Hey everybody. I actually found the forum while searching for info on the new ecig I bought today. I've been on Chantix over a month and I'm still smoking as much as ever. The wife and I decided maybe I should give these ecigs a try. I went to our local smoke shop and bought a Bulldog with 3 cartridges, charger and battery for $28. After reading some on the forum I guess it's a 4081 battery and that I can get the cartridges (cartos, right?) that I can refill myself? I went to a couple of the links I saw listed in threads and I see a lot of flavors and such. Since I have an infant daughter and a boy on the way (March 20th!) I've decided to work towards being cigarette free. Can anyone give tips/tricks? I don't have a lot of money to play around with, but on payday I'm planning on setting aside a little each week to get supplies ($30-40).

Thanks in advance!

I'm not familiar with the Bulldog, or the 4081. Is it a 3-piece type with a battery, atomizer and cartridge? Or is it just two pieces? If it's two pieces, then the second part is called the cartomizer.

If it is a two-piece, learn how to re-fill the cartomizers. There are plenty of videos on Youtube to help you out. Which of course means you need to buy e-liquid. Mt. Baker Vapor and ECBlend have good prices. They're the only ones I've ever used, so I can't recommend others.

You will burn through atomizers. I get about 2 weeks out of an atomizer, sometimes less. Cartomizers are atomizers with the filling inside, btw. I too only have about $40.00 every two weeks for vaping, so it can be done on the cheap. $40.00 covers my vaping necessities for a month, which leaves me a second paycheck to try out new things or stock up.

You will need a second battery, possibly more. I like the little batteries a lot, but you'll be lucky to get 3 hours out of one before it needs to be recharged. If you're not uncomfortable using a push-button battery about the diameter of a cigar then check out the Katana Kit from Vape Dojo. You get a battery that'll last about 6 hours for $13.00 plus shipping.

Check out ValueVapor for more supplies. They have the lowest prices I've been able to find.

Good luck!

RPackerII,

You may find like so many others, myself included that the drugs, patches, lozenges, gum, and lots of other things just do not work for a lot of people. Vaping got me off of cigarettes and I hope it can help you do the same. The big thing you'll find that can be tough is that you will need to find what works for you. Vaping is considerably different from smoking while emulating a lot of the things we do when smoking it takes some getting used to. Taking vaper into your mouth alone will provide nicotine. You can inhale into your lungs if you wish but it isn't required. Taking the vaper into your mouth and then inhaling may be more comfortable at first.

I am not familiar with your equipment but don't pass judgement on vaping with that equipment alone. The amazing thing about vaping is that just as there are so many different opinions about what people like there are nearly that many options available to you. This may be overwhelming but this forum can be a great help.

You've taken a great first step and educating yourself will make things go more smoothly. I don't think you'll have a problem staying within your budget. Just like so many things, you can spend a fortune if you want to but you can do very well on the budget you have stated.

Also some links:
discountvapers.com has great prices on equipment and I've used them and can recommend them.
Crystal Clear Vaping and MadVapes are also good venders.
Heather's Heavenly Vaper has some great tobacco flavors if you like those.
Ecblends has great juices.

Take your time and enjoy the ride!

FIRST of all, let me say this, do NOT stress yourself out about the switch to vaping. The whole idea of vaping is harm reduction, stress itself is harmful to you, and stressing out about vaping will make you want to smoke. Don't worry about it. You don't have to be one of those people that immediately switch to vaping. Don't count the cigarettes you have, count the cigarettes you DON'T have. That's them most wisdom I have ever heard in the vaping world, no idea who said it first.

I only say this because when I started making a concious decision to switch to vaping, every time I broke down and smoked, I felt bad, which caused me to smoke even more. Don't do that to yourself.

You've been smoking for awhile (I assume) so if you smoke while you make the transition to vaping it's not a big deal, just releax and try to make vaping a positive in your life, not something that causes stress and guilt whenever you slip up and smoke.

Now that I've got that out of the way:

If you want a cigalike (something that's close to a cig in form) the Smoov and Volt are probably the best units you'll find. Njoy makes a product called the Njoy King, which in my (and MANY other's) opinion is the most cigarette like device you will ever find. The thing is soft, not hard metal, it's light weight, and the flavor and feeling you get is incredibly close to a real cigarette. The juice used in the high-strength (robust) is 45mg which will really satisfy those cig cravings.

The problem with them, is that they are $8 each and only last a few hours of heavy vaping. Not something you will likely use as your main vape, but it's something to keep around incase you really want a cig and your current vape just isn't doing it for you.

If you don't mind stepping up to a larger device, the eGos are a great middle ground. They are about the size of a medium cigar. They will be able to provide more power and battery capacity to whatever atty/carto you are using. In my experience they'll last longer than the cigalike batteries too.

A Smoov or Volt with cartos is a great device for the cigalike crowd, an Ego with some cartos will be good for someone just getting out of the cigalike form. Obviously there are some much higher performance and higher quality units out there, but I'd imagine you don't feel comfortable getting into those at this point, which is perfectly fine. Don't get vapers envy, you do not need the newest device to provide you with a quality vape.

It's just like cars, gettting from an 18 second car to a 16 second car is MUCH easier than gettting from a 10 second car to an 8 second car. You aren't missing as much as you might think.

Basically, whatever works for you is the best device. If you like cigalikes, get a Smoov or a Volt, if you don't mind going a big bigger get an eGo. If you want to go even bigger as time goes on, then cross that bridge when you come to it.

Good luck friend, I wish you the best!

Thank you all for the info!

I've been smoking around 20 years now. I was a firefighter/EMT so I'm sure I've inhaled much worse than cigarettes (that's the lie I've told myself for many years anyway). Time to start quitting.

Reading some of the info in a thread I saw the Volt from Smokeless Image. I was thinking of two batteries, cartomizers and trying out different fluids.

As far as the Bulldog ingredients it doesn't say. I can take pics of the starter kit packaging and the refill cartridge packaging. Well, the little light just turned green so here we go.

My vape budget is only slightly higher than yours. About 50-60 per week (my old cigarette budget). But I only spend 20-30 on many weeks, and sometimes, nothing at all. You'll hit a point in your supplies when you don't need anything for a week or 3. Once, that is, you get the gear that works for you and stock up slowly but surely. It took me about 3 months to get to that point, but that was also because I made a few mistakes and bought things that wouldn't work for me.

Vaping did get me off cigarettes, and fairly quickly/easily once I got a setup that worked. Here's the thing: those "cigalikes" didn't work for me. At all. I went through 3 different kits before I finally broke down and allowed myself to vape something that didn't look like a cigarette.

So my suggestion is to get an eGo Twist or Spinner kit. Buy some Kanger clearomizers (T2s or T3s) to go with it. Get some quality e-juice (there's several vendors out there that get a ton of hype here for good reasons. Some with pretty good prices too. HHV and Mt Baker have a high quality for the price quotient). It might be a bit of an initial hit to your budget, but not too big of one. And it'll pay for itself over time. Once you quit smoking entirely, your break even point comes fast if you don't go buy happy.

After a while, you'll notice you have more supply than you need for the next week or 2. Then you can either really start saving, or start saving for something new. :)

Congratulations on your decision to switch to vaping. You are doing a good thing for yourself and your family.

Sweet-Vapes have good prices on fat batteries and,,,DiscountVapers - Your source for savings on electronic cigarettes and accessories, Go-go eGo, vGo for Kanger T3 clearomizers if you should decide to go with something bigger.

Everyone is different and what works for me might not work for you. I got really tired of recharging pen type batteries and constantly refilling cartomizers...so I went bigger. The T3 clearomizers hold a lot of liquid and you can replace the coil for around $2.50 instead of buying a whole new clearomizer. That saves some money.

Best of luck on whatever you decide to use and vape on.

Chantix helped me quit smoking a couple of times but I eventually quit taking it and started smoking again. It got rid of the physical nicotine withdrawals so all I had to get over was the mental habit. Chantix should still be taking some if not most of your physical nicotine cravings away. It also prevents the physical euphoria you get from smoking. You shouldn't be getting that nicotine rush from cigarettes like you used to and the e-cigs will be the same if you're still taking the Chantix. I say this in hopes that you won't give up on e-cigs to quickly just because you don't feel any affects from them.

When I switched to vaping I was not taking Chantix. I was smoking a pack of light cigarettes at 14mg nicotine strength a day. Then one day a friend offered me his vaporizer. I took 10-12 hits at 24mg nicotine strength and I was craving that stuff for the next 3 hours. My light analogs couldn't quench it. So, I started with vaping at 18mg nicotine strength a day to ensure that I would find vaping more physically attractive than smoking. It worked and I'm still hooked. I think matching the same amount of nicotine intake is important if you're switching over. You want to find something that you can switch your physical cravings to. Although, with the Chantix I believe it could be more of a mental craving than a physical one.

For me, a big part of smoking was that 5 minutes of quite time I had to myself outside every hour or so. It re-energized me in more ways than one. This was some of the mental part that I "needed" but had to get over. I still go outside by myself sometimes when I vape but the amount of time spent at this has been reduced. E-cigs make it easier to get your fix wherever/whenever but I suggest that you keep the same habits as when you smoked until you find that you no longer need them.

Good luck :)

My experience with Chantix was bad. I didn't really notice a difference in my cravings or habit but I did become very "mean". I am typically difficult to anger. I had severe temper issues while taking Chantix and lost my temper with an inanimate object in front of my kids one time which embarrassed me and scared my kids.

If you have a smaller budget I would recommend the Ego twist in 900 mah size. It is usually the second step people take after they realize they hate the frequent charging required from the cig look a likes. It will last you about 6 hours on a charge rather than 2 hours on those little batteries. if you think the cig form factor is really important for you to be successful in making the switch than maybe get 4 batteries so you have extra vaping power to carry around with you. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Good luck to you on making the switch. I agree with the previous post about not stressing over it. When it comes to the cost, I can tell you that you will spend more money on each purchase of supplies and juice than you probably would on cigarettes but you will have to purchase much less and if you add it all up at the end of the month vaping is much cheaper than cigarettes. I still smoke about 2 cigarettes a day right now but I really had no intention on quiting especially under my circumstances at the time. I am a single mom to a 3year old boy who (you might just be familuar with as a fire fighter or EMT) is a trach/vent kid and therefore it is not possible for me to sneak away for a smoke. Vaping works and has been my life saver. I started my own e-cigarette business because I wanted to show people that e-cigarettes do work but the main focus of my company is not to sell e-cigarettes but to be a support system to those making the switch because it takes some fine tuning to figure out what works best for you. I make myself available to anyone that has questions or that feels like e-cigarettes aren't working for them and is trying to figure out why. I am not trying to post advertisement all over so I if you are interested in contact information just reply to me and I will post it for you.

Good luck to you, just remember it takes some adjusting to find what works best for you so don't give up!

I have tried everything to stop smoking. Nothing ever helped. The only time I ever stopped before vaping was when I was pregnant with both kids. My coworker suggested vaping to me. It took him about 3 months to convince me but I finally decided to make a purchase. I got an ego pass through and loved it. I didn't quick completely cigarettes the first month but in that month I went from 25 cigarettes a day to 3 a day. After that month I stopped smoking cigarettes completely. It's hard to get use to at first but a lot of it is trial and error to see what you like. I don't know how many setups I have gone through and ejuices I hav gone through to find the ones that work for me. Once you do though you will love it.
