Before using new CE2 wick you should torch it with a butane lighter, one of those ones with a 'OXY' like blue fame or even more intense heat. It will send the wick black(ish) then continue and it will come back to brilliant white. It seems to burn out any impurities that may be trapped in the fibres. That's why some smoke comes off them when you dry burn the new ones prior to use. It may help your wicking AND taste problems.

Great!!!!!!
I've been loving the ce2's except that they get charred around the coil. Now maybe I have a way to clean them. Pull charred part out of the coil, fry till white, pull back in.

kellymcm,

You'll need something like needlenose plyers to pull the plate out anyway. If you can grab the slots on the side it would be better than mangling the needle itself, but either way works. Nothing physical is holding it in there except a tight fit.

Before you do that take tweezers and try to pull up on the wick to get it even with the top of the needle. The wick is in the center of the piercing needle. If you can't see the atomizer and ceramic bowl/battery hole, it is in there. In this photo you can see mine is full of juice and too low. A few stands are sticking up. This was a leaker.

See the rest of the photos in my profile album.

Grab as much as you can from both edges and pull up a tiny bit. The wick strands are loose so you don't want to pull out just a few out. Worse case you can fix it if you have to pull the plate. Don't pull the wick completely out like I did if you take the plate out because it is difficult to get it back in without it falling apart.

I think these wicks are not consistent and get clogged, moved, etc. My current theory is blowing out the atty can cause the wick to move up or down a bit.

I have one leaker at 1/4 tank and below and one that is still working okay. I have tried new tanks, different juices, etc. so I am pretty sure it's the wick. My other theory is the plate has been pushed down by pushing the tank in. It's horrible when the juice pours out and goes into the mouth piece, isn't it?

I haven't put my dissected one back together yet because I am waiting for some sillca rope to make a new wick.

A nap is a great idea!

So thanks for all the incites & pics, juicejunky & everyone else,

I finally found small enough needle nose & got the plate out...

my wick is toast ....actually there is very little left just a few burnt fibers,

It was wadded up on the coil with the little bead of mesh sitting in the middle...

like a little burnt birds nest ! ... So crap! I need a wick, don't have any cartos w/wicking ...

I do have an (never used) oil lamp wick ...that is white, braided & very silky looking,
sure looks like the same material......but... I wish I knew what it is made out of.
I know it can stand up to an open flame but who knows what chemicals could come off of it ???
** after a few searches it looks like this wick might be fiberglass??
@least that is what the replacement wicks are ,so I guess I can't use that !

So where are you getting sillca rope from ?
When I googled it I got a link to your post  then a bunch of garbly ....,pretty funny...

Bummer about the wick.
I ordered
Round Braided Silica Rope Seal 3/8" Diameter

from McMaster-Carr at Scottbee's recommendation. $3.71 fo a foot plus shipping (unclear what that is yet) It should arrive tomorrow from Chicago. A foot it suppose to be a 300 year supply according to Scottbee so if you PM me I'll cut off a hunk for you. If shipping turns out to be outrageous, I'll report back.

Check around fireplace inserts and oven doors, I think they use it there. I found some on our circa 1950 oven but didn't want to cut any off in the end, plus it looks pretty crusty.

eeewwww crusty

Hubby was laughing @ me cuz I mentioned that the replacement wicks were fiberglass & so I guessed I couldn't use it....
he said "DUH" fiberglass & silica are the same thing .... so Idk ? sure sounds wrong ...that we would use fiberglass wicks.

**hmmmm the silica rope page says "Silica has the flexibility of fiberglass, plus a higher temperature rating."

so haaa ! maybe they are NOT the same .... **

I appreciate the offer ...I may take ya up on it .......

Good news for my eGoTs. My non leaker good one is beginning to develop flavor so I have had to stop vaping my nonfavorites because I don't like them. Not full flavor but I can now tell what I am vaping.

On my dissected eGoT I have been dripping.

When I drip directly on the atomizer and stove pipe it, I get great flavor.

WHen I drip on the atomizer and use the empty whistle tip (no needle plate or wick in there) I get muted/cooled good flavor. Whistle tip chambers really cool it down. I suppose it is designed with one to control air flow.

When I drip into the mesh holding area from the sides it was spilling out after 2 drops and vapor was good but almost no flavor. I discovered the mesh holding area around the white atomizer dish is still very full of primer of some sort. Blowing it out would never reach that area since the air flows above the mesh. After a good Vodka (Absolut, nothing but the best for my atty) soak, it now holds 4-5 drops without spilling out and flavor is comparable to dripping directly on the atomizer. I think it is now finally wicking through the wicks wrapped by the coil. The color change in the photo below verifies that, since in my last one the wick was still white and coated with something clear.

My dissected atomizer is finally breaking in and I assume my good one also looks something like this. Isn't she a beauty?

I also took some photos to show that not lining up the flat sides of the plastic tank to the flat sides of the needle plate does in fact restrict airflow. The system shouldn't let you put them in the wrong direction, especially since it is a suction wicking system. I hope they fix this at some point, so I don't need reading glasses to load a pre-filled tank.

Constricting airflow to the lower chamber could lead to a hotter atty and put undo pressure on the plastic tank junctions in the top half. There will be some airflow, just not as much if you see how wide the rim is that holds up the needle plate and how much the cap overlaps the flat sides.

First photo shows how small the air slits are on the side of my good unadultered eGoT, the second with the cap on the needle plate the right way, and lastly the wrong way. This needle plate is from the bottom and it is missing the wick.

Just thought I'd share how happy I am my eGoTs are developing some flavor. It will probably never be the best flavor ever, but looking pretty promising it will be good enough on the go.

Have faith fellow flavorless vapers, it's coming.......:vapor:

Well it's been a while since I last posted in this thread and I slipped up big time and haven't picked up the ego-t for 3 weeks and have been smoking again.

I have new juices coming in soon in some of my favorite food flavors and some strong tobacco ones too. I have also with this incoming batch, optimised my nic mg for my weak times - when I want to smoke the most - which are

1. in the evening before bed with a movie and a cpl of beers and

2. when out drinking with friends.

I stopped vaping and started smoking in scenario 1 due to vaping in the p.m giving me the most godawful insomnia and in scenario 2 as well, it just didn't cut it like yummy smoke did. My new batch will include 6mg nic in my fave food flavours and 18mg in a strong turkish blend called 'desert ship' which I'm hoping will iron out those 'weak moments.' 6mg for evening direct dripping and 18mg on ego-t set up for when out on the lash...

Anyhow, went back to the pv with my old juices today just to see what I thought and these are my observations after a 3 week break.

1. The draw gets tight on your new t-atty BUT weirdly they draw better than new, far better in fact - after a good cleaning with boiling water and overnight drying. My tawa that has been thus cleaned 3 times draws almost as good as the oversized carto and way better than my new t-atty that has yet to be cleaned and has barely been used (about half a tank ran thru it so far.)

2. The flavor and th is still so much more satisfying with dripping. No comparison for me whatsoever, it's like comparing spam to pork chops. Posters saying otherwise, man I just cannot for the life of me see how they come to that conclusion! Honestly. And I'm only sripping on a regular 501 janty tawa, no fancy bridgless or lr.

3. The draw on the whistle tip oversized janty cartomizers is much looser and preferable to the draw on the ego-t, yet alas, they are a pita to fill etc. Seriously, the draw is awesome on those cartos. However as, mentioned above, after a cpl of cleans the ego-t gets nicely broken in and for me at least, performs pretty nicely and almost as nicely as the oversized carto.

cheers

mwa, good info on using the wick from the CE2. It seems a logical choice if you have them. A lot of people were cutting the wicks when doing the ptb mod so if they kept some (like I did jic) they have the solution right there. Also think the loop twist is the way to go. How much above the spike does it protrude?

Thanks everyone else for the constant snippets of helpful info. This is one very informative thread.

off topic a bit
'ournature' have you seen the new single battery pypes from the epipemod boys. The eGo-T looks good for the billiard-cue version!

Ok, if this has been covered my bad. I recvd my first two cone attys for the tank from TW. Along with the tanks. My second order was from Cignot. I ordered two cone attys and some clear tanks. No reason for changing vendors other than TW was the only one at the time that had them in stock. I normally get from CNot. My attys are diffrent from CN than the two from TW. Anyway the diffrence is the puncture spike and wick hole is larger from Cignot. The hole is bigger and the little spike is shorter. Not a problem in the seal on the cap from either, but when it comes to wicking and priming they are alot quicker. This mod from the factory will solve any burnt taste in my opinion. I had to let my tank sit for a little while on the ones from TW til it soaked up enough juice to vape. I had to hit it without pressing the power button to prime each time, with the new attys from CN, no priming drags needed once it was primed inatially. Now, is this a version 2 I do not know, but it works better than ever. Nice to know someone is listening, and tweeking the delivery hole. Chime in if you have noticed this please. I went back a dozen pages and did not notice this factory mod mentioned. Although it may have been somewhere.

Will I have any problems using these ego-t attys with the high voltage 5v passthrough?

Does anybody have any thoughts on this? If the info already exists, could someone point me towards it?
If you have a real PT (no battery) the voltage will depend on your power source. If it's a commercial USB type (connectors/skinny usb wires = extra resistance) a 5V@2000mA USB adapter (the most common sold and used) will probably give you actual, measured vaping/loaded volts of about ~4.1V.. Most Joye atties respond/perform well to that voltage.

To put it in perspective that's about a ~60% increase in WATTS over an Ego battery.

I currently have a Joye 510 and am thinking about switching to the Ego-T. Does the Ego-T produce more vapor and better throat hit than a 510? I use PG juice from PureSmoker, will this work in the Ego-T? Thanks in advance!

The answer is yes to all three. I was on a 510 for a year before I switched over to this recently. THe other benefit is the longer battery life. One those these lasts me all day, where i was going through 2+ charged batts a day with the 510's.

It was covered before in the thread, please don't make me look for it.

Scottbee wrote about it, so did other users. The V2 is larger and works better.

yep, i did post the factory change a couple of weeks ago, that's the difference between release 1 and 2 of the tank atomizer.
