very new to this scene. smoked for about 27 years and quit 6 months back. ive been smoking some cheap ecigs during that time from a local gas station, no brand on them. they are the kind that come with a battery, usb adapter and 2 cartridges to start. then you can buy boxes of 5 cartridges there after. im not satisfied with them really as they sell out of the highs alot or i get duds in the box. i am looking to switch over to an ecig that you can get different juice for. alot of the terminology is very different to me and i need to figure out just what i need to get going. this should prove to be a very different experience but i think i will like it alot better than these cheap ones ive been getting and to top it off it should be cheaper.

Welcome to the forum!

A good basic kit is an ego. Cost at Liberty Flights with a 20% discount is $29.99. Riva batteries last 7+ hours and you get an excedllent vape. Good company, good warranty. Get a box of boge cartomizers, juice from a good juice vendor and you're good to go!

This is a very nice basic kit you can add to. At a later time, you can purchase a bigger battery, tanks, different types of cartomizers. But with this kit and a box of cartomizers, you can drip juice onto your atomizer, use cartridges and atomizer, or cartomizers (cart & atty combined). It's a great kit to test out juice too.

It's reasonable so if you want, you could always get a different kit down the road or buy accessories for it and you haven't spent a lot. Save your money for all the juice you'll buy!

Welcome to ECF and grats on kicking the analog (real cigarette) habit

The ECF Library

This should be your first stop, take the time and read 6 stickies at the top (Wonderful World of Vaping), tons of information there. Part of getting into vaping is spending a little time to do some research in order to save yourself money in the long run. That and you get to learn a whole new language.

Everyone has given solid info. Heres another, that I would buy even owning 32 of the most popular mods. hoosiersecigsupply has a kit called the Kgo, its very similar to an ego kit, but pretty complete. The difference is that the Kgo kit is $45 but has an 1100 mah battery which will last a couple of days for a medium vapor, a full day for a power vapor. 1100 milleamphousr compared to 650mah on the cheaper ego kits. I have 2 ego kits, bought before the 1100mah batteries were available...either one makes for a nice kit with some good ejuice which hoosiers has available and some cartomizers, I use the clear double coil carts from hoosiers. Hope this helps...

Congrats on quitting! Something I have yet to do. Thought I was going to, can't use the carts I bought yet. Working on that prob now. I too want to try flavors. Now, I only checked out their page, and haven't bought anything, nor am I associated with them, but that Johnson Creek place looked pretty good, and I have seen some nice compliments here on the forums. I think I'm going to stop back there.

If you want something slim then the two most popular are Joye 510 manual (180mah or 280mah, see LiteCigUSA.net and Liberty-Flights.com) and KR808D-1 manual (180/220mah and 280/320mah - the Vapor4Life model manuals have an easier button, SmokelessImage Volt manuals have a tiny button but claim the longer battery charge). The 150 has mainly blank cartomizers, the KR808D-1 has prefilled and blank but for testing juices you need to add an atomizer (DSE901) and drip tip (carts, not drip tip if you didn't buy manual batteries)

If you want LONG battery charge and the ability to use the hotter low resistance atomizer and cartomizers, lokk at Liberty-Flights.com (press the 20% off first) and see Ego and Riva 510. Or look into mods elsewhere (various shapes with industrial batteries that come out the way a flashlight's batteries come out).

Heres what I recommend:

From liberty-flights.com (click the 20% discount in upper left)
riva lite kit - 29.99
510 driptip of your choosing - ~$2
5 pack Boge LR (2.0 ohm) cartomizers - $7.99

This lets you try dripping and boge cartomizers, also includes cartridges but cartridges suck.

Start with quality juices, I don't buy bargain juices anymore, not worth it imo except as a backup. I'd recommend pinkspotvapors for non-menthol juices and I'd recommend rawrvapor for menthol juices.

If you like the Boge cartos, you can get 15 for $20 and free shipping @ crystalclearvaping.com

wow, thanks everyone for the welcome and advice. ill have to read on to understand some of the terminology such as cartomiser and drip tips and dripping and such. for me so far its been screw a cartridge on a battery and smoke til its gone, lol.
i did a little reading and saw a thread where it says people who are starting out should avoid the tobbaco flavor such as marl.
ive known a little about the juices for a bit but never tried them...often wondered if i could get it and put some in the spent cartridges i have for this cheapo one. i also read that it is hard to estimate what mg you will want to start with. i always smoked full flavors at about a pack and a half and the stronger the better for me.
i am big into aquariums and fish and recently met a guy on one of my fish forums that is a distributer for dfw vapor...anyone know about them? seems i can get all i need to get started for like 65 bucks and that includes 30 ml of a juice of my choice and i think a big ego thingy. i just wonder if 30 ml will last a month???? hard to say right?

You've been using a pre-filled cartomizer, aka carto. A carto combines the atomizer (atty) with the cartridge. That would be a two piece system, consisting of 1. battery 2. carto. The other way is with an atomizer and cartridge. That would be a three piece system, consisting of 1. battery 2. atomizer 3. cartridge.

Sounds like a good start. What flavors are you getting? You may want to get two completely different flavors. I thought that I would prefer the tobacco flavors over the other flavors. (It wasn't the case.) What I'm getting at is that you won't know what flavors you will like until you have tried them out. Also, if you don't like the flavor now, it doesn't mean that you will not like that same flavor a couple of months later. Good Luck!

this sound about right to everyone?

I'd get an extra battery too, if I was you, in my opinion.
