Hi everyone,

I always been a light smoker (5 cigarettes a day) but I made the switch to the e-cig last saturday.

The vendor advised me to go with 6mg because i was not smoking that much. After 2 days of it (without any symptoms), I had the feeling that it was not strong enough so I went to buy a 12 mg. Huge difference and I liked it.

After 1 day of 12 mg, I started having these huge migraines as soon as I was vaping. After a few research I decided to go back to 6 mg because the 12 mg might have been too much nicotine for me.

After switching to the 6 mg, my headaches kept coming back everytime I vaped and that was not the case at the beginning.

It would really dissapointe me to have to go back to my cigarettes, but I can't bare these migraines!

Any ideas???

You might try lowering the nic to 3mg - if your juice isn't available in 3mg, buy some 6 and 0 and mix them.

You may also be one of the rare people who are allergic to PG or VG. Even with allergies though, most of them are able to take it in small amounts. If you're using high PG, try a high VG instead, or vice versa. Remember that high VG is a lot thicker though, and some devices won't handle it well unless you dilute it with a little distilled water.

Or maybe mix the 6 and 12. That would result in more than 6, less than 12. IE, a 50/50 mix of the two would result in a 9mg. nic level. That's assuming that both of the two liquids have the same PG/VG ratio's. A helpful online calculator that I was pointed to is E-Liquid Recipe Name There are many more online calcs, and some that are executable programs that you can put on your computer.

It's strange that you didn't have any symptoms before switching to 12, and now you still have them after dropping back down to 6.

Does the vapor taste ok? May I ask what set up you are using (battery and tank type)? Did they have any advice at the vape shop?

Please don't go back to cigarettes!! I'm sure someone on ECF can help you figure this out.

How much liquid are you vaping and/or how many puffs at a time?

Maybe you can find a better balance that works for you. Less puffs in one 'go' but more often? I got headaches (not exactly Migraine, as I stopped getting them in my 20s, thankfully) after vaping, and found a combination of lowering the nicotine over a few months and taking less puffs seemed to help. Do you have a recent or high-power rig?

I agree entirely with what Katt suggested. It could also be a side effect of a different health issue or withdrawal from all the bad things packed into the cigs you don't smoke now.

The most common symptom of nicotine "overdose" (for lack of a better term) is the headache. You might have to vape more with the lower level nicotine juice but usually the transition only lasts a week (In my Experience).

What I did when I lowered my nic and when I quit smoking was to keep one cheap tank with a higher nic in it for those times I just couldn't scratch the itch. The thing is you can't just hit the higher nic like you do the lower. Draw on it once, then go back to the lower, the craving should subside quickly.

    Good luck in your journey.

That's a good advice. I might buy another e-cig and keep the 3mg in it and if my craving is too strong, take 1 draw of the 6 mg to satisfy my itch...

    Thanks!

Well, I vape about 1 mg a day (or a little less) and I can take about 10 puffs in 2-3 minutes?

That sounds good to me.. if you had less puffs would you want to puff again or feel like you hadn't matched a whole cigarette for enjoyment or satisfaction?
Did your cigarettes have a nicotine level printed on the side of the packet?

Unfortunately, I don't know the nicotine level in my cigarettes. If I have less puffs, I don't feel satisfied and I just need to puff again soon after...

Pg gives me bad headaches. Like you, it didn't hit me immediately. It took a while, and many different nic strengths, to figure out the problem. Try a higher blend(70vg/30) to start with, and see if it helps.

Well, I'm going to the store at lunch time and try to change liquid with less PG in it. But I heard that the more VG you have the thicker the liquid is. I don't know if I will have to buy a different e-cig. I hope not, because if it's not the case (PG sensitivity), I will have spend money for nothing. I red somewhere in this forum that someone was adding distilled water to the liquid to make it less thicker. Is it good?

Yes, it is good. From a few drops to 10% (if it is pure VG). Higher than that (up to 15%) and you can have popping sounds and thinner juice. But in most cases juices advertised as "highest" or "pure" VG are containing some water already.
