I have been using Smoktech DCTs for a few weeks, getting all my gear from litecigusa which says their stuff is Smoktech brand. I got a PS Prodigy which is a pure 6 volt mod with mechanical switch and wanted to use a tank, litecig only sells 2ohm so I found some 2.5s from madvapes.

Juiced one of the 2.5s up and attempted to use it on the Prodigy and ..... nothing, no vape, nada....and worse the batts got instantly, VERY hot only after hitting the mechanical switch for a second. So hot I threw them out back and waited for them to explode. They didn't so put them in the freezer and they were saved. Tried a second set of batts....same. And the kicker.....the carto works in a 5 volt mod. Further, everything else works on the Prodigy including the 2ohm cartos fire fine.

Are these just bad off brand 2.5ohm cartos? Am I breaking some carto rule I don't know about???

2.5 ohm cartos used at 6 volts would produce 14.4 watts and draw 2.4 watts. That's an extremely hot vape, but I don't see it heating up the batteries beyond their capacity. Have you checked the resistance with a meter? If they shipped you the 1.5 ohm DCT cartos you would be vaping at 24 watts and 4 amps. That would produce a very high drain on your batteries.

It's also possible that the cartos are producing a direct short in the Prodigy. That would produce instantaneous high heat. I've heard of attys that short in one ecig and not in the other due to the differrences in diameter between the center contacts in the two. The center contact on the atty should extend out about 1/2mm from the outer ring.

Ill check the diameters of the post. I have never encountered this as I have just switched to dual coil cartos. I think you are right with the direct short, the heat was instant...scary instant!!!

Check out this resistence recommendations page from mad vapes:

I think you are right with 2.5ohms being too hot at 6V even though they recommend it ......... I have two 5V devices and really like them with a 2 ohm dual coil setup....so I guess my carto sweet spot is 12.5 watts.
Will these dual coils drop off with higher ohms?
If not Ill get some 3 ohms from another place and try the Prodigy again......I just really want it to work!!!

Somewhere out there
Personally I don't like dual coil DC cartos, I was using a couple in a new tank and on the Provari I could only vape it at 3.1-2, at 4.4 I totally fried it. Stick with single coil for higher volts is my suggestion and at 6 v you should be using SR cartos. I actually do not know why people love the dual coils, at high volts I think they suck- LOL!! bnrk

SR = standard resistance. Generally I think of it as up in the 2. 8 - 3.0 zone, though honestly I believe 2.5 ohm is SR at eGo/510 voltage 9but not so much if running up at 6V).

Try a boge 3 ohm XL (XL to get to the length that will fit your DCT). No idea who carries them pre-punched, or if maybe you punch your own.

2ohms at 6V? Ouch -- 18W, you must like a "firm" vape :) 3A draw is pretty healthy. I take it those are IMR batteries?
