That really is awesome! The only other one I've seen is Ragman's (at the Pit). He modified the refill hole.
It would be great to be able to order one like this, like Rick mentioned. I'm sure Jim's been thinking on it for awhile now...

You sir, are epic. Let's see an ultra fat U-wick in there next! I've always dreamed about making a modification like this to one of my DIDs, but I don't have a drill press and I've never taken the initiative to take it to a machine shop to have it done professionally. Now that I've seen how beautifully yours came out, I think I'm going to make a trip down to a local shop to see what they can do for me.

I was not getting notifications of these posts...
I have been a carpenter for 20 yrs. I did this with a 18v cordless drill and a set of vise grips with rubber bands on it to protect the threads. No drill press needed. Just a steady hand.

My gf is 2 houres away from you so its possible to get it to you, might take awhile to but if you would be willing i gladly take you up on the offer.

I would be more than happy to do this for you.

I asked him to do it first. I sent him a drawing. He respectfully declined. So I told him I would do it and send him the pics. He was anxious to see them. I'm sure he will.

I just modded my other DID. I will get the pics up in a few. I put the wicks at polar opposite positions, with only 1 negative screw. Both coils run off of 1 neg post.
I put the whole thing together with #635 wicks, 30 ga coils at 1Ω total! I got it perfect and went to put juice in it, and I forgot to drill a fill hole.
So it's going to be a little while so I can break it down and drill a fill/breather hole.

One hole is enough for me.

I don't care if there are more holes, but I would then want the possibility to close the extra holes when not in use.

Ahhh. Now you are thinking. 2 wick holes, 2 neg screws, dual wicks, U wicks.....
Options are endless. And you know in 2013, Jim will be thinking.

Will there be a "set" (like Temon) that has all the tubes?


Simplest breakdown looks like "Shirt" and "Pant Tube" = Satin, everything else =Polished to get that awesome alternating look?

I'd love to have all polished accents with satin tube parts with all 3 sized tubes. And then in January, same thing with Brass accents and Polished tubes (all sizes). ugh, so many choices causes indecision...

OK here is #2. This is all I have, so this will be the last. There is still room for more holes....

This is the only way to wrap coils. I use a drill bit upside down. We know the name but it's not appropriate in here.

Here's a good shot of the layout. (except now there is a fill hole)

Here's the final side view. I was able to remove both wicks and coils all at once to drill the fill hole. Then drop the assembly back in place and tighten screw and nut. Its all 1 wire.
