For those who were asking: yes, the plastic laurlok end on a 15ga blunt tip syringe does light on fire when you hit it with a blow torch

Decided to take a couple cm off a solid 500 mesh wick (I think I prefer the flavor when gravity feeds the wick better than the capillary feed), so unrolled/rerolled on a 15ga needle to make the center channel. Not sure when, but with 30awg I've gotten in the habit of doing a "set burn" once the coil is wrapped (I wrap on the wick before installing) holding it snug with hemostats. For what ever reason today I wrapped on a needle tip instead of my drill bit. Smelled something funny, turned off the torch and realized there were still flames.

For what it's worth, I really like a ~45mm 500 mesh with a 15g a center channel rolled wick hole width on a Mini. 30awg, annealed and wrapped 4/5 - ~1.4ohm.

I have been having a nightmare over the last few days on my no.2 DID, I put a Smokteck shorty DC clear plastic tank on it a while back excited about seeing my juice level wick etc. I have had intermittent sucess with my set ups on this for days now, I've had solid #500 120mm with 9wrap 28g nichrome, with snug wickhole fit & and my adjustable breather screw half open,#500 85mm with 18g center hole 5/6 wrap 30g Kanthal,#500 85mm rolled solid to 2.8mm with gap all round wickhole 10wrap 28g nichrome, even #500 25mm holow 2.8mm stuffed with organic cotton wool pad 10wrap 28g nichrome, ALL with strange burnt taste. I was getting to the point where.......... Well you can guess I was losing faith, however during all this I had DID No.1 with solid #500 180mm with 6wrap 28g nichrome, with snug wickhole fit & and my adjustable breather screw half open, running like a dream on the Paps.
I thought I had it sussed!!!!!
So tenacious stubborn mule that I am I took drastic action and pulled my No.2 DID to bits, and found this strange foul smelling gunk on the ss center post an in the center channel!
I don't have an ultrasonic cleaner, but have heard of bicarb of soda being used to clean jewellery, so every part of my DID went into a glass with 4 tablespoons of bicarb and then I filled up with boiling water, stirred and left for a few minutes poured contents into a sieve ran hot water over to rinse and hey presto sparkly DID parts.
I then returned the plastic tube to it's carto endcaps and reclaimed my gleaming ss DID body from carto hell.
I reassembled and to rid it of all bad ju-ju set about recoiling in a way I haven't used for months, I always use the drill bit method these days, but I DIDnt want to jinx this new rebuild.
I have been thinking about the solid wicks I've been building and wondering if they are too tight to really hold any quantity of juice so first of I grasped my #500, 85mm wick rolled solid to 2.8mm and rolled it the opposite way to loosen it up till it was around 3.3mm, then a quick re-oxidize and dropped it in the wick hole, then proceeded to coil a 5wrap 30g Kanthal actually on the wick while it was in place in the DID, man that was fiddly compared to the drill bit method, and I was sure I was scraping of the oxidization as I went.
But, it was a nice tight/snug wrap and after a quick dry burn and the odd coil nudge with a tooth pic I got a steady 1.5Ohm and an even glow on all coils, quick drip of liquid onto the coil and all looked sweet.
Filled vaped and, OMFG finally a DIDworthy vape. I'm using the same juice I pulled out of it before the rebuild so taste will improve when I refill with fresh but, thank god I persevered. This setup even runs great on my Paps, which surprised me as my other setup in DID No.1 is 0.9Ohms.
As for the strange gunk..... All I can surmise it that the smokteck tank was somehow hindering my poor DID, and I now won't be trying a clear tank until Pyrex comes to MMV.

Sounds like you attended the same school of "Learn the Hard Way". I have done several really dumb things. My latest was adjusting the coil with my finger while firing. Left me with a very nice burn on my thumb.

Who knew when they gave up smoking that they were going to turn in Mad Scientists, huh?! My Den looks like a cross between a welders workshop and a chemistry lab!!

It's so much fun though when I actually get to play in there. :)

Well isn't THAT interesting. I had open wick, and then solid wick. I thought I was losing my mind thinking "I think the flavor is fuller open". I actually almost did the same thing last night.....was just too tired. So I planned on that tonight.

Agreed D! And if you guys want to take better pics, it's really all about capturing the SS in the most flattering light. Steer clear of harsh fluorescent lighting, and instead opt to take your photos outside or even by a window. Now D manages to take flawless photos from what feels like every which angle (for whatever reasons only he knows), but I've found that the angle at which you hold your device makes a huge difference in how your photos turn out. Take a few different shots while holding your did upright, parallel to the ground, and at around a 45º angle, and if you have the time, also take a few sets like that but with the sun at different positions relative to where you're holding the device. You'll notice that some angle/lighting combinations will make your SS look utterly shiny and almost glass like, where as others will reveal each and ever minute imperfection, nick, and scratch. Find what angles, positions to the sun, backgrounds, and lighting work best for you! Neither D nor I are photographers, and idk about D, but I take 90% of my photos on my iPhone, so it's not like I'm using any professional photography equipment. With a little bit of practice you can drastically improve how your photos turn out! But as a tiny note, no Photoshop guys.....I do some graphic art work on the side for my job and have been using Photoshop since I was probably 7 or 8, but I NEVER doctor any of the photos I upload to keep a level playing field and so I don't misrepresent any of the subjects of my pictures, and I'd hope that everyone else tries to do likewise :) Dspin doesn't use PS either btw...but at his age, it's a wonder the man can use a computer at all!

Very funny

Thanks dspin!

The DID is so easy to setup with 30awg. Found out that 3/4 30awg @1.6ohms is the right setup for me, even with the little 18350's
Just coiling, puls fire with low batt, shorts on top coil, figgling top coil, pulse fire again, top coil glows even, coil below comes etc....
Piece of cake everybody can do it!

And what's the most beautifull: coil and wick lasts for weeks!
I only do every week a dry burn, and ultra sonic and my coils are as new :)

Great looking coil there Paul

Ouch, made me cringe. I can picture the parallel white lines across my thumb. I never DID this, but came close a couple times when I wasn't paying attention.

Went to my Dad's 80th birthday last night and they needed a lighter for candles, everyone turned to me (previously the only smoker left in the family) and I shrugged and said I don't carry a lighter anymore. My wise-... 11 year old smugly shouted out, "hey Dad, didn't you bring your blow torch?"
:p

Funny, in an "ironical" kinda way, I try every new/super cool/greatest thing since sliced bread/end-them-all setup that comes along (can't fight the mussmods...) but seem to always come back to some setup that while fine tuned for taste is very similar to the original setup from Jim's 1st video...

Me too!! I can picture poor Dad's face when he thought about all those candles on his cake, and I can picture the astonishment on family members faces trying to picture him lighting his eCig with a blow torch, ... it's priceless. Thanks for the morning laugh CW!

I would imagine that if you don't Jack Frost to the ends of the earth, a wall AND center hole would partially both act in the wicking. And that's how I view it. I do think the 500 is better, but I don't see it alone being the game changer. So although I use 500, I won't panic when left out of stock and only have the 400 in the house.
You won't be torching to all hell to turn the inner tube into a straw lining anyway is my point I guess.

Well I believe I have come to a peaceful agreement with my 30 AWG that it will operate properly and I will not use it clothesline the little maniac kids running through the fire break behind our house which annoys the heck out of my poor dog :D

So I have a 1.3 Ohm coil which is a 4/5 wrap. I did use a 3/64ths inch drill bit to make the center hole in my wick and then used a 7/64ths inch drill bit to wrap my coil around before I placed it onto said wick and then I attached it to the DID and removed the wick from the center and began shaving off a little strip at a time until the wick slid nicely down through the coils. After I got a comfortable fit with the wick I removed it and tested the ohms of the coil with nothing in it on my Provari. 1.3-1.4 ohms full red glow. Perfect. So I inserted the wick and then did the same, it also came out to about 1.3 ohms and since the wick was wet I did not get much of a glow from the coils but I certainly got a huge amount of vapor production. Bingo set the Provari to 3.7 volts and the taste, TH and VP are absolutely perfect :D

A Huge thank you to each and every one of you for all the help you have given me since I am after all a new Genesis Rookie :D

Sincerely;
Nate aka Darth Vapor
