Sometimes the brain just needs a mandatory "timeout"

It sure does! well time has come for a complete strip search and clean for Poldiac. But before I do this I need to be ready for glueing magnet if it comes off, what kind of glue did you use for the job? contact cement, super glue?

You still haven't. Wow.
My Gemini top cap kept getting locked on. Lube those threads!

Tony
Oh that's right! I'll try to remember to lube. thx for the reminder!
It hits intermittently, so I'm using it, but until it's cleaned I also use my BAM and Roller...
I'll brave it today...
now what was that glue? Super glue liquid?

Hey there Didfidites
Yesterday I removed all contacts from the Poldiac. I started w an alum lined bowl with baking soda and water. Nothing happened after 15 mins. Then I full dried and rinsed. Used just BS in my hand for 5 mins. Nothing happened. Then I used alum foil and dry BS. Again no change. They are clean, but its not hitting anywhere near when it was new. Is the cream colored coating the silver? Both My small screw heads are a silver color now.

Im sure this is user error, so help this user please. :)

Mine are still ok. there was enough of the factory adhesive left to hold it in place. I think some used Gorilla Glue and some used Super Glue Gel, both roughed up the Delrin first to ensure adhesion (etched lightly with razor blade or sand paper)

My flat ribbon wire finally arrived from Germany yesterday too. I hope to try it by the end of the week. Fun fun! :)

Headsup! Shinyitis is contagious. My daughter's cupboards are now filled with new shiny pots and pans. She said "I don't know what happened! We were in a hurry, walking through Costco, when something bright and shiny caught my eye..... "

Ken, make sure you are using very hot water.
I get my foil lined cup ready with the baking soda, then I microwave a couple of ounces of water in a mug for 45 seconds and pour it in. Hot water is VERY important! It sounds like you don't really have any tarnish on the parts though because they should look cream colored as yours do. Might just be a loose positive connection causing your problem.

I did not use hot water... The cream color only remains on the parts that dont contact anything, or much. The rest is silver, aluminum colored where the cream is gone.

Thanks for the info

I do the paste. It works well. Make a thick paste and rub in fingers. Rinse in warm water bowl. Use small qtip to get in. Mine look more skinny too. I find when I need to push the button hard to fire time to clean. Or do like uma. Wait for miss fire. :) and the dont clean it. Lol. Just talk about it. Lol.

Hey Pete, I think that's a good point. I've had a couple times I thought I'd need to clean but didn't see any tarnish so just jiggled everything (including twisting the battery spring) around and was good to go for another week.

I've been using just dry baking soda in the palm of my hand and rubbing/twisting the pieces 1 by 1 and then I faucet rinse and dip in PGA to dry instantly. They've all polished to a really nice "shiny" silver color, they're only dull in the beginning because thats what electroplating looks until it's polished.

OK now that makes sense. I didnt think the cream color that comes off so easy was the 15 micron layer. :)
