Hey Guys- This is my first post and I hope to learn alot from you guys. I never tried a e-cig nor do I smoke but I'm interested in trying it. I also want to encourage my dad to quit smoking which will be a miracle. So my theory is if I can learn how to use the e-cig and make my own e-juice, I can help my dad figure out a plan.

Hi Flex. A lot of people frown on the idea of non-smokers starting to vape. With good reason: compared to smoking they are a far healthier alternative. Compared to not smoking, who can say? If you can find a good vaping store near you, and they let you taste juice samples, why not take your Dad along and have him try it there?

I'm going to jump on here before you get a bunch of well you don't smoke so don't start vaping people post. As far as never having tried them before getting a cheap ego set up to start out with so that if it's not for you or your dad then your not out much. As for the DIY your quite a ways off from even thinking of that. Seeing what kind of juice you like, like flavors and pg /vg ratio also nic lvl. I just don't wanna see someone sink hundreds on a set up DIY stuff then not like it and or your dad would rather still smoke.

Do what I did with my mother, give him a simple eGo kit with some basic juice, show him how to use it & turn loose. Father's Day IS coming up ;)

This is interesting because just yesterday I had someone asking me about my Lavatube (a guy from the local hot dog place I frequent) and he told me that he thought about getting one. I told him that I love these so much better than cigarettes and if he switched he would be amazed. That is when he said "Oh I don't smoke" I honestly didn't know how to respond to that. I did say, "Well if you decide you want to try it make sure you buy the liquid that has no nicotine in it."

Ever since then I have been trying to decide how to deal with those cases. I love vaping and have been converting smokers over to vaping left and right. I am just not sure if I should encourage those who don't smoke to do it LOL. In the end I decided The better I could educate people about it in general the better off they would be, making sure that non-somkers don't get hooked on nicotine and such.

I know a dude that started vaping 0 nic for the fun and taste of it... Hes enjoying making vape rings... But its kinda a wierd habbit to get i must say (except for the social part of it thats really nice)... BUT i personally havnt smoked for 2 months and aint missing the cigs thanks to these electronic little babies.. So grab ya old man and get him vaping... Find a flavor he will really enjoy, i started with eucalyptus, kinda fresh kinda hot in the throat but overall a really cool and refreshing vape so i can really recommend that... Its kinda hard to find tho and with time it will eat up a clearomizer... But i'd say the most important thing for a succesfull quitting is a good flavor, and then tell him how much money he can then use on the BBQ insted of cigarettes

im not going to tell you what to do, if you are over 18 and want to vape go ahead

i would warn you though against using nicotine, once you start it can be difficult to stop...though nic isnt really all that harmless why bother with an addiction if you dont have one?

that said, if you want one try My Vapor Store, they have a wide array of options...everything from simple to advanced

A couple of days ago while at my nearby vape shop I met a man in his 60's who didn't smoke, but is now vaping. I certainly am not going to try to dissuade anyone from vaping if they're over 18! I figure that if they're old enough to buy cigarettes and they choose to vape instead I will pat them in the back and congratulate them for making the healthier choice.

OP, if you have a vape shop nearby, I would suggest you and your dad make a visit. It's really fun and chances are they'll let you test some of their eliquids.

Good luck and welcome to our community!

    How old are you?

I can't recommend a non smoker to start vaping, especially ANY minor.

Nicotine is addictive, we vape because we are ex smokers trying to reduce the harm to our bodies and general health. Its not fun or cool.

    Its safer then cigarettes.

    Hi guy!

A bit of a toughie to answer. :) I've read all the other responses so far and for the most part I agree with them.

If I could go back in time and convince myself to not pick up the first cigarette I would. But I can't but I have managed to get off of them by using e-cigs.

Now having said that, I really enjoy the tastes that the eliquid offers. I hardly touch tobacco flavors anymore.

Making your own eliquid isn't that difficult. There are precautions that you should take but as long as you follow those precautions (always) you'll be fine. Do a lot of research on DIY before you attempt it though. Once you get by your 5th post, and the server resets, you can post in the DIY section.

As for Nicotine, if you don't need it you'd probably be smart to vape 0 nic liquid. Why let something put a hook into you? But if you need it to replace something else (looking at Dusty's edit note there) then maybe.

As for your Dad, Yes take him to a local e-cig store. Many places offer free tastes of their liquid.

If you two do decide to jump in, start small. The hobby can get expensive fast if you let it. :) (oh yeah, I need to apologize to my bank account again :))

Welcome to ECF and we'll be here should you need us. :)

I leaning towards getting a eVic and contacted a vendor on ECF to recommend the tools/materials needed to make the e-juice. Let me check if I can post in the DYI section now.

    Happy Memorial's Weekend to everyone!

I hope you are successful in getting your dad off the smokes. But I agree with several previous posts that you should maybe think twice before starting up a habit. Even with 0mg liquid you are still introducing other compounds(PG, VG, flavoring) into your body. The general consensus is that these ingredients are much safer as compared to tobacco smoke, (which certainly benefits smokers who switch to vaping), but pending further studies we don't yet know the full effects of long-term use.

Maybe, if possible, you could guide, encourage, and educate your dad through the initial stages of vaping without actually indulging yourself. I know that could be difficult but, after smoking for many years, I can't help but suggest you seriously consider this before making a decision.

For ex-smokers I think vaping is a viable alternative. But non-smokers don't need that alternative.
