hello everyone, it’s pretty cool to see there’s a vape forum. I’m not new to vaping, been doing it on and off since 2008 or so (used to smoke back then too), but been consistent for the past 3 years or so. Until recently I was vaping pen style ecigs. They were satisfying enough. Then early last year I bought me a smok V8 baby stick and loved that thing. Loved the vapor it produced (with the right coils, it was a pain finding the right one) and stuck with it for a few months. Then the battery started to wear out so I decided it was a good time to finally try a mod. Ended up buying a Smok AL85 and really liked it...while it worked.

Two months later, I noticed my battery life declining. It seemed the battery lasted less and less, and mind you I’ve been cycling two batteries, and I charge my batteries on a separate charger. Now it doesn’t vape at all. I get either a check battery message, or low battery. One thing I noticed is how much voltage the mod is seeing even with a fully changed battery. I’m reading 2.5-2.8 volts, when it should be at least 3.5. Is there a firmware update that might fix this? Or should I bring it to the store since the mod is still under its 90 day warranty?

Howdy and welcome
Your batteries are definitely won out and under normal circumstances they shouldn’t wear out that fast. Batteries with that much sag in them are dangerous.
My guess is your circumstances are not normal
Are you charging batteries with a charger or through the micro USB port?
Do you vape while your mod is plugged in?
What brand and model are the batteries?

Yep, take it back and try to get something other than Smok. I have Smok products but they are not as reliable as other brands. Eleaf puts out a similar product, Pico 75w or Pico 25(which means it holds a larger sized tank and goes to 80W). I have both since they first came out and still going strong, unlike my Smok batteries.

Thanks guys. Yes I have a stand-alone charger for my batteries. My batteries are Efest 3000mah, and I also have two Samsung batteries 2700mah that’s for my wife’s Revenger mod (which is much better than mine) but I tried them all and they all had the same issue.

Just came back from the store and it was confirmed that the mod was shorted. Apparently I chain-vape and ended up overheating it, the clerk recommended a two battery mod upgrade lol. Thanks for the advice guys and the warm welcome!

Welcome!! Sorry you had problems with your mod. I see so many posts with troubles from that manufacturer. I know I wouldnt buy one even though some are really sweet looking. I just bought the Revenger X and use the Revenger mini as my backup. Both have incredible flavor regardless of coil I also bought the Sense V Jet also a good setup but not as good as the Revenger.

I'm a big fan of the dual battery mods.

It opens up a ton of choices.

My new one is doing good on its second day. I might have to buy higher resistance coils so I can run lower wattage. Right now I have a .15ohm cool and I’m running at at 75 watts which is ten watts lower than the maximum for this mod. I remember trying a .4ohm but it was tasteless.

Something tells me that you should at least understand ohm's law in order to vape at a safe level.....Chain vaping alone would not short out your mod. Maybe you were using coils with ohm's that the single battery could not handle on the Smok mod?

Since this is your first 2 battery mod, you should at least check to see if they can handle that load.
Just because the wattage on the mod itself goes to a certain number does not mean it is safe to run coils at that level. The coils and ohm, mass etc determines what is a safe wattage to vape at.

Actually that coil is a little low for your battery. Didn't you say you have an Efest 3000mah?

Ah thank you! My other battery is a Samsung 2700mah also 3.7V. I’m gonna try a .25ohm coil when I can. I remember liking that one but my vape shop is usually out of those so I’m stuck with .15 or .4 which I find flavorless.
