In an electrical circuit, heat occurs where there is resistance. That's why Kanthal and Nichrome work -- they resist, slowing down electrons, converting motion to heat. I think that's how it works, anyway. I was able to put it on the Internet, so it must be true.

Anyway, tfarol, I'm guessing your atty isn't the only place you have resistance. My p+ heats up at the button when it's exceptionally dirty. Sometimes when I fire it I make a fist around it and use the tip of my middle finger to fire. I did that tonight and nearly burned a blister on my palm at the heel of my thumb. I dissembled the button and wiped the grime off it, also using my thumbnail to press some tp into the groove of the bottom collar threads and clean those out. Now, no more heat where there shouldn't be.

I'm probably getting lower voltage drop and better battery life, too.

Skin oils and dirt tend to work into the button, and maybe there's a little arcing cooking them into resistive sludge.

Does cleaning your Simplicity get rid of the unexpected heat?

Essentially, yes. Quoting from the Internet, so it must be true:

"When an electric current flows through a solid or liquid with finite conductivity, electric energy is converted to heat through resistive losses in the material. The heat is generated on the microscale when the conduction electrons transfer energy to the conductors atoms through collisions."

Interestingly, heat is proportional to the square of the current (amps). So a small difference in amps can result in a large difference in heat. Which explains why a lower resistance at the same voltage produces more heat.

Just a heads up that we only have a few left of the 18350 and 18500's Precise Simplicities so don't miss out as it'll be awhile before the next batch is done. I think there about 25 18650's left too.

You really know how to coerce a decision. Was waffling between a 350 and 500 and just pulled the trigger on the latter. My first Super T. :D

I like the 18650, running a 18490 and the KickII in the tube. It is pretty much the same size as my buddy's 18350 w/kicklet attached. I get good battery life out of this setup, and if I need ridiculous run times, I switch to 18650 mode, and add the kicklet on top. Yes it's long, but if I'm traveling, or don't want to deal with carrying spare cells, it's perfect. I like the smaller form factor of the little guys, but I think the 18650 is the most versatile of the Simplicity line. Once the integrated RBA comes out I see it as being a very hard mod to beat. Plus, in a pinch it could be used as a improvised self defense tool. ;)

Let's try this again...

The other day I received my mid-sized 18500 and Kiklet tube. What an awesome size!
This PV arrived with a heavy duty spring. I'm not sure if that was purposeful or an error, but it was immediately evident when I set it up. Freaked me out, it definitely wasn't the beautiful P+/Simplicity action I expected. Luckily I have no shortage of springs laying around here.
The adjustable post feature of the Simplicity is both a boon and a bane for me. When you use the Kiklet all the adjustable posts can create a chain reaction where you need to fiddle with each of them for awhile to get things just right when you first set it up. But when you do you sure end up with a sleek tight unit.

Snork glad you like it. Looks really nice in that length.

My ELA came with the heavy duty spring as well and had me wondering. I'll need to order the lighter one as I also love the smooth and light switch.

I got my (unkicked) 18500 Simplicity, my first Super-T, on Thursday. I guess I also got the heavier spring because full up, the weight doesn't come close to pushing the switch in when standing on end. I find it an easy pinkie press. The switch throw (factory washer setup) is about 1/2 the possible switch travel with my batteries. The AW IMR 18490 fits fine with the factory o-ring setup, with less than 1/2 turn to fully tighten it after initial contact. This is exactly the way I'd want it set up, military vs target trigger, so it was Plug and Play for me. The factory center post setting also was good for the few things I put on it (19 mm IBTanked w/Boge, ProTank 1, and REO RDA).

This is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship, perfect in size (for me), and elegant in its Simplicity. :) I especially love the look and grip of the finish. I couldn't be happier with this purchase and the excellent e-commerce experience. Thank you, David.
