Ultimately, I am hoping that my case is just an isolated incident and not part wider offensive in the "war on vaping."
Unfortunately, it IS part of a wider offensive.
And those that don't realize that or don't care are part of the problem.

Thank you for posting this thread.
We will see many more like this as time goes on.

But what always bothers me more is the threads about denying employment to nicotine users.
Such prohibitions are probably passed by a bunch of people drinking their Starbucks mocha fraappuccinos.

...while recuperating from their hangovers, no doubt.

Things are different here in Portugal. No tenant would forbid you to smoke in your own home ("His" house, "his" property, but "your" home, since you are the one paying the rent to live there, and thus have the right to make yourself at "home", within the law).

And that happens because the tenant, not the landlord, can be forced to pay for those replacements himself. Many times, it does not happen, on a MUTUAL agreement between them, if the situation is not all that bad. Otherwise, the tenant is required to pay for those repairs himself before he leaves, because he is supposed to leave the house just as it was before. So, many smokers have the privilege to smoke in "their" home sweet homes, but knowing that someday they *might* have to spend some money to cover the costs of said privilege.

So, in my country, the very notion of a landlord forbidding tenants from smoking in "their own" homes, is already strange. Forbidding vaping?? Simply ridiculous. Just how would they inforce that? Where is the tell-tale smell? The darkening of the painting on the walls? The holes in the carpet? All those lasting, visible reasons that will keep non-smokers at bay?

Above all, where is the real EXCUSE for that, besides the sick need of sticking their noses in other people's PRIVATE lives ?? Do those tenants really find it so difficult to rent a house to non-smokers, after NON-smoking VAPERS have lived there ?? :(

I can't imagine that there would be any difficulty renting a home out to non-vapers after vapers have lived there. There would, however, be a difficulty renting a smoking home to non-smokers should the smoking tenants move out and the carpet not at least be professionally cleaned and the walls scrubbed and painted.

I would have loved to have had the option myself to paint/clean carpets and smoke in a rental property. However, in the US it is not typical for renters to be allowed to do those things. Instead, they want to keep your security deposit (usually=to at least a month's rent, sometimes two), and many landlords will gladly find any excuse to do that anyway.

And I love my tenants and give them lots of leeway as far as the house, including letting them paint however they want and do whatever they want to the backyard including permanent structures. I'm sure that they smoke inside occasionally, and I don't care…but for the most part I have made sure to tell them that the place is "non-smoking" because they are young and they are partiers, and if I let it be OK to smoke inside all the time it would lead to trashed walls, trashed carpets, etc. Possibly also drunk people falling asleep with lit cigarettes and burning my house down. And they're also broke students, so much as they might WANT to paint/clean carpets/fix damage in the event that they move out…it isn't very likely that they'd be able to.

vape.... who cares...

I vape anywhere I want. I recently flew from Japan to Vancouver and back again... And my mod came out so often it was ridiculous.

Granted i did take more trips to the washroom, (But only because I couldnt see where i was dripping) I`ve vaped in my seat. When I am in a place that doesnt allow it or I am not sure, I stealth vape. Same nicotine....
no vapor...

Would I vape if it meant eviction if caught?

Abso___BEEPing___lutly.
Better believe it. I vape on the airplane. Airplanes have already said vaping is not allowed, at least on the ones I fly, I hazard a guess at what the penalty would be if I was blowing giant clouds.

But I vape on a 0.2 build, and i can still not blow a cloud, taking regular size hits. its all about the cloud. Actually, on 1 specific airline, The flight attendants all saw me Vaping (due to me sittign in the front seat) . The guy i was talking to beside me asked if I was allowed to, Not because he cared, but because he was curious. They just shrugged, because i didnt blow a single cloud.

if it doesnt upset people it is okay.

Would i still vape! Yep! I would only blow clouds when no one could see it though.
