From Lazerred's perfect coil .... to the notsoperfectlycoiled (mine), the DID rocks!

Don't laugh too hard... at least it works!

A nice white cloud! (never see *white* with cartos)

A nice white stream of vapor, even when it's dying because the coils are old and senile like me:

I just got my DID today, yay! I've been experimenting with it and think I've got the wick and coil down good enough for now. After I set up the coil and press the button, vapor pours out of the top like crazy, but once I put the top cap on and take a draw, the vapor is almost non-existent. Even when I take long slow drags, I get almost no vapor, but if I take the top cap off again it starts spitting vapor like crazy!

I'm a bit baffled by it. This is my first rebuildable, so I'm not sure how to go about fixing my problem. Any suggestions? Also, sorry if my problem has already been addressed here, 300+ pages is a lot to wade through.

Ensure the air hole in the side of the top cap is unobstructed. Some caps had holes drilled that still have a small metal burr on the inside of the cap. Take the burr off if that's the case.

Wick should not be higher than the top of the positive post. If too tall it can short against the top.

Loose wire hanging off the negative screw that gets threaded when the top cap is replaced.

Some possibilities off the top of my head.

I've also been playing with hitting the DID with no drip tip and feel that improves the TH a little. May look into getting a shorty drip tip or even just putting a carto plug in the end of the DID. I'm using longer Siam mods ones at the moment. Putting some thought into widening the airhole a tad too but wish I could try it out that way before doing it... I was expecting a much looser draw from what I had read... I tried unscrewing the head some so that some air passes through to see if I can simulate a looser draw... Doesnt really work though since the air from the bottom doesnt all pass over the coil... Hmmm.
Hey Mister C. Check that there isn't anything blocking the airhole in the top cap. Sometimes there can be a small filing or burr in the hole. Found this on one of my DID's cap when I was cleaning it out of the package. Took a paperclip and cleaned it right out.

I had the same thing, when this happen it is only the air hole issue.
as a test I will ask you to open the top cap a little and make sure the air hole facing the coil, then vape and you will see a huge difference. then open the top cap and try to close it and tight it the way that the air hole end up facing the coil.

and guys correct me if I'm wrong if the air hole is bigger then the vapor production will increase to double

I know that I just received DIDs #4, 5, 6 today. On this batch the hole in the cap does NOT line up with the wick. Try putting an O ring over the top cap threads use your thumb to mark the area in front of the wick then screw on the top cap making sure the hole is in the right spot. That should get you fixed up.

That's unfortunate. Here's something for you to try that might avoid having to use the O-ring : Interchange the tops of the various new ones - like top of #4 on DID #5 or #6 - and see if the hole lines up with the wick. You might get lucky.

The 2 line up perfectly for all my DIDs. But I noticed that if I switch the tops between the ones that I have, they don't line up. So maybe the reverse might work in your case. Worth a try ...

Man i just got mine yesterday, haven't set it up yet. Is anyone else having issues with the air hole lining up on their newer units?
might be an isolated defect, I just checked my #3 that came in the mail yesterday and it lines up properly.

Ya, agree with Kickserve's suggestion to swap around the top caps. If this doesn't solve the problem I'd be curious as to how far 'off' the misalignment is. Are we talking a mm or two or 1/2 a turn?

Certainly this is something I'm sure Jim is interested in hearing about so he can correct. The temporary fix of using an o-ring between the top and bottom appears to work ok in the interim.

Your kidding the threaded top lining up the air hole, with the wick, is a very purposeful design feature, You should alert Jim.

I followed your suggestions and the vapor seems to have improved a bit. I think that I've done about as much tweeking as I can and hope that as I get better making wicks and coils, it increased vapor will come with it.

I did a lot of research on rebuildables before I bought my DID, so I knew that airhole placement was key. When I first assembled the atomizer, I made sure that the airhole was facing the coil, so it's not that.

My airhole lined up perfectly with my wick/coil, so I didn't try putting the o ring on the cap threads, since that would just throw off the alignment.
