Can anyone help me get the best out of DID with my lavatube v1?
I am in the process of either ordering a Zmax or an all mechanical mod, possibly the Siam Mods Cube or Hex 18650 & any advice or feedback on these mods in combination with the DID would be greatly appreciated.
But back to the current issue, my feeble Lavatube V1.
At the moment I have a 3 wrap Kanthal 32g coil on my DID(no shorts or hotspots), and the lavatube just doesn't seem to get it cooking. I had a 4 wrap "twisted" Kanthal 32g coil previous to that and that was pretty decent on my 650 & 1000 mah egos believe it or not, but it was anemic on the Lavatube. Last night I fried the switch/electronics in my 1000mah ego dry burning my coils on the DID  as a result I'm relying more on the Lavatube now and this is where my main question comes in:
"HOW MANY WRAPS,OR WHAT COIL SET-UP CAN I USE TO GET THE MOST POWER OUT OF THE LAVATUBE V1?"
I am not shouting:cry:, just can't believe how feeble this mod is, especially after the voltage on the 18650 starts to drop off. I am using the standard batteries that came with it, I understand they are generic IMR 18650's.
I know the LT V1 has a 2-2.5 Amp limit, doesn't like dual cores & limits output when it approaches 2.5 Amps but REALLY!!

Congratz! Newport beach has an amazing recovery scene out there! I actually got sober in Orange. Lotta good memories at the Newport Alano Club, Canyon Club, and Friday night campfire meetings. Also a few less fun, but equally memorable times at meetings at Charlie street.

Yeah buddy, you pretty much just called, at least at one point in time, my schedule. Your up in la right? I hear you guys have some great ones. We get some speakers down here pretty often, some of them seem pretty hard core tho. Anyways congrats again and thanks for that tutorial video. I've now got at least my mini pumpin vapor. .9 ohm on a p+ 18500

Studiovape,

You have found the limitations of the Lavatube V1, sorry, but thats it, there is no getting away from them, keep it as a back up and upgrade.

I can reccomend the Cube, I use a 18650+V2 with a kick installed, the kick limits it a little if you are after very high wattage above 10 watts for example, but the build, quality, etc is 100% and it will last you 2 lifetimes.... you build up biceps quick as it is heavy!

+++++=10 on that - all mechanical is the way to go IMO - add MNKE IMR 18650 or AW IMR 18650 1600 and your all set

Thanks Frogster & dspin, I thought as much about the LT, but was just hoping
The reason for the ZMAX/CUBE choice is more about availability down here in Oz, both are available locally,(dam my impatience!).
The ZMAX is cheaper though and has flashing lights and menus & sub menus.....:p
It is going to be used with the DID and the other DIDs that will be on their way as soon as my bank balance recovers from economy of not smoking those expensive cigarettes:?:
If money was no object I would just get both the mechanical & the ZMAX, and although I'm leaning towards the Cube mechanical, I really would love to hear about anyone using a VMAX or a ZMAX with their DID before I hit buy.
As far as the batteries for it I have to say dspin the MNKE IMR 18650 seem awesome, although they aren't available in Australia yet, to my knowledge, and the shipping does add up when you get a part from here and a part from there,I'm pretty sure the AW IMR 18650 1600's are locally available though.
I've just set up my member verification application so maybe I'll head to the classifieds for a browse,
yay more temptation!

Studiovap. The way to get the most out of an amp limited device is to make sure your coils are higher ohm. If you use 32 awg kanthal and make a 5/4 wrap, you should be around 2.8Ω. At that reading you can turn the voltage up to 5.6 volts which would draw 2.0 amps and provide you with 11.2 watts of power. That should be enough to provide you with a more than acceptable vape.

Pete54, I thank you,DID thanks you, I am out of bl***y Kanthal though, (more on the way probably by snail mail), but I might try one of my old coils I set aside with 6wraps and revive it.
This forum really is the home of hope & knowledge
Still in the market for a new mod, but will try this for now, thanks again Pete

Find a ohms law calculator, I have one on my iPhone but there are plenty of them on the internet. They have 4 inputs only two of which are required, the other two are computed. Much quicker than doing the math. To find the best set up just plug in ur current limit lets say 2.5 amps and max voltage lets say 6 and it will pop out the resistance to shoot for and the power output or wattage. So in that example you would want a 2.4 ohm coil witch would give u 15 watts at 6 volts. You could obviously dial it down from there but that resistance would give you the widest range of power for a 2.5 amp limited 3-6 volt type device

Thanks Benc, great advice for all early Lavatube victims.

I own 2 vmaxes and a zmax is en route to me. I use the DID almost exclusively on the v's. I find the combination provides for an exceptional vape and the ability to adjust voltage and see the coil resistance at the press of a button are indispensable conveniences for me.

I caution that due to the PWM power delivery of the max's they will not tolerate anything less than a perfect wick/coil setup, therefore it can be very frustrating to get right particularly if you're an RBA beginner. The PWM makes these devices extremely sensitive to hot spots and shorts. If you're good at eliminating these the power of the max's with a good DID setup can be very rewarding. If you're not, these devices will represent a nightmare, at least in the beginning. As good as I've become making wicks and coils, I still have my bad moments with these devices but for me, they're worth it.
