Looks like those screws are where the original piece was press-fit. That seems to be where most of them fail. (I've also had no issues, although I mostly use the vamo these days. Used the hell out of the evic without any problems, including dropping it a lot, sitting on it, etc..)

I'm curious Disconnect, why mostly the Vamo now?

Wow i hear alot of people having probs with evic, I must have got lucky.

Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2

Most problems reported with the eVic would be the same for cell phones. They are made to use, not Drop on the floor/concrete.
Evic head is pressed together with a light epoxy to bond. Newest release has added 2 screws to lock the head assembly together and strengthen the assembly.

I'm sure someone will still find a way to break theirs. One thing I've learned. If it can be built, someone can break it.

As far as having mechanical problems with the eVic: I had a problem with mine but that was due to my handling of the device. It is apparently not designed to be impact resistant. A little patience and some epoxy fixed the damage I caused.

Speaking for the Provari: it is well made and has a very good product support.

Comparison:
Provari - I don't like the buttons or the overall feel. It lacks VW. Requires separate purchase of batteries and charger, never requires software.
eVic - I do like the overall feel, It's a gadget, lacks high volt high watt of other units, like the navigation and button, requires no additional purchases, software problems on occasion especially the PC software.

Overall including the imperfections the eVic has been an amazing deal for moving from ego batteries to mod batteries. I hear way too much emotional comparison especially with the Provari. The Provari is a good device if it suits you. I don't understand the personal product identification that promotes illogical comparison. Price point benefits and features.

I have seen a few comments that where spot on and compared features and functions as well as construction and I appreciate that.

Pennies in a jar.

I've seen pics of a minor change - they bolted the top into the frame instead of press-gluing it.. Nothing revolutionary but it solves the most common problem.

I would like to see them make a metal body with a brighter screen so that we can see it during the day. Reinforce the center pin with a through shaft to improve durability, and keep the interface input ring and button pretty much the same.

All this and I am a fairly happy eVic owner.

What do you guys mean by a press fit top head? Everything on mine screws in...control head screws to battery tube and the little cone thing screws on also...you mean the part with the ego and 510 connection is actually press fit onto the control head instead of...i dunno being ....ing part of the actual head? thats kind of dumb. mine doesnt have screws anywhere either. it doesnt look press fit to be honest...i dont know. only got mine last week...maybe its different again?

Yeah I saw the pic of the screws...doesn't have that on mine...I guess mine is older? You mean just look next to the ego and 510 connection and there should be screws right? Dunno, it doesn't look press fit either but I guess it is. My serial number is a lot higher than the recalled ones, so I would imagine that it is newer and I should have the screws...eh, oh well.

Interesting to see what they do. I have some gorilla glue in case. Wasn't there new year a couple of months ago or do they have a couple?
Typically takes 45-60 days for inventory to turn in most resell business so they are just starting to go out in the US some Euro countries are probably a few weeks ahead.

I would advise against Gorilla Glue. It expands as it cures. Must be clamped/wiped as it cures and you cannot control the internal expansion(direction) Ant dampness will increase expansion up to 4x(no good) I use it building/repairing RC Aircraft and it can be a pain at times.
