Here's just some basic info, im sure someone on here would know where to get more detailed information, but I figured i would just bring this to the attention of the forum.

Does the public really need more scare tactics? I question how effective another round of this approach will be ... smoking is very VERY bad for you ... well no Sh-- Sherlock ... is there anyone who doesn't know that by now? Someone should give their collective heads a shake and pour that advertising budget into a comprehensive study of the effectiveness and safety of ecigs as a smoking cessation device, the one the FDA and Health Canada and other Govts have been demanding but have no desire to fund themselves.
Smokers looking to quit need positive effective treatments. They don't need to be constantly reminded how they are killing themselves ... I'm sure they are depressed enough about that already.

I remember that they showed this type of scare imagery when I was in grade middle school/high school (don't remember what grade it was). They were trying to program the next generation (literately... they had pics... tried subliminal programming... flashing nasty smoking pics with instructions "stare at the screen". Seriously!). Didn't work then either.

The news reports where setup to prep for this the other day when the most recent survey showed that about 25% of high-schoolers used tobacco regularly (I"m not going to go look at the exact figures... so cut me some slack here and don't correct it unless it's way off). Now this. Who knows, if even 1% of kids avoid smoking because of this...I guess I don't mind it.... but I'm not sure it is very effective.

Increased taxes tho....It's really hard on the elderly and poor. Enough robberies and black market now. Bad move.

I have a foot on each side of this thread's 'intelligent exercise'.

First of all, even with all the past 'programs', all too many folk were and are still smoking. Hell, I saw most of the 'stop smoking efforts', plus some most folk haven't even seen. And...? I still smoked!!! If the new PSAs are effective at all, then great!

C'on, most of us here know exactly how we got in and couldn't get out until discovering vaping. Why not attempt to impress the young with true experiences to avoid their 'bakky entrapment?

With that said, it is truly disgusting and very tragic that 'they' don't even attempt to invest in true research of the vaping advantages/disadvantages! Just follow da money... BT, BP, politicians and the government alphabet soup.

So, here's hoping that the new ads do accomplish the objectives. And also, that the above players actually look out for the citizens, instead of their own bottom lines. (Insert Iffy's theory of 'Fat Chance' here!!!)
