What are you kind folks using to polish your DID's (for those that bother keeping them nice and shiny) Flitz? Thinking about investing in a Dremel tool to aid in the polish process (and many other things) but not sure what compound to use. I'll be attempting to polish by hand for the time being until I get the Dremel. Any cloths/rags that are good for that sort of thing?

Also, does anyone clean the brass center post and nuts every so often? If so, how?

Anyway, still love my DID :)

Mine has not required anything other than a gentle rub down with a microfiber cloth. Has yours tarnished in some way?! I don't see how, considering it's Stainless. As for the nuts and posts, I'm not taking mine apart just yet. :)

One thing from the after pic, looks like your wick is a bit taller than your center post. It can short on the top cap too (which doesn't show up till after the top cap is screwed on. Looks like you're not touching bottom (which is good), but I trim the top to the same height as the center post (after raising 1mm-2mm off bottom of tank).

Wanna know something funny? That's my tallest wick. And that's the one that's consistently performing solid. I ALMOST trimmed that down but left it and trimmed the stubborn ones. All laws broken here. :)

I'm having a bad DID day today. Average vapor, little throat hit below average flavor. I pulled out an old Boge in a tank and the vapor, throat hit and flavor were actually better so I've taken that set up with me today until I can find time tonight to fiddle with my DID. Spending this much time and effort needs to have a pay off of much better quality vaping. I believe I'm on the fence with this at the moment. It comes down to a simple equation for me.
If DID fiddling > VTF then DID, if DID diddling = or < VTF then Boge.
Like I said ..... maybe it's just a bad DID day!

Let me clarify my last post. I need consistancy. I've had my DID working fantastic, I've had it suck. If I can get it to work consistantly great it'll be a win. That seems to be a challenge at the moment.

I feel your pain. I've put a LOT of side projects at home on hold that I haven't gotten to because of the fiddling with my two stubborn ones. I have one working like a champ. But at some point, you ask "how much longer can I put 'life' on hold?"

For me? It's a matter of if I have one, I'm sure of the other two some day.....but when day?

Had those days too. They become less frequent and troublesome as you gain familiarity with troubleshooting. The effort to correct also becomes less. I've gone from vaping the vmax/DID combo from 20% of the time initially to 90% of the time at present. I'm sure this too shall pass when the next best thing comes out.

hmm, just thinking about the Mini's about to ship with SS hardware. I'm guessing that means no allen key and I think I saw somewhere that the wick hole is smaller (~2.5mm?). 10 bonus points for the 1st person to ID a standard wrapping tool for wicks (has to be something readily available/common)

How about a toothpick? Though I don't have a mini and probably never will, that seems reasonable from my vantage point. Or, how about the center pin?

Yes, a round toothpick works perfectly for me. I don't use the allen key to wrap the mesh.
It helps to 'stetch' the mesh outwards as you're rolling it.

Still seeking some help on getting the flavor right on this. Read the links ema has on tips & tricks, i got vapor, i've got good burn, i want 1.6-1.9ohm i got, but im not getting good flavor still. Everything taste very mild vs my RA drip on silica wick. Wonder why and if someone can shed a light :)

Maybe its smoother because your not breathing in all those silca shards I've been reading about. Just kidding, I hope. Flavor is another tricky aspect. I had great flavor early on, lost it, got it back. First, use a good juice, I think this is very important. I was using, shall I say, very reasonably priced product and was satisfied filling my cartos or tanks, even dripping with them. I have noticed, with the did, taste or lack of, very pronounced and detectable. Some of my favorites had a muted off taste, while others were almost perfume like. So, I went on a juice mission. I have found my sweet spot with Virgin Vapors, this is very personal journey, so I just recommend experimentation. Now I know others really enjoy low res vaping around the 1.5-1.7 mark. During my experimentation, I discovered more joy at 3.0 ohm, with a vv cranked to 5.0-5.5 depending on my mood. I thought flavor popped for me at this configuration. Again very personal and requires subjective trial and error. One other note, make sure you are not shorting. Shorting in some instances made my vape either harsh, or muted the taste dramatically. I can now discern a short by taste alone, having experienced the quality of a given juice through the did.

Nope, not tarnished by any means. If you've ever seen pictures of dspins GG's and DID, you'll see he keeps them VERY shiny :) Would just like to try my hand at giving my DID a bit extra shine.

I feel for you! Hang in there.
There are a few reasons why you might not be experiencing fantastic flavor, which the posters are pointing out.

Did you use the Jack Frost method?
Did you cut the tank's end of the wick at a 45% angle?
Did you torch/quench the rolled wick 3x?
Did you ejuice and fire it 3x?
Did you raise it off the bottom of the tank after inserting it?

We've so got to get you going with this! A fantastic vape is just one tweak away. Hang in there!

Hey ASH!! Good to see you. Congrats on your DID purchases! You certainly won't be chasing a popped off cap with this sweet genny. Very pocket friendly! Which, is a must have when you're arms are full with bundles of bessings such as yours. I'm so happy for you!!

My first attempt was with the allen wrench, but I couldn't manipulate the roll small enough. The next attempt worked fantastic though, using a straightened out large paper clip.
Once I get my rolls down, the wrench will be just as easy, I'm sure.

Wish I could get a DID Mini. Going to ditch the ProV and put it on a Precise +. Then maybe I can get another DID. It really is my favorite. The coil on my tutorial wrap busted. I was doing the follow up and had to shut it down due to a mistake but then the coil broke. So I am using the Orion now in short mode. Not sure about the DID follow up now though since its not the same coil. If only I was happy with a 4 or 5 wrap. I just like pushing the limits. :vapor:

Not sure is it's interesting for you, but I finally got it. I make my coil on the thick wood screw, rolled the wick a bit thinner and when installed the coil was glowing all the way. Now I've got the flavor I wanted. LOL The trick is - the coil shouldn't be tight on the wick - a bit looser. Problem solved..
