Make sure that you let me know when you are ordering anything from there. :p

FYI, you would be proud of what I have accomplished this evening. I performed my most extensive operation on the DID. I changed out my juice flavour. :thumbs:

* Syringed out the old juice.
* Twisted out the wick from between the coils.
* Dry burned the coils.
* Quenched and burned the wick to get rid of the old flavour.
* Filled tank with new juice.
* Re-insert wick into tank.
* Check wicking action.

FIRE!!
Perfect changeover!!

Excellent. I have one did working for 4 days. Today I removed wick and dry burned to clean coils. Burned wick and reinserted to continue all clean.

Problem? I'm cursing the other two dids. I just can't get them going. Provari, E errors, shorts, hot spots, etc. damn. I'll get there. Got one cleaned. I know I'm missing something stupid.

I bet it's the top nuts :)

It's gotta be. I find it's either the nuts or the wire not laying down. But being tired doesn't help. But it's frustrating because not only do I have one running, I an tear it apart enough to clean, reassemble and fire. Hey. My all day vape is still kicking .... And hitting like a freight train.

Sounds simple minded (and +1 on having one squared away to take the pressure off) but I'd twist the wicks out of the other 2 and torch them again and try again (done this more than once). Key is getting the wick to play ball (twisting out the wick and torching again [and again if necessary] is quicker than nudging for 2 hours).

hmm, just thinking about the Mini's about to ship with SS hardware. I'm guessing that means no allen key and I think I saw somewhere that the wick hole is smaller (~2.5mm?). 10 bonus points for the 1st person to ID a standard wrapping tool for wicks (has to be something readily available/common)

I wrapped one wick using the allen key that came with the DID, but I found it easier to wrap my second wick on the round toothpick that I was using to nudge the coils. It was easy enough to wrap around it, but what made the process easier was being able to hold the toothpick between thumb and forefinger, and then roll the wick tight using thumb and forefinger of my other hand.

Try it.. you all have a round toothpick within reach right?! ;)

I have a box of 1000 round toothpicks, just a couple feet from me as I type, that I bought to help me quit smoking (oral fixation). Hahahaha! I've been using them to adjust the coils on my DID. Never once used them in the "not smoking or vaping" window. ;)

Sweet! Purposefully repurposed to achieve the original purpose :laugh:

I'll have to give that a go. But yea, I was timid cleaning the one working one. Fearing boba in a carto for work tomorrow. But I feel feather on a cap.

I DO have faith. If I can get one running AND cleaned 4 days later I KNOW I can get the other two stubborn ones going.

I hear ya. I spent the first 2-3 weeks getting to know my my DID. And one thing that I learned is that it really wants to please us. I was nervous about messing with the temperamental coils/wicks until I got really ...... off at it and realized it had to do what I told it to do (I just had to learn what the right thing was to tell it to do). Now, if she gives me a hard time I burn the 5h1t out of the wick and make sure the coils don't touch anywhere they're not supposed to. Another thing I've started doing (and probably doesn't do anything other than make me feel like I'm in control) is to season the coil with juice (at the "during" picture). After dry burning it clean, I'll put a couple drops on the coil and heat (not till glowing, just till juice cooks down) a couple times then reinstall the wick.

Interesting. I didn't opt for that as it was same coil and same wick. When I removed the wick I did torch it again and re seasoned in all that during phase but being pure VG I knew that all had to be done.

That's the odd part. This one listens to what I tell her to do. The sisters are stubborn. :D

I must be strange I tear my DIDs down several times a week just for fun. Tonight I tore 2 down and changed the coils to 30 awg just to see how it vaped like that. Now I do have 6 DIDs ( one is out of commission after I torched the center post brittle). I think having several to chose from helps. Doesn't take but a couple of minutes now unless I am trying some new wick type.

One thing from the after pic, looks like your wick is a bit taller than your center post. It can short on the top cap too (which doesn't show up till after the top cap is screwed on. Looks like you're not touching bottom (which is good), but I trim the top to the same height as the center post (after raising 1mm-2mm off bottom of tank).

You're very fortunate. I have 3 now (and 2 Minis on the way), but I haven't forgotten the dread of messing with my one and only for the first couple weeks. I guess in the grander scheme of life it shouldn't be, but it was stressful and frustrating till I figured out what worked well for me. One of the problems here is that it is not an exact science. You can't just list steps 1-10 and guarantee success for folks. Everyone comes up with their own hybrid of all the great suggestions and then it becomes repeatable and very satisfying. Until then, my sympathy goes out to the folks still working on it.

P.S. I agree, tinkering is fun. I bought my 2nd and 3rd because I wanted to try every new tip, trick or method in this thread (and other threads). Besides, you get to play with torch :evil:

What are you kind folks using to polish your DID's (for those that bother keeping them nice and shiny) Flitz? Thinking about investing in a Dremel tool to aid in the polish process (and many other things) but not sure what compound to use. I'll be attempting to polish by hand for the time being until I get the Dremel. Any cloths/rags that are good for that sort of thing?

Also, does anyone clean the brass center post and nuts every so often? If so, how?

Anyway, still love my DID :)
