First, I don't want anyone to think I've been playing chickensht here by not posting in Jim's defense, but I'm on a backpacking trip in Europe with my girlfriend and haven't been able to get on the computer since I left 3 weeks ago, but anyways, I should hope that the respect I have for Jim and his work transcends a meager forum posts.

I don't want everyone to spark up this fire again, but I just wanted to repost Dspin's posts to remind everyone here on the DID thread of the general sentiment. But again, enough of that. What needed to be said was said.

Damn glad to hear that you're having good results with the 30g! Dropping the electronic mod in exchange for a solid 3.7v mechanical mod with an MNKE really takes things to a new level.

WOW! Great contribution! This should go in the DID forum index Jim quotes to in post #1. Thank you for this, it'll be a great asset to those struggling with their DIDs :D

Damn thorough review, thanks for taking the time to put it together.

I didn't even know about DID until I saw the other site pre-selling a mini-genesis style rebuildable.
I bought a DID standard, after the fact, I happened to find the DID through a search for a Kir Fanis clear window that I learned about after my Penelope purchase. Which I wanted for the mini-storm genesis. I understand the sadness involved in copycatting I suppose. Still I believe the order of operations in my situation still brought me to a DID :)
I am waiting patiently for the larger size and clear tank DID standard ordered from Jim

Cheers,
Jan G.

Frogster DSLR camera?

I have a DSLR, but this was just a spur of the momment snap using the wifes Nikon Coolpix S1000 Macro, No flash.... sort of did the job, to quickly demonstrate what was needed to the chap I was trying to help, but would have been a lot better if I used my Canon DSLR.

Finally got my DID operational!
Thanks Jim for making this possible.

Here's a pic of my first coil 4/3 32 AWG Kanthal @ 1.7 ohm (it's not the best coil but for me it's working)
Now the way is open to experiment with 30 and 28 AWG Kanthal.

I love my new hobby!!!!

btw: my short DID is now with my friend Emonty, who test it to the bottom:)

Is that the Stainless steel centerpost from jim?

Nice pic and a beautiful coil btw :)

I'm bored now. Got the DID running A1 and so no more tinkering. I'm so bored now I went into the vapeshop (my shed) and wraped 12 x 2.3ohm wick/coils and 12 x 1.8 ohm wick/coil units tried them on my DID and put them all 24 into a box for future use. ( like a years worth).
What can I play with next. My wife's fed up of my hanging around the house!
Any suggestions??

Your trip brings back happy memories of my youth. I grew up in england and spent many weeks hitchhiking through Europe ( it was a safer world back then). Hope you are having fun.

Thank you! I'm having an awesome trip so far! Just took the train from Brugge to Amsterdam this morning, and I've had all afternoon to finally get back on the computer and check the forums and catch up with some friends :D

Update on the 500 mesh.
Uma there was no leakage overnight and I had them all laying on their sides....but I also did the thick wick with almost no center hole. I switched all of them over to the 500 mesh this morning. I have some really thick juices and they are all wicking great. My 200 and 270 mesh is going to get retired I think. I have to wrap that mesh with silica strands because they are impossible (for me) to oxidize well without making them crispy. I will make up some 270 wicks with the silica thread for travelling as they are idiot-proof to set up.
I love your way of thinking, McOverall. :) I think I'll buy some silica thread to toss in my travel bag for those emergency situations where I can't reoxidize my wick or something. Living in Calif, emergency prepping is almost a daily habit, goes without saying. One just never knows when an earthquake will take a bridge out, cover the freeway with massive landslides, huge trees falling across the road... etc. The tip of yours needs to be in every "survivalists" kit.
Great to hear it didn't flood! I realize that mine may be different, the good old YMMV saying, but hearing successful stories helps to settle the what-if's for folks like me. I love this whole idea, and can't wait to play with it too. Thanks for experimenting and analyzing for me, and for those like me who are yet waiting for their materials and courage. :)

Great looking coil and wick.
I'll second that! Very nice indeed!! And good for you for drawing that diagram of the coiling (Mickey Mouse ears, luv it!) for a newbie to grasp the concept. I truely believe the DIDers are the most helpful, caring, generous posters on all the forums everywhere. :vapor:

yes it's all Stainless steel now!
previous I had the bass centerpost, but it turned black-blue-greenish, got worried because I don't want to vape heavy metals

thanks for your comment abt the pic and coil, that was my first coil.
just a few moments ago I installed a SS wick (400 mesh) with no center hole in it to eliminate gravity and to increase cappilary forces.

Is that the Stainless steel centerpost from jim?

Nice pic and a beautiful coil btw :)

Looks great frog and your excellent diagram too, thanks from all of us for posting

Thanks Uma....

I was helping someone out on a UK thread today and quickly made up that graphic... I then had to teardown a perfectly good coil to wrap a new one and take a photo to show them what it should look like.... I then vaped a full tank of my fav juice with it, and then took a second photo of the coil dryburning, to show even glow without hotspots.

I attach them here if it helps anyone.... please excuse the wet and dirty state of the DID, but it is in use constantly, also the second pic is a bit blurred as it's hard to focus and take the pic with one hand and fire the coil with the other.
