Uma, glad yours is close as I was feeling guilty about enjoying mine so much when you didn't have yours ( No Miriam, I didn't mean it that way!!!). That polished brass is beautiful, I just got some Sharkhide polish in a co-op and would be glad to send some your way if you like to keep it all beautiful.
That is the sweetest ever, thank you! I just might take you up on your offer. I haven't even thought about polishing stuff yet.
Ahhh, don't feel guilty!! I lived vicariously through all of you, and believe it or not, it was lots of fun doing so!
The beauty of the brass? I can change it out with a new set if/when it tarnishes badly. I'll never be "stuck" with a bad looking suit on my Poldiac. :) (and, who knows, maybe I'll luck out with a cool patterned tarnish).
With that said, ... I'd love to take you up on your offer! I'll Pm you for the details, how much for how much, etc. I've never used sharkskin before, is it a wipe on, wipe off, like Mother's chrome stuff?
Thanks so much!!!!

Not me. She tortured me with the roller for months !

Tony

LOL, it was my pleasure, Tony. :D

Glad you got it working well.

Uma covered a lot of it (wick ~1mm off bottom of tank, even or shorter than top of center post). I'd guess if your wick is getting bent it's too tall as the top cap chamber is cut a little taller than the center post.

I figured it out. I was having contact issues so I was unscrewing my DID and it was a bit tight so I accidentally unscrewed the top portion.

Great thing about a mechanical mod is when you have issues there are only a handful of issues it could be. Most of which you can easily fix. I love the whole problem solving aspect of it. Switched from the top to bottom button and back twice today just for practice.

You did not tight enough the positive pole so it goes around easy by the screw of Poldiac

Jim I had to back off the positive post on the DID because if it was tightened all the way down the positive post on the Poldiac would not make contact even with the post unscrewed almost all the way.

I used to collect vintage port but have stopped a few years ago, it became too expensive a hobby ;-). I still have some nice bottles in their own wooden cases, one 1924, a few 1977 lots of 1985's etc. I drank the 1904 with my mom on her deathbed and we both enjoyed it very much, like angels dancing on our tongues.[/QUOTE]

That is so special ! there is nothing better than sharing with love ones your passion. I know what you mean dancing angels indeed!:toast:

Word to the wise. Keep Rick's video handy when you take apart the switch to clean the contacts! I guess I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer because I couldn't get it back together without watching the video and going step by step! Now, when NatGasMan said the Poldiac hit harder after he cleaned the contacts, I thought it was probably all in his head. I was wrong again! (or it's all in my head too) I used the glass bowl/aluminum foil/baking soda method and it works just dandy!

I don't understand the need for this cleaning on brand new units. How do the contacts get dirty or tarnished so quickly? And what little bit they might get, how could it possibly effect performance that much?

My totally uninformed opinion would say that different metals in contact w each other cause a chemical reaction that "tarnishes" the contacts. Once this build up occurs there is a great loss of conductivity.

I need to figure out how to add an index at the start of the video that lets you click a link which will take you to the exact part you're trying to reference.
As for the difference cleaning your contacts makes....in my opinion, it's practically night or day! A $200 mechanical mod won't hit much better than an Ego if your contacts have gone to sht, so it's vital to regularly maintain them in order to keep it performing at maximum efficiency. In addition to the contacts themselves, it is also important to focus on upkeeping the spring, the ID of the spring housing in the bottom cap, and ALL of the threads: 510 connector (both on the atty and in the top cap), button housing/battery tube threads, and bottom cap/battery tube threads. The junction between threads is an extremely important aspect of the closed circuit in mechanical mods, and it's also probably the most neglected. The threads are what completes the ground connection, so if they're dirty, the sum series resistance of the circuit will increase, the current to the coil will be inhibited, and then ultimately, the device won't hit as hard and you won't blow as big of clouds.
Clean contacts/threads=big clouds. Big clouds=happy Rick.

Call me paranoid, but I clean everything I get new (admission of guilt: I used my Poldiac without cleaning for a couple days ))

Sometimes it's just manufacturing dust/oil, normal stuff. In this case, I think the silver plating hits like a bear but also tarnishes quicker. It still works fine after a week, two weeks, but when you clean the contacts it's like "WOW" all brand new, didn't know what I was missing kind of thing...

You can right click on the search bar and "Copy URL at current time" then paste start time of each part in the video information page. It looks slick and is easy to navigate. ;)
