I've been happily using a tank w/ boge cartos until the recent problems with crappy boges so thought I'd try something different. Read many positive reviews about the CE3's so ordered some. I just filled my first one (upside down) and can't get a decent hit off of it - it tastes horrible - sort of chemical / burnt combination. Every couple draws I can vaguely taste my juice but there's this strange after taste. I have to assume either I'm doing something wrong or I just happened to open up a bad one. Like I said, never used a clearomizer before so I don't know what's "normal" but this can't be normal, LOL I gave the tube a tap till bubbles came up and the juice level is going down, so I assume it's "working"! Any advice, ideas would be great!

I use 70/30 PG/VG and I trim the wicks (with cuticle scissors) at a angle and then I will rock the tube which will raise the center post allowing more juice flow; test and rock/raise the post more if need be. On my 50/50 juice the post is almost all the way out.
I have been using them since 4/1 and I don't mind doing this little adjustment for the greater reward :)

Edit: Don't fill them all the way, leave a air gap as they seem to work better starting off. I also give it a small squeeze after a fill up to ensure that it's primed.
Also, do not remove the top seal by prying it out using the fill hole. Use the supplied syringe tip or one of the same diameter to fill with.
If this hole becomes enlarged or damaged, they 'will' leak.
Hope that helps

I'm having trouble picturing that. Is there anything like that on YouTube? I have found NOTHING I can "just vape" if the juice is thick, I have to keep switching so juice can soak in again. For tanks, I'll punch more holes in the cartos (4 was not enough), for ce3, on the rare occasions when it is not leaking, I get a lot of burnt taste (and I cleaned it before use!), even a stardust-style clearo seems to heat up too much. And, what does the wick angling do?

Seems just about everything needs modding unless the liquids are super-thin. And then they leak if not using a carto.....maybe I just need to bite the bullet and buy some tools and L2Mod.

To the O.P.: try Kanger cartos.

I haven't seen anything on youtube. It's just my way of getting the most from the device.
I destroyed a few when I first got them just to see how they were made and what I could do to make adjustments.
We discussed this in the kr808 section in the large clearo thread.

1) I remove the outer & inner tubes
2) Hot water rinse; PGA soak and hot water rinse.
3) Dry burn then ensure the wicks are seated in the slots, hold them with my index and forefinger while I insert the metal tube.
4) Trim the wicks with cuticle scissors as this allows juice to the inner wicks faster.
5) Install the outer tube all the way; center and seat the top seal. (Do not remove the top seal by prying on the fill hole)
6) Fill with juice leaving 1/8" to 3/16" air gap. Blow out to remove any excessive juice.
7) Rock the outer tube, this will also rock the inner tube which will cause it to raise out of the atty base.
8) Prime by giving it a small squeeze and vape.

If I still get the occasional dry hit, I will rock the tube again and test. Like I said, on some juices, the inner tube is almost all the way out.

Hope this helps

What resistance are they and what voltage are you hitting them with?

I just trim the wicks flush with the tube. I vape 100% VG juice from AVE in the CE3s. I simply dilute the juice with 1 drop of distilled water per 2 ml of juice. I do occasionally rock the tube to open up the input holes to the wicks to allow the juice to enter more freely. Especially if I experience a dry hit. Overall, I think the CE3s do offer the best vaping experience in clearomizers. My wife really likes the Kanger T0s.

I tried that tada and it worked for some of my 50/50 juices, but they leaked when I went back to 70/30.

I am able to rock the 12w limit of my VVPV if I want by doing those adjustments and I don't get any burning taste or dry hits.

I converted the wife to CE3's a while back when she finally got fed up with her CE4+'s. I recently purchased a pack of CE2's for old times sake and it didn't take me long to put them away as the flavor of them wasn't close to par.
I found a pack of older boges LR's that I forgot I had and decided to give them a go also. Now I remember why I switched to clearos to begin with.

Suncruiser, is this the first fill-up?
They don't need a break in period if you clean & dry burn prior to use.
I think it's the shipping/antibacterial fluid that may be giving you that taste if you are familiar with your juice.
If you don't clean prior to use, then it will take 1 or 2 tanks to get through it.

The burnt taste may be lack of capillary action of the wicks, which is why trimming helps. Raising the tube also helps meet those with a greater vaping pace.
For me, those are minimal adjustments for maximum performance.

Maybe one day they will make a 'out of the box' device to meet everyones juice combinations & vape pace, but it will have to be adjustable for sure.

I was using a DCT tank and after hitting my buddies clearomizer I decided I like that taste better. When I first filled my clearomizer it tasted awful, like you described (I was like wtf). I left it sitting there for a couple of hours and tried it again it tasted and worked like a champ. The ejuice I was using MS.T was super think so I am thinking on the first use it needs to be saturated in Ejuice.

Thanks for all the tips/advice - I decided to try another one and this one appears to work - no burnt taste, lots of vapor. So I guess my first one out of the box was a dud? It is a different "experience" from my tank and carto......smoother and less throat hit - not sure why that is but I'll try it for a while to see if I get used to it. I like the idea of no carto filler and wondering if I'm smoking cotton!! I think I'll use the dud to learn how to take it apart, see this wick thing, etc., LOL!
