This is what I bought. 316 Stainless Steel Wire Rope 7x19 3 32" | eBay
It's 3/32" or 2.38mm. I wanted to start with something a bit smaller in diameter as it's supposed to wick well anyways and I'm not a fan of slow heating coils, which I believe will be the case if the cable is fatter.
Should be here tomorrow so I'll throw my two cents into the pot when I try it.

Ok, I too am getting curious about this SS rope.... So tell me people where do I get this, what size do I need etc! :p

G'day Miriam, The Mesh Company UK is now a one stop shop for all wicking and wire and very cheap too! I just placed an order, though I don't really think I shall ever need to use the rope as what I have going right now seems indestructible.
I chose to use the 2.4 7x7 that Hoey kindly sent to me along with some 2.4 7x16 which I shall try later, the process was so simple I didn't even remove the coil (peter k method) I heated rope almost white hot and dunked in water twice wrapped a short bit of untorched #500 mesh twice very tight on rope did a few short pulses to get coils to glow and away she went, getting better as it went I found the draw a little tighter but then I also found how much vapour I had in mouth. Setup is 3/2 .6 ribbon @ 1Ohm 3.4 v.
Well worth a try for a couple of bucks.

I've been following the thread above that you linked awhile ago and also Here and this is my ss rope Source. Very clean and no nylon but I still boil for 15 minutes before use.

I don't torch the wick at all because of the look though pyrex tank (nice and shiny rope) but do oxidized the mesh before wrap over the rope wick and always have fill screw in , I am not sure if it's right or not but seems to give me really good flavour compare to mesh wick, for the vapor production is 9/10 of mesh wick , I need to spend more times to play with on that. It's so easy wrapping coil now and between 1/4 to 1/3 of ss mesh needed depend on size of rope compare to solid ss mesh wick.

Good one Hoey, well I just put 2.4 7x16 rope in DID #2 had a problem after wrapping mesh, the tank end got badly separated must have got hooked up on my shirt anyway ended up ditching it. The next one I heated up both ends made it a bit stiffer its vaping well but being in a different juice can't really compare but at this stage looking to favour 7x7 time will tell, both are better than straight 500 mesh for sure. Re: 3mm way to thick! don't know how they measured that one will put it away for a rainy day. Both of mine running 0.6 3/2 for 0.9 - 1 Ohm vapour increase of at least 25%, and very little splatter very happy now I will see if I can track down Scotts video on Utube .... cheers
ps in regards to supplier I did try them and they were not too keen on supplying 1m length, maybe I got it wrong.

Does anyone know how long MMV's web site will be down for? I wanted to check stock on a short D20 and it has been offline all day :(

Message from mmv said a few days two days ago, so should be up and running very soon with luck. Upgrading websites can be a bit problematic at times.

Yeah 3.2mm rope is useless as I tried about a month ago got discouraged then put them away! Until you mentioned ss rope.LOL I also find that 7x19 rope get frayed easily.
Tonight I pulled out my perfectly working ss mesh wick from the Gemini, replaced with 2mm 7x7, 2 wraps ss mesh 3/2 0.7 ribbon = 0.8 ohm WITH FILL SCREW IN .......MAD vapor and flavour, I can lay her down and not worry about leakage but she might roll off the table LOL.

Edit: sorry, 4/3 wrap of 0.7 not 3/2!!

Got my 7x19 5/32" ss rope today and set up a coil. I torched it red hot for about 3-4 full minutes. I added a small piece of oxidized 500 mesh to the top for the coil. 3/2 wrap of 0.6 ribbon giving me 0.7Ω. So far, and I've only been using it for 30 minutes, it is wicking great. I don't think a dry hit is possible in any orientation. Ton's of vapor too. It is very tough to cut though. I bought what I thought was a good set of cutters but I'm going back to get a better set! I should have also boiled the wire before torching it. I can almost taste a faint bit of machine oil from it. Not sure if it's just in my mind though as all new set ups taste a bit metallic to me. After an hour or so it usually goes away. I'll boil some rope before making my next set up just to see if it makes a difference.

I got 3.2mm, 2.4mm and 2.0mm. I've only tried the 2.4, which do you like better 2.0 or 2.4?

@Pete54 - I torch and boil all mine. No one can convince me there's not something inside that needs cleaning out...

Right on Pete!!
Mine came in today too. (the kids finally delivered it, I should say). Thanks AB!!!
I washed it in soap and water, and then boiled for 20 minutes.
All was peachy, rosey and singing in the rain.
and then I couldn't find the bolt cutter... or the tape.
Decided to wait til tomorrow after hubbys here and can hunt his tools down for me. No problem, I'll just get out the Flat Ribbon Wire I bought a few months back and play around with that.
Play? Did I say play? It's not play! It's pure frustrating torture. It must be some kind of insider's joke right? I can just see you all sitting there behind your computers laughing so hard you're spitting out your beer. Flat Ribbon Wire on round objects. Come on, Uma, get a clue!
It's going in the dumpster tomorrow right after I push a few duckies into the pond, kick over some rain barrels, and patch up the broken windows.

LOL Burnie, I just read your posts too. I think those guys took me too seriously lol. Thanks for the tips, and I'll try again tomorrow, on the big DID instead of the little Gemini. I didn't even get to try the rope part yet lol. That Flat Ribbon Wire had be flabbergasted beyond words! I thought I was prepared. I pre-asked lots of questions. Oh, it's easy, they said, just make sure you 1/4 turn it so it goes under nice and flat ... OMG... it is NOT easy... unless, of course, you don't mind wire that looks like an on purpose twisted kinked up mess. I now know how poor AG (Duane) felt on his show that night...

I got 3.2mm, 2.4mm and 2.0mm. I've only tried the 2.4, which do you like better 2.0 or 2.4?

2.0mm on Gemini outperformed 2.4mm on the DID d20! Finally I tamed the Gemini WITH FILL HOLE SCREW in using 2.0mm cable.

Edit: Maybe 2.4 in the DID is too long, almost touching the bottom.
