Hi Folks,

Just subscribed, vaping since 2014, had some highs and lows during this period... switching back to smoking and then to vaping again, this time i think for real :)

Been a fan of mech mods, started with an Ikarus and tried a bunch of quality chinese ripoffs, then got my hands on a Caravela.

Recently got back on vaping full time, but on a DNA40 chip and I love it. Looking forward for the DNA200 and MORE TANKS.

I have this idea in my mind that the vape phenomenon is driven by a gadget mindset. We think our vaping gear is a gadget, and as a gadget need upgrading on a constant basis and quickly we become collectors.

As gear increases, we need more liquids, DIY stuff like coils, maybe a venture in the DIY flavouring and liquid making. Vaping has some of the hacking allure to it, with box mods made of wood, aluminum, plastic, 3dprinted stuff... basically if you have a hammer all you can see are nails! If you know how to make stuff you will try to put some effort in customize your own private vice.

What do you think? Do you feel the urge of trying new builds, new coils, new mods in an effort of improving the quality of the smoke? Are you developing your tasting skills the more you smoke?

Just another quick comment here... I see lots of people starting out asking for questions about pen styled batteries... I went straight on a genesis hybrid skipping the pen styled batteries because i knew what i wanted, i wanted quality, vape density, rebuilding my coils from the day1. In a sense, i knew that if i went for something sub-par or less powerful i might just as well go back to smoking... which I did in the end but that doesn't change the fact that in my opinion you have to start with the best experience otherwise you might end up spoiled!

AND with those models you cannot use the most used and better built 22mm tanks, which not only improve the smoke but also are MUCH more handy in terms of refills and vaping time and flavour. If you buy a pricey liquid, you definitely need to taste it with proper equipment otherwise you will get a less than acceptable experience. To me is just like drinking wine in a tumbler glass.

As a plus, I constantly hear of people smoking those cigarette-like mods with 400-600mah batteries and saying bad things about vaping. OF COURSE! I feel this might be counterproductive for the industry and most importantly will keep those people on a nicotine assumption path that is definitely more dangerous than ours. (says the one who smokes 0-3mg nicotine :)

Keep vaping guys!

Welcome to ECF!

I'm a gadget freak also and I think it's part of the appeal I have for vaping. Everyone's different though. Some new vapers want to start small and work their way up. Some go for higher power mods and skip the starter stuff. Either way, as long as it keeps them away from tobacco, it's all good.

I started with a basic Ego kit with CE4 clearomizers. Well, I actually bought 2 NJoy disposables which are pathetic but they got me to do some internet research. The Egos might have been good enough to help me quit but, before they arrived, I had already ordered an MVP 2. It was a vast improvement over the Egos. I still used them when out and about because of their size.

My most used battery now is the iStick 20w with a Nautilus mini. I don't need more right now. I have a couple homemade unregulated mods that I play with once in awhile but I prefer regulated mods. My most used device is a homemade 5v passthrough e-pipe with an IGO S dripper that runs off a 2 amp AC adapter. Best flavor of any of my setups.

What is frustrating to me is when new members want a recommendation for something that "looks like a cigarette". Anything that size is just a waste of money IMO.

Keep vaping guys!

I just want a simple cheap trouble free vape.
I've got a bunch of mods, rda's and tanks; all in the chase behind the most trouble free cheap quality vape I can get.

Hi! Can you elaborate on this point, please? I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to say.

I personally believe it is a matter of finding your 'Comfort Zone'.
Are you a Mouth- to -Lung Vaper (M-T-L) or a Lung Hitter ? Do you want Large Billowing Clouds or would a Smooth, Cool yet Flavorful Vape be what your after ?
Also, I hate to bring it up, but economic circumstances often play into our choice of gear.
Then there is Flavor. Are you looking to replicate the Cigarettes, Cigars or Tobacco Pipes you are leaving behind. Naturally Extracted Tobaccos are available from Whole Tobacco Alkaloids to Flavored Tobaccos. Do you like Sweets ? Bakery ? Mints ? Fruits ? Drinks ?
The possibilities are endless.
My Advice - first determine your Vaping Style. Find Equipment that fulfills that type of Vaping Needs. Then explore as many e-liquid vendors / flavors as you can. I would say finding flavors you truly enjoy is more important than fancy equipment that might be setting on a shelf six months from now.
There are a lot of good people here that are willing to help. Ask Questions. Ignore the 'Trolls', they don't last long here anyways. Find your own Comfort Zone.

I do continually upgrade, and try new things; I love technology, and e-cigs are my favorite tech yet. But I don't smoke anymore; nowadays I vape. The longer I vape and DON'T smoke, the better I can taste everything.

Hi djsvapour,

What i wanted to say is that people who start with those lowpowered mods are most likely the ones that wanted to have a go at an alternative to smoking, and given the output, the chance of them going back to tobacco is greater. The amount of vapour and satisfaction is so low it wasn't even worth keep smoking it. And then comes the bad PR as they bash vaping with fellow "curious" friends.

If you like to smoke them because of the form factor and portability AND you are also knowledgeable about the whole electronic smoking world as well, then good for you, but in my opinion when going to a shop the owner should let you try different batteries/mods and they should really investigate in why you are trying to have a go at this new way of smoking.

Well Mouth-To-Lung, what else can you do with those air channels getting bigger and bigger :)

Talking about e-liquids, since i started i never bought a tobacco flavoured liquid. For me this is a new thing, there is simply no point to me in having the same flavour in the liquid i smoke, it must be a new and better thing, more like a candy to me than traditional smoke.

Also, since i notice people constantly avoiding my big clouds on the streets, I like to think that they do that because of some preconceptions, because they didn't even smelled the smoke before changing their path, and if they complain i can always tell them that my liquid in fact is zero nicotine AND has a nice smell. If i would have to smoke tobacco flavoured mixtures then i would have no excuse but to apologise, which is a nice and wise thing to do if you are wrong in something, but at least it must not be gratuitous :)

Hi and welcome to the board. You're not alone in the shinyitis department. And I agree, TC is about the greatest thing since sliced bread in the vape world, or it is if you get a good board and a good implementation.

Well nichel wire yet to arrive in the mailbox :) i am relying to sub ohm kanthal heads for the subtank plus (i hope not for long time any more :).

Remember the days of oxidising the mesh with the torch, still if I find a replacement pyrex for the ikarus I might try to give it another shot in the future :)

Greetings personalvoid and Welcome to the ECF I've slowed down a little though with all the new coming all the time there is always something I need to add.......................................Enjoy..................................
Thanks,

If it is worthwile it has some sense keeping up to date... but I tend to put many layers of thoughts behind every mod, maybe too many thoughts, but ended up with a clear view of what i am looking for while doing so :D

I agree, you have my support on that. As someone who spent $800 on plastic 4w sticks, I wish there was an answer to this. For every 1 person that keeps looking and gets into better equipment, there are 2 (or 3 or 4) that go back to smoking and say e-cigs are rubbish. I smoked throughout the entire learning period.
It's not a war we are definitely winning though as the cig-a-like brands are convincing people that as their product is the '#1' or 'best' and there are hundreds of scam review sites propping up this money-driven insanity, there are vaping fails every day of every week across the world.

Thanks. :)
