After countless hours on youtube as well as here, I purchased a KGO starter kit from Hoosier E Cig Supply along with a bottle of vanilla coffee bean juice.

KGO kit1100mAh by SLB

Despite a bit of a slow order process, the kit is now on it's way.

That said I have a few questions, I bought this to quit smoking. I have been smoking on and off (pretty much all on) for the last 10 years. What concerns me is the fact that I had to buy a "fruity" flavored juice and this will not satisfy my Marlboro 27 cravings.

Is there anything I can do about that? Numerous youtube videos state that even if I were to buy a "marlboro" juice from another supplier it is nothing like the real thing.

In your experience what are some key steps to transition from smoking to an e-cig? I have never had or tried an e cig before so I really don't have any idea about what I am getting myself into. I do however know that the actual smoking part of smoking is a big part of my addiction I have tried several times to ween myself off smoking using chewing tobacco and I always either end up just chewing, or chewing and smoking which always leads back to just smoking.

I have always smoked a pack a day of Marlboro mediums until they were forced to stop making them, since then it's been a pack a day of marlboro 27s. I have a very particular taste in what I smoke.

I guess just some insight on what to expect is what I am really looking for.

Thanks
rdean

Hi rdean,
You won't find a "real" tobacco flavor juice, but you don't have to be limited to a fruity flavoured juice either. There's a big range of different kinds of juices.

I'd suggest looking at some e-juice sites and trying some different small sample size bottles.

Also, once you have 5 posts in the new members forum you can post in other forums. The e-juice section of ECF has lots of different discussions/recommendations on juices: General E-Smoking Discussion

Welcome to the forum, rdean and congratulations on your choice to quit tobacco with vaping!

To start with, what you have heard is really pretty accurate in that there are no juices out there (that I have tried or of which I have heard) that actually taste just like the tobacco after which they are named. That said, there are quit a few that many people find satisfying and a "good enough" representation of a certain type of cigarette taste to make them happy. I tried many juices myself that purported to taste like brand X and found that none of them were particularly close. However, I did find several I liked and one that I feel is the closest to a light, no frills, American cigarette (DeKang's Kent/SEC).
Probably your best bet is to order some sample size containers from a few reputable vendors (look in the Forum Suppliers section at the top of the screen) and see what you end up liking...then get more of that. In your case, I think I'd go for 18mg/1.8% nicotine level (maybe 24mg/2.4% if you want a real punchy throat hit). Once you have a basic tobacco taste you like, you can start broadening your horizons to see what other flavors you might care to try.

Good advise above. Try different vendors and different juice makers. Just off the top of my head: try the Wow Cowboy flavors at Vapor4Life (V4L).

These tobacco flavored juices often work for a while for ex-smokers. They will not provide all of the flavor you used to get from smoking cigarettes. None can replicate the taste of burning tobacco, paper, flavoring and other additives in cigarettes. It is what it is, but it's better than cold turkey.

That's why so many ex-smokers/vapers use tobacco flavored juices at first and gravitate to fruit or other (or no) flavors.

P.S. The KGO is a great device. I recommend using Smoktech single coil low resistance (LR) cartos or other with it. 1.7-2.0 ohm LR is optimal.

Welcome and good luck with the quitting. Like everyone will tell you, there is no juice that really replaces that taste. I was worried about this myself as i was a Malboro Red smoker. But after i tried different flavors from different vendors i found i didn't care much for most tobacco flavors really and now all i really vape is fruit menthol flavors.(And i was never a menthol smoker) Just get yourself some samples and give them a try to find what works for you. Honestly i can say that i cant stand the taste of cigarettes anymore.

P.S. After your tastebuds recover from smoking your juices will taste better and much more complex

Stick to vaping for the nicotine satisfaction it offers. Taste will be slightly different and you will have to adjust to that. What you will eventually find is that the PV tastes better than the cigarette (if you are honest with yourself). Really, you will transition and begin to like the way vaping tastes. If you haven't quit completely, use both and compare. Evaluate and try to be honest in your conclusion.

One produces products of combustion (microscopic particles of burnt ash that carry nicotine into your lungs) and the other is steam that carries nicotine and flavorings to your lungs. The latter isn't absorbed so readily and most of the nicotine is absorbed by the mucous membranes in your mouth, throat, and sinus cavities.

With a PV, your lungs begin to recover from smoking, your sense of smell begins to return, and you lose the cough and hack from cigarettes while still satisfying your nicotine cravings.

Give vaping time for adjustment and if you are like most of us, you will eventually throw the cigs away and cling to the PV. Quitting tobacco is best done by replacing the nicotine you are addicted to. Once you do that, it's easy to taper off. It's not so much the nicotine that makes you keep smoking, it's the other chemicals that are in the tobacco.

This is your brain on nicotine

Wow, thanks for all the info guys!

The kit I bought came with:

2pcs. empty SLB 2.0ohm EGO Clearomizers. Primed with flavorless PG to prevent broken wick fibers.

From what I understand they are maybe not the best for flavor, but they seem to be a pretty good choice as far as a middle of the road type of thing. My biggest worry is running dry and burning up the coil.

Thanks for your input on the tobacco flavors, I know from previous experience that after not smoking for about two weeks the actual taste of a cigarette is pretty disgusting. The power of addiction is an amazing thing. How does the throat hit of a 510 compare to that of an actual cigarette drag?

Another question though, how well do the KGOs travel? My biggest concern is work. I work 12hr shifts and get 3 breaks which consist of me running out to my truck and sucking down 2-3 cigs in the cold. I would love to be able to chuck my KGO in my clipboard or at least keep it in my truck so that I won't have to keep punishing my truck with short, cold weather, all idle runs. What should I expect as far as that goes, do I have a good setup for what I am considering? If it can't travel and be decently tough, it will be too easy to run to the 24hr gas station for a pack of delicious cancer.

Also, I did a bit of research on Johnson Creek Juice and found out they are only about a 15 min drive away from me. Do they have a storefront that I can buy their products without having to deal with them online?

Vaping is pretty much my last ditch effort to quit smoking before I go to the doctor and take my chances with whatever they prescribe me, and I am not a fan of doctors or the poison they peddle. Plus smoking is costing me on average $210 each month. I need to quit this nasty habit for good this time.

Welcome rdean. The kit you ordered is one of the first ones that I got. Still going strong after 2 months. Like everyone has already said, taste is very subjective. I find that RY4 is one of my favorites, but I change flavors really often. The best thing to do is buy small samples of different flavors. You might be surprised at what suits your taste. I never thought I'd like peanut butter juice, but found that and a few other different desert flavors suit me on occasions. Good luck with the journey.

Rdean, Hi and welcome to ECF :)

I'm a way newbie, still yet to receive my first PV in the mail, but hopefully will have it in the next few days. Reading in some of the other forums, I understand that Heathers Heavenly Vapes has a flavor that folks compare to Marlboro Lights. It's called Dark Horse. I've ordered a sample pack that includes it as I have a friend who is interested in seeing my rig and checking vaping out when it comes, and he is a Marlboro Special smoker. Like I said, I haven't tried it, but HHV has a forum of its own on here and that's where I've read about it. Some say to steep the juice for about a week or so once you get it, and also that it gets even better the longer it steeps. I've no experience with the juice or the practice of steeping, but those terms can be found via an ECF search (top right hand of screen). Someone mentioned getting the 18 mg nicotine version, and I would probably agree, if not the 24 mg.

Good luck in your vaping ventures!

Yeah. I used to actually light tobacco leaves on fire and inhale them. And I was "picky" about the taste. lol. Didn't like most other brands nor menthol much.

I started e-cigs with a "I'll find a way before this tobacco stuff kills me" attitude. Not "I expect e-cigs to be like cigs". So like mentioned above...use em for the nic. And the inhalation habit. And...flavors.

I started e-cigs using a DIY e-juice kit. It came in a little plastic tackle box with a bunch of flavors I could order (and I ordered a bunch extra too). Then I started ordering PG/VG/Base by the jug. Once I figured out that the e-cigs actually worked, that is.

The 1st few weeks I finished up a carton, vaped, got the hardware worked out and made dang sure that the whole e-cig thing functioned and that I had enough hardware for if it failed. This was for stock 808's and 510's. I had some juice, but had the "kit" ordered an on the way too.

After that...I had enough flavors to find something that I liked (and that didn't bother my food sensitivities). I had PG, VG, nic base and enough hardware to "make the switch". Basically, if you can boil water, you can make DIY e-juice if you want to. And then you can play with the flavors and keep yourself busy.

The "I want it to taste exactly like a Cuban Cigar or I won't do it." attitude won't work. Sorry. But it can work for lots of other flavors. And it can get you off tobacco.

Good Luck!

24mg juice got me off the cancer sticks. I changed over recently to 18mg juice in the same flavor. I can tell a difference in throat hit.

You might try some of the Dekang 80/20 juices like DK-TAB and Desert Ship. Those will give you a decent throat hit and good flavor. You also might like RY-4 from any supplier. Check out Madvapes for the China liquids (Dekang). They are priced well and you can get 50ml for around $12 or less. I keep several Dekang flavors around for a change of pace.

You will find that your favorite juice gets bland and vaping something else for a while restores your palate. We all found that to be true in tobacco cigs. I used to change cigarette brands from time to time in search of the perfect smoke. No more of that these days!

Congrats on the choice to start vaping instead of smoking. I smoked menthols for a loooong time. The first juice I got was a menthol juice thinking it would be like smoking. It wasn't. I have not found any e-liquid that tastes like a cigarette and to be honest I'm enjoying the variety of flavors in vaping much more than smoking. I used to think I wanted a juice that tasted like a cigarette but now I have no desire for it whatsoever. I think you will enjoy vaping much more than smoking. I would suggest (as have others) try different juices from different vendors. All e-juice is not made the same. Some is better than others. I don't vape anything that tastes remotely like a cigarette. I currently have cherry limeade in my tank. Yesterday it was pumpkin pie. Give it some time and enjoy all the flavors. Good luck and do your best to stay off the smokes.

Hello, the dark Horse from heather's heavenly vapes is as close to the real thing I've found. I too was surprised by the choice in a favorite flavor and find myself liking the sweet flavors a lot. My 2 favorites right now are cotton candy and butterscotch tobacco from Mt. Baker vaper. Mmm good stuff! I've only filled one tank with dark Horse its a good vape but as others have said as my taste buds come back I'm not really enjoying the straight tobacco vapes. That being said taste is very subjective so sample many flavors and you will find what suits you. Good luck! Quitting is rather easy with vaping as a substitute.

I'll also resound trying samples at first. Taste is subjective to each and every person it will taste differently.
Everyone raves about RY4, I don't much care for it. I was really liking Vapor4life's WoW Boy, but the 555 didn't work for me. I found a local brick and mortar that made me up a batch of tobacco with peanut flavor added. It's like a 555, but not, and I LOVE it! It makes no sense!
Also your taste will change as you go forward, as others had said, I was on a grape and Dr Pepper kick for a while and I don't even care for Dr Pepper as a drink! But that's the fun of it, you can find about anything you want and play with it!
Good luck and give it some time to find what you like and works for you! It's small victories you are after right now, celebrate each cig you don't smoke, not grovel over the ones you do!

I am new to vaping and thought I would want the "tobaccco" flavor so bought some prefilled carts with my setup. They were pretty gross to be honest. One tasted like a burnt raisin. I think, for me, the hand to mouth, watching the "smoke" and having nicotine is really all I needed, the flavors are actually a bonus. My first vape was on 10/30/12 and I have not had a real cig since. This journey is exciting!!

Welcome Rdean! I'm new also, been vaping only about 2 weeks but have found true what others have posted here in that ... my first order of juice consisted of 4Star General (tobacco flavor), cheesecake and redhots. I found I didn't care for the tobacco flavor so much but LOVED the others. Since I don't want the larger bottle of tobacco flavor to go to waste, I mix in a 1/3 of redhots and its AWESOME. I likely won't order the 4Star anymore just because I love the flavors so much. My most recent order was Pina Colada and Red Cow. Both are out of this world! I order from myfreedomsmokes.com and have not been disappointed! They ship SUPER fast and the juice has kept me off analogs so I'm happy!

Hope you continue to enjoy it as much as I and everyone else here does!

Congratulations on your quest to dump the cigs. I have been vaping for about 9 months, and, like many others, when I first started I believed I would need a tobacco flavor to be able to kick the cigs. That really was not the case at all. My first juice purchase was RY-4, and after about a week I was very tired of it, and I did not want the tobacco taste at all. Now I vape all kinds of different flavors, but not many tobaco flavors. My personal favorites right now are Alice Cooper, a fruity juice from a store here in Dallas, and Jumblebee, which actually is a tobacco flavor with a bit of honey and other flavors. These are both ADVs for me. I do still keep RY4 around, but I dont use it often.

Thanks again for all the info guys. My kit should be here tomorrow. I am glad the cig taste hasn't been an issue for you guys.

How well will my KGo with clearomizers travel?

First welcome to ecf, you eill find tons of help here. As far as tobacco flavors IMHO most are a wash. As for travel, in my car I turned my ashtray into a pv tray in my office (a UPS semi) I use the passenger cup holder and these ways work, but if I wasn't stuck in my ways I would buy a pv case. If you were referring to flying I don't fly so can't help there sorry.
