Hello!

I'm new to e-cigarettes. vaping I suppose.

I just watched my Mom die, she passed March 6th, after 5 weeks in ICU.

She died from smoking cigarettes. As a smoker since 16, I don't have to be descriptive to tell you how horrible this experience has been,

Before she even passed, I started researching e-cigarettes and knew I had to stop smoking. I haven't had a cigarette since February 26th when I went and bought a disposable e-cig.

I don't know if I'm in the right forums. Not only have I quit "smoking", but I've discovered the e-cig flavors, like cherry and vanilla.

What an eye opening experience this has all been. I've even discovered I enjoy the e-cigs more than traditional burning cigarettes. Strange?

If this isn't the right forum for a former smoker who has discovered e-cigs than just let me know, otherwise, I'll stay! :)

( I don't know how that link got into my post, but I didn't put it there, it is automatic by what I type? *runs off to find the forum rules*)

Greetings Kexessa!

I am so sorry to hear of your Mother's passing, I too had the same experience more than 20 years ago now and while it does get easier with time, I am sure that there is no experience worse than losing your Mother, especially to a cigarette related disease! I spent many days and nights in the ICU with my Mom and at least you can comfort yourself with the knowledge that you were there for her at the end.

I have switched to vaping for a month now and am glad to have left that filthy habit behind! Don't feel shy about asking questions and searching the forum for information. Also, be sure to research Vaping stores in your area and stop by to visit, there is so much to learn to ensure your successful transition and so many wonderful products to try and enjoy!

Welcome to a Healthier Lifestyle!

It's great that I have found the right forum.

Thank you VapRLady for your kind words.

Does anyone know what happened in my first post? It now has 2 links that I didn't put there. I'm currently reading the forum rules in another window, and there are (obviously) rules about links, but I don't know how the automatic links happened.

Probably an autocomplete thing...I don't see the links now.....

I feel your pain and my condolences to your mother's passing. However, congratuations on quitting smoking.

I dealt with a similar situation about a year ago with my mother. She was in her mid-eighties and in relatively good health when she ended up in the ER with a suspected gall bladder attack. Further testing showed that she had an untreatable advanced cancer of the liver. She was dead within a few days of diagnosis.

As I took the trip out of town to visit my mother in the hospital for what would be the last time I would see her alive, I saw and bought my first disposable e-cigarette and used it over the next couple of days. Watching my mother die from cancer made me come to grips with my own mortality and the need to stop smoking immediately if I wished to stay alive.

Hence the reason that I chose the avatar that I have here on ECF. Can you see the symbolism of cigarettes loaded in a gun? Choosing to continue to smoke cigarettes is like choosing slow suicide. Those few days a year ago were the motivation I needed to finally quit a habit that I had for over 30 years. I thank God I found vaping and that it got me off and keeps me off the smokes.

You are in the right place and completely welcome here. Thank you for sharing your story.

I don't know mooreted, I can see them in my first post on the two words e-cigarettes and e-cig, but when I click them, they just take me to the main forum so they aren't external links. I guess I'll figure that out in my forum travels.

Oh, a Florida section, thank you for the suggestion Moonlit_Water. :)

Oh Baditude I'm sorry you lost your Mom as well. :( My mom was relatively young, by today's standards, she was only 72.

She had a sudden bowel perforation that was a quick and routine surgery. But recovery proved to be impossible as her lungs were unable to support her body to medical standards, they put her on a ventilator and she never came off.

If she hadn't have smoked 3 packs of cigarettes a day, her lungs could have supported her body as it healed.

Thank you for sharing Baditude, and yes, I get the symbolism in your avatar. It is so very true.

Hey there! And welcome! So sorry & my condolences in reference to the passing of your mother. I'm sure she's proud watching over you knowing that you've quit smoking & moved over to vaping. I too stalked the forums & web for many weeks gathering info on ecigs & vaping. I started smoking when I was 15. But it wasn't until right after last thanksgiving that I finally made my first purchase. I got a call from my mom that a very close friend of the family had passed away at the age if 55 from cancer after smoking for many years. This is a great community for sharing experiences in general & learning! Make sure you post if you have any questions! There are tons of friendly people here who are always willing to help!
