested, before you consider this as an option.
Good Luck!!

I guess I can echo everyone else here. I was a smoker for over thirty years and was smoking three packs a day until I found this forum and started vapingl I am doing this solely to stay off of analogs. You are so lucky to never have started. Please think seriosly about this. My advice to you would be please forget it and find another outlet than nicotine. If you feel like it really would help you then by all means go see your doctor first and have a heart to heart with him He will give you the best course of action to take
