Hey guys! So I never liked cigarettes. I never liked the smell, etc. etc.. I managed to quit once upon a time but picked them back up 7 months later. Now my wife and I both want to throw them away and I have heard great things about e-cigs.. more specifically "Blu". I have used many forums in the past geared toward specific topics in which I was concerned (automotive repair, car audio, etc. etc.) and get great results from veterans in the general area so I figured why not try the same with electronic cigarettes??

I have a friend name Shan who makes mods but to be honest I dont understand much when she attempts to explain the process to me. After doing a small amount of research it appears that these things can get pretty complicated with multiple battery choices etc. so I would prefer to just keep it simple for now.

What would you recommend someone start vaping with if they some 1-2packs/daily. Prefer quality, and needs to be a pipe (or whatever the term is.. look like a cigarette). I read that alot of people like the eGo for starters, is there a specific one? Is there a better brand that would be recommended? Im sorry for the book I have written here and I appreciate any advice!!

Let me first welcome you to ECF!!! You have found a wealth of knowledge about e-cigarettes commonly referred to as pvs or personal vaporizers though some do cringe at that term also. If you must have a cig-a-like style I would steer you to the very popular Volt.

Though size here is really directly related to battery life. As a former PAD smoker ,I found even a 650 mAh(milliamp hour) battery to only last at most 4-5 hours of heavy use before needing to be recharged. Depending on your level of nic fits (I absolutely got irritated and nervous when I had less than 5 cigarettes in my pack), you may be able to deal with the smaller cig sized batteries.

There is a bit of a learning curve with this ,but we all started where you are. Hang out , ask questions and read alot. I would NOT recommend Blu. The Volt is much more highly thought of though there are those that have used and like Blu.

For simplicity, I personally would recommend any ego battery or KGO of at least 900 mAh.You each will need two to startso you have one to use while the other is charging. There are a ton of brands.I'm sure others will be along to recommend their favorites.

Finding a good ejuice that will make you stick to it is the biggest challenge. Know that NO e-liquid "tastes like a cigarette".

Also, having a friend that "vapes"(thats what we call "smoking" e liquid) puts you ahead of the game. Perhaps you could ask your friend to slooowwww down . In our haste to share our excitement over how great we think ecigs are ,some can give too much info too fast. The benefit of using a mod is ,instead of recharging the whole unit, just replace dead battery with a freshly charged one and keep vaping.

So,in short ,if you must have a "cig-a-like",consider the Volt. I believe its through Smokeless Image. Otherwise look at the kgo .Hoosier ecig supply is one good vendor for that . Someone else can recommend an eGo supplier as I'm not up on those.Get some ejuice probably in both 24 milligram per milliliter nicotine strength(24mg/ml) and 18 mg/ml to start. Also a Vivi Nova mini would be good as you could fill and vape without alot of hassle.

Here is one kit worth considering- 510 Vision eGo Tank Kit
Just add e liquid and start reading to learn how to keep going. Very helpful people here.

Here is a nice kgo kit - KGO kit1100mAh by SLB
Again add ejuice to your order and get to quitting.

You may be able to ala carte a kit together a little cheaper with diligence but if you just want to get started now with equipment that is gonna work for you, I feel the above are good suggestions for starters. Order you liquids whenever possible in "sample sized" bundles and when you find ones you really like order larger sizes.

Finally the Volt - Smokeless Image | The Best Electronic Cigarette >you will need more liquid and learn how to refill the cartomizers(the part you screw onto the battery that holds the liquid. Notice the 78mm battery is 320 mAh- Think roughly an hour use per 100 mAh.

If I sound like I'm trying to steer you away from the Volt or other cig-a-likes to start with...I probably am. I think it would be nice in addition to the others I linked to but if you smoke alot or cannot be near a place to constantly charge your batteries you may become frustrated and just say to hell with it its easier to smoke.

You guys can do this . There are many here that have already or are in the process of doing so. Think about what is really important to you and I wish you the best of luck in your goal to get off tobacco. Any of the above devices(including the Volt) could help you.

Please, if you need more info...DO NOT HESITATE TO ASK!!!! and if its explained and it is still confusing....SAY SO. We all were new to this at one time . I thought cigarettes would always have a hold of me . Read the signature. That could be you starting now.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend a tank to newbies.
Cartomizers would be easiest as they have relatively nothing to repair, Etc.

I was thinking an Ego kit ,and try and get a custom kit with Kanger cartos . There are some suppliers who will make a custom Ego kit and start you off with cartos instead of tanks. If you are a heavy smoker maybe the larger capacity Ego twist batteries would be good,as you can set the voltage a little higher and get a real big amount of vape. I use both my older 650 ego batts, and my Ego twist.I get a satisfying amount of throat hit and vape from the 650 batts, but do slightly prefer my Ego twist set to 3.8. I find the Kanger cartos very easy and simple to use,and simulate the draw of a tobacco ciggie very closely. Some people prefer to start with a tobacco flavoured juice, but pretty soon you will discover the wonderful world of hundreds of delicious flavors to choose from, believe me it is never gets old discovering a new flavour you love! ...A supplier in Canada with great products and custom Ego kits is Nicfitnation.Best of luck!

Actually, the "tanks" in the kits I linked to are actually statdusts which are easier IMO for a beginner to just fill and vape as opposed to having to regularly top off cartomizers while also not being disposable, the op can save them and later learn to rebuild them should they choose to.

yeah a stardust is basically a large capacity fiberless cartomizer so I'd have to guess a n00b would figure them out easily enough. Cartomizer tanks are what I use and I have to say, a noob should be able to figure those out quite quickly too. Its not as if they come disassembled so just fill the carto, pull the top of the carto into the tank a bit, fill the tank, pop the carto head back out the top of the tank, let sit for 2 min, then vape away. Cartomizer tanks are easy as pie! Buy a 3-4 extra pre-punched cartos and your good to go for a month or two easy.

Yeah but you have to worry about leakage, Breakage, Non-Vapeage, Etcetera-age.

Titanium, Just to clarify,I wasn't trying to be sarcastic when I put quotes around the word "tank" in my post. I just didn't realize if you saw that the tank in the kit was stardust. I do not feel my opinion is any more valid than anyone else's including your own . Just wanted to throw that out in public :)

To the original poster, very little in vape land isn't fiddly in some way. The least so IMO are prefilled cartomizers but convenience comes at much higher cost and is limited by flavor choices .

A month or so into vaping I have found myself really happy with Volt X2s and either nano clearomizers or standard cartos. I have some cig shaped batteries I use too when I am out and about since they pocket well.

One thing I have learned from my research here is that everyone is different and there really is no wrong way to go about it. Also, as with many here including myself you will probably go through several iterations of gear before you settle on something that suits you.

If Shan was a personal friend, I'd offer to let her school me, as a noob. I'd trust her insight. I'd buy her wares. She's a great asset to our community!

As far as a recommendation on the "best" e-cig set-up to start with?? As a smoker, let's say you smoke Camel unfiltered, and I hand you a Salem 120 ultra light and say it's the best. It's debatable, right? Be prepared to spend a little more than you would on smoking to get set-up. Be prepared to be disappointed with some decisions. Most importantly, be prepared to entertain the idea that you're not smoking an e-cig, so it doesn't neccessarily need to look like a cigarette. Battery capacity is relative to battery size. The more capacity you require, the larger the package. Dem'z da r00lz of physics.

I wish you good results with your pursuit of a healthier alternative.

So its my understanding then that the Kgo with 1100mah batteries will last realistically 3-4hours? Also are e-liquids and batteries interchangeable between pvs's or does the supplies have to come from V2? Also if it doesnt break any forum rules, where would I get these liquids? Are all ecigs that take liquid reusable? Thanks!

Hi and welcome to ECF.

After doing a small amount of research it appears that these things can get pretty complicated with multiple battery choices etc. so I would prefer to just keep it simple for now.
1 month after starting to vape you will be definitely of a different mindset...esp if you're a tinker re: auto repairs, electronics, etc.
JoyTech eGo fires @ 3.3 volts, SmokTech eGo fires @ 3.7 volts and the Kgo fires @ 3.7 volts- come in 650, 900 or 1100 mah depending on the manufacturer- most popular 510 threading/ connection and are manual. I own a Kgo and I LOVE it. Have used the JoyTech eGo and prefer the Kgo because of the higher voltage.
Note @ 5:36 mins Grimm says he notes a better vape from the Kgo- surprised he doesn't realize the eGo is a lower voltage PV...

And lastly the Volt. The best cig sized PV from a company that prolly has the best customer service in the industry- the only problem is low battery life and they are 808 threading meaning all accessories must be 808 unless you buy the Manual Volts and can then buy an 808 to 510 adapter.

As for delivery devices ( holds and vaporizes juice) the Mini Vivi Nova holds 2 ml of juice and is far superior in quality to the Stardust. I own both. It' a plastic or metal tank with a wick and element. Contains NO stuffing. The rebuildable Vivi Novas come with heads (coil+ wick) that can be cheaply and easily replaced. When the head burns out simply unscrew the old head out and screw in new head- takes 10 secs. My Vivi Nova heads are lasting about 4 weeks BUT I wash the heads every few days. I've found the Vivi Nova to give the best draw.

ok so I have decided to go with the Kgo--> KGO kit1100mAh by SLB

Now I found a thread here about juice suppliers so I believe I have that covered.. Next questions that I havent really been able to find a definite yes or no to is about the clearomizers and cartomizers. Basically the same thing?? Ones just clear right? Also, will any clear/cartomizer that is 510 worth with the Kgo? The Kgo is 1.5ohms stable, but Im guessing it is capable of higher resistance, correct? Will the Kgo be able to run a dual coil without getting terribly hot? Im thinking I would like to go with a clearomizer with as much vape as possible therefore I would have to find a high resistance correct?
