I've got no idea what kind of budget you have or what kind of mod you're searching for then, but what i can say is that i've been using an aspire evo75 (nx75) goes up to duh 75 watts lolz but does temp control and all that jazz had this baby for over a month and i love it small has a nice weight to it and a bright af screen. I've heard it costs about 100$ but i'm more than sure you can get it cheaper (i'm in canada and canadian prices are crap tbh)
That one looks good. I was also looking at the Aspire Zelos mod (goes up to 50w) with a Nautilis 2 tank. I was watching a Mike Vape review on YouTube. That any good?

NEVER EVER judge a mod by watching reviews on youtube most of these are paid promotion. It's a nice way to get a feel of what the mod can do and what it looks like etc but i'd go into a vape shop (if at all possible) and ask them.
I do know the nautilus 2 is a mtl tank (no sub 0hm) so if you wanted to sub 0hm wrong tank. On another hand i've heard quite alot of positive from that naut 2, i had the original 5ml one and was more than happy with it. Mods don't matter as much as tank imho whatever mod you choose will probably do the trick it mostly depends on what kind of experience you want, (mtl,dtl- sub 0hm or above). Overall though i do think the zelos+naut 2 is a nice first good setup for mouth to lung inhales (basically like smoking a cigarette)

So I went to my vape store and he put my tank on his mod, his tank on mine, did a few tests and felt the juice I was using was rubbish. I bought some new and a new coil and last night all excited I primed the coil with the new juice and put it all together and now have a solid red light on the fire button. I looked up the issue and apparently it's a dodgy coil.

Possible but rare - a coil that kicks a mod into protection is one in many thousands.
A coil which tastes bad or doesn't wick well is more common, but still far more rare than people make out. I've not had a 'bad coil' since 2013 and that's using 100-150 coils per year.

The basic problem might still exist though that with no control over the power, you might just burn it out in minutes.

People will tell you to rebuild... sure you can rebuild, but saving money isn't the only reason for some people rebuilding unless we all want to pretend smokers can't afford 20 or 30 pence a day on a premade factory coil.

Incidentally, the Zelos is a very nice little mod (I don't even like Aspire to be honest).
The Nautilus 2 tank is not quite getting A* reports (shame) but should be a more reliable sort of tank with a variable watt (and TC) mod.

You could of course just ignore the tank and just get a mod. Depends - sometimes tanks are almost free when you buy a kit.
I bought a kit not long ago - the tank was horrible and then the mod proved poor on the battery life.
You have to be so careful what you buy.
I also got an NX75 for peanuts too (all these things were in the TPD sales)... that's OK. I just have an issue with accidentally switching to TC mode.

I have that exact setup, the Nautilus 2 is primarily a MTL tank but it does come with a 0.7 coil, which is technically subohming, though you can still use it MTL with the correct wattage and airflow. I bought the zelos for my backup mod and because I happen to love the Nautilus 2, and it's very light, reliable, and user friendly. I happen to love aspire products, however. I don't use it as my primary setup, mainly because it has a USB port rather than internal, rechargeable batteries, but I certainly like it enough that I use it from time to time around the house to vary flavors and whatnot. I've been pleased with its performance so far, and then you have the option of trying both tanks on it and seeing which you prefer. That said, if you are doing MAJOR sub-ohming, I would expect frequent recharging, which will eventually wear out the battery. Aspire products seem pretty reliable to me and I'm hard on equipment, so when that point may come, I cannot say. Can't beat the size/ability to TC if you want/variable wattage, and I'd recommend a Nautilus 2 to anyone who was remotely interested... :)

You do know you can lock the device so it dosen't switch modes by itself right :p I do that all the time + i use the stealth mode. I do disagree on aspire products though as i feel smok are the worst i've had 1 issue with my original nautilus which was leaking but quickly fixed it with a simple google search and couple of minutes trying different solutions. Not saying they're perfect either (obviously) i just so happen to like aspire more than i do smok imho (even if i have a BBB tank ahah).

No - tell me what you know about the lock, that'd help.

When it comes to Smok, I am at the back of the queue so no disagreement there.

I tried lots of liquids at the weekend and this year, at Vapefest, the Smok Stick V8 was popular for trial/testers.
They have come along way and to a certain extent - fair play to them, but reliability is often my #1 thing, so in that case, Aspire should be better, I agree.

(Going to shops now... no food!! argh.....)

Press the w and + button at the same time and hold you should see a lock on screen :p
For stealth mode 3 quick clicks of the fire button and to completely lock it 5 clicks (gonna guess you knew about that last one since that step is necessary to turn it off). You can change the logo at the top too but i can't remember how though but it's written in the manual (in fact everything is in it lol)
