I just registered for this most informative forum. I am in my middle 50's and have (and still) smoking since I was 16 yrs. I smoke 100 lights; about a pack a day. I have tried to quit several, several times. The longest I have ever been able to go is two weeks. I have tried the patch, Cantrix (expensive), guilt, shame, willpower, etc... nothing is working. I am seriously at the end of my rope. I WANT TO QUIT! I am feeling almost emotionaly desperate.... don't worry... I'm cool... :)

So... I was recently told by a store clerk (CVS, filling a Dr. script for a inhaler. Having trouble breathing.) about the e-cig. I have been all over the Net since looking up information (how I found you guys) and have decided to try it. I ordered yesterday a starter kit from cignot.com.; the Joye 510. I hope to God this will work for me. I am very excited that it might. I will keep you guys informed to my progress.

Hello, Fred. Welcome.

You sound like so many of us. I too tried everything, and it was a miserable failure every time until e-cigarettes.

But about 40% of people here quit within the first day or two of getting their e-cig. Most of the rest within a few weeks. Some take longer, but most get there eventually.

I was one of those lucky 40%. You might be too. But if not... don't guilt yourself. Just let it happen. Pick up your 510 when you have a craving before your cigarettes. But if you really must have a cig... have it. You will quickly realize how much better your 510 tastes and feels, and eventually find yourself vaping more and more.

Have hope.

Exactly what MistressNomad said.

When I first started vaping, I still had a few cigarettes, but they started tasting worse and worse, you couldn't get me near a regular cig anymore.

I've a friend at work in her 60's who I got turned on to e-cigs and now she's happily vaping away on a Vapor King and has only had 2 cigarettes in 3 days! There's some hope for you man!

Thank you guys! What a nice forum; rare in the no-see-um Net. I know I will find great support and informantion here as a new member.

Great advice Mistress! Thank you! Just what I needed to hear. I'll start out nice and calm and see what happens; even though I am probably having unrealistic expectations(?) having failed so many times before. As I stated above I am very excited over this new method. I am like other posters here when they say they love to smoke but needed to quit analogs. I am the same. I LOVE to smoke! Being a triple Aries and all (fire sign. LOL). But analogs are slowing killing me. So I do so hope this will be the answer.

Welcome up Fred. As far as quitting cigs....focus on the vaping. Give yourself permission to have a cig as needed. Any cigs that get directly replaced by vape is just a plus on the right-hand column. If you relax and take to the vape like so many do, you may very well end up no so much quitting cigs specifically. Instead you may just wake up one day to find that vaping doesn't leave room for the cigs. That's kinda what happened to me.

I have always enjoyed smoking, just hated be a smoker. I started vaping with fairly low expectations of truly quitting. But I did realistically envision cutting 1.5 packs per day down to a couple cigs in the morning and a couple in the evening...with the goal being to vape all in between.

As of now me choosing a cigarette over a vape would be analagous to passing up a vintage Cuban cigar for a Grape Swisher Sweet. It all just sort of happened while i wasn't looking.

You're in good hands here

Welcome to the ECF! Triple Aries! I love it! I'm also an Aries as well as a Fire Horse in Chinese Astrology, both signs have the same exact qualities so it's multiplied a thousand times with me. LOL

Like others have said, do what's best for you when you get your kit. If you find you still need an analog or two or three to help you get through the transition, it's perfectly fine and nothing to get down on yourself about. My husband and I had to do that for awhile due to receiving faulty batteries and we were down to one battery each, which doesn't work. LOL Now that we both have two batteries, he's still on analogs but not nearly as many as he was smoking, however, I've been analog free for about 3 and a half days and I smoked more years than he did! I will confer with the others who have said that the more you vape, the nastier analogs will taste, which is one of my reasons for not even trying one at this point. Just remember, it'll be trial and error until you figure out what works for you, so try not to get too frustrated. There's a wealth of info on this site as well as on youtube!

My last bit of advice is.... DRINK LOTS OF WATER WHILE VAPING!!!! Seriously, vaping will dehydrate you quickly, so up your intake of fluids, especially water!

Thanks Firehorse! Us fire signs need to illuminate together! LOL! The water hydration is great advice! I didn't know that vaping dehydrates?

I just ordered a eGo 650 mh batt to go with my new 510 (currently in route). I also ordered the quick USB charger and some assorted juice flavors to try. I been ordering and asking questions from the gals (Vicki mostly) at cignot.com and they have been WONDERFUL!!! Great customer service and advice to confusing (to me anyway) questions and requests. Rapid email responses! They've got my biz-wax from now on! Good prices and free ship! A no-brainer.

Congrats on finding ECF, the best place to find answers to all your e-cig questions. The people on this forum are the absolute BEST! So feel free to ask away, we're all here for the same reasons.

It's hard to plunk down the money on a gadget like this, sight unseen, but it really is everything it's cracked up to be. Even after reading a bit on the forum and ordering my first PV, I still didn't really think it would work because I've tried to quit so many times and nothing ever worked for me. But this e-cig thing really works! I'm still amazed that it actually worked for me, I'd resigned myself to being one of those people who smokes through a hole in their throat - but thanks to e-cigs and the ECF folks I guess that's never going to happen.

Welcome to ECF! You've chosen (in my opinion) the best two e-cigs! Glad the girls at Cignot took care of you. Hold onto your horses, you're going to be soooo surprised at how wonderful this is. I smoked for 40+ years and have been cig free for 3 months now.....and no end in sight. The more you vape, the nastier cigs will taste. Just get into the e-cigs and one day you'll realize you "forgot" to smoke for a whole day. That's how it happened for me...

To me, these are nothing short of a miracle. I wasn't really even trying to quit: I just couldn't stand all the money I was spending on cigs and thought I'd "supplement" my habit. Ha. Now I spend even more money on this new habit (hobby) and don't care one bit. I feel so good. I can breathe again and I can smell my shampoo, and my little grandson gives me kisses galore. And now I smell smokers and think OMG I used to smell like that! Good luck. You're going to be surprised......pleasantly surprised. These things are simply unreal. They actually DO live up to all the hype. That's all I can say....

Hi Fred, Welcome to the forum! I am a California transplant, also in my mid 50's and a lifetime smoker. I also tried EVERYTHING to quit. When I ordered my first e-cigarette I only did it because I always tried anything new, patches, gum, inhalers etc. etc. I really thought that the e-cigarette would be just one more failed attempt. Oh my Fred, was I ever surprised. The inventors of this wonderful devise HAD to be smokers themselves, because it satisfies in a way that none of the other nicotiene replacement products did. There is a learning curve, you will get frustrated at times, but stick with it, it is so worth it.

I'm really glad to hear that the person at the pharmacy suggested it. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

You guys are great!!! I am so glad to have found this forum. I know one of the components to smoking cessation is group support! And you guys DELIVER!!! Thank you! I will be here a lot for your support and offer any that I can to others also. I am waiting (inpatiently) for the delivery of my first e-cig. I am still sucking on my analogs and hating them and myself for using them. From all I have been reading so far here has given me great hope for life success!

Count yourself unusually wise, Fred, in that you went right for a 510 kit. Many of us--myself included--had to recover from the inital error of buying an obscenely overpriced, underperforming piece of s#!t from a free trial! offer or mall kiosk. Only then--wiser but $150 or so poorer--we find this forum. And get a real PV kit for $35.

Be forewarned that vaping will get into your blood--figuratively, I mean--and newfound wisdom will abandon you, which will be expensive. All of our banners that proclaim how much money we've saved by quitting analogs lie, lie lie...If you don't believe me, check out this thread: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...0656-bump-evertime-you-buy-something-new.html

Oh boy! I feel ya! I have already put a couple of cignot.com kids through Jr. College! LOL. One of the attractions, for me anyway, of this system is that it has all the hallmarks of a fun addiction... Meaning... ALL THE STUFF YOU CAN BUY!!!... Now knowing that and my uh-hum unfortunate tendency to gravitate to such behavior I do have to be careful; as us all. I am hopeful from what I have been reading here and elsewhere that it could reduce the cost of using analogs. (Man! Am I gettin' the lingo or what!?)
