Greenskeeper87, 100% VG is neither good nor bad. PG and VG are the two vehicles in which the nicotine and flavorings are conveyed to the wick so the heated wire coil can vaporize it. JC has a 100% VG line because some people are sensitive to or allergic to PG. And many people like a blend of the two: for most flavors, I prefer a blend of 70% PG / 30% VG, for instance.

Vivis (Novas or Minis) really can't handle 100% VG e-liquid, especially if the 1.8 ohm head is used. They simply can't wick that thick e-liquid well enough. What you've described is totally fried wicks in that 1.8 ohm head. That head is now destroyed, unless you have the fine motor control and hand-eye coordination to rebuild it. (Don't pitch it: someone who can rebuild it may want to swap it for something he/she has that you need.) It's dimly possible a 2.8 ohm head could handle 100% VG, but I wouldn't risk a head on it.

Unless you know for certain you're allergic to PG, I strongly suggest you get e-liquids that are at least 70% PG. Vivis seem to be happy with such e-liquids.

Just looked at the Johnson Creek website and their juices are all 100% VG -- this is a good thing right?

Johnson Creek does not use 100% VG in all their juices, only in their "Red Oak" line. Normal Johnson Creek juice (with the light/white colored label) uses PG. As to which ingredient is a "good thing" is preferential, but most vapers I see prefer a 60/40 or 70/30 PG/VG ratio.

I have been vaping without inhaling in order to keep smoking even though it is harsh. The flavor is moderate but even though I am not inhaling the vapor is leaving a strong, unpleasant tingle on the back of my tongue / roof of my mouth (like an uncomfortable tingle leaving 3.5/10 discomfort for ~3-5 minutes) *even though I am not inhaling*

Is this symptomatic of something? Is this how all 18mg Nic vapors are?(Keeping in mind that the Blu I was smoking was using 18mg Nic and didnt leave any sort of tingle even though I was getting Nic)

I hadn't until this point vape'd without inhaling and I am finding it irritates regardless.

Thoughts?

I think you need to try out a lot of different flavor, PG/VG ratio's, and nicotine strengths. That's the only way for you to know for sure what you like and what works for you. There is a thread on this forum with links to a lot of different online e-juice vendors that sell sample packs, you should check that out.

awesome thanks all - I have the JC sample pack coming and a bottle of 100% VG 1.1mg Juice also on the way. I am also going to buy some 2.4 ohms heads and hopefully have better results after trying some different configurations.

I also think the Vivi Nova I got was a knockoff, the heads don't look like any of the "vision" brand heads-- if I still dont have good results i'm going to buy a real vision vivi nova mini off the internet and hope for the best.

Determined to get something I love!

I'm using a Vision Stardust, which has been pretty reliable after about a month of use, cleaning and alternating three heads. Also, I have a Kanger t3 coming in the mail. It seems to have generally positive reviews from different sources, and I've been wanting to try a bottom-coil. Check them out, you might like them.

UPDATE!!!!!!

Okay so after trying various blends of PG juice I finally received my 100% VG Solstice flavored juice from Johnson creek and WHAT A DIFFERENCE.

I can vape HUGE hits with TONS of vapor in my Vivi nova without ANY PROBLEMS at all. The liquid seems no more thick than the other juices that I have tried and the flavor is TREMENDOUS. Literally when I opened the UPS envelope I could SMELL the sweet liquid through all the packaging.

Never going to use PG liquid EVER again this juice is fantastic and has solved all of my vaping issues.

I was going to try 2.4 ohm heads but with this juice hitting as well as it does with 1.8 I don't see a reason to change.

Literally a 200% improvement. I can even blow out the first hit through my nose (tons of vapor) while simultaneously ripping another big hit. 10/10!!!

Thanks for all the feedback!

50/50 pg/vg seemed to do it for me personally, throat hit isn't a HUGE thing with me though. I like good flavor and lots of vape and of course nicotine!

So something like 30/50 pg/vg ration worked for me outside of 50/50 pg/vg
Some juices tend to hit harsher than other depending on the flavor.
I have this coffee and creme from mountain oak and it just hits really really harsh to me, but everyone seems to love it
It's all about finding that right fit for you, just like when you smoked cigarettes and you were searching for that right brand when you first started.

Sounds to me like you are using Propylene Glycol (pg). That stuff is way too coarse on the throat. You need to get a fundemental Vegetable Glycerine based liquid and thin it with about 15%-20% pg flavoured e liquid of your choice and a few drops of menthol wouldn't go a miss either, just a few mind !.. I've heard that concentrated flavouring can damage tanks although i don't know how much of a problem that is for most people. I just use flavoured e liquid for flavour.

Throat hit checklist:

You are not using a VV so can't turn the voltage down.

You already said you are not sure on the PG/VG ratio, try getting some known juice and go with higher VG.

Hold the smoke longer in your mouth, you absorb more nic through your mouth than your lungs with a vape anyway, it will lower the throat burn and give you more nic absorption.

Make sure the wick on the ViVi is saturated well so you are getting a clean hit, burning wick tastes really bad and creates a much worse throat hit. Biggest reason I don't like the ViVi's personally.

Maybe try a Carto tank (with a LR carto since you are not using a VV)

Lower nic juice also gives less of a throat hit.

Just saw you already found one of the solutions I listed above (High VG juice) glad the problem is solved, happy vaping.
