New...need help

Pack/pack-n-a-half per day American Spirit Yellow smoker. 10+ years.

Was at an event on July 4th where I couldn’t smoke so I reluctantly bought a JUUL on the way to the event.

I was amazed.

I finished the pack of smokes I had the next morning and haven’t had a cig since July 5th.

Same for my wife. She hit the JUUL and like me hasn’t had a cig since that weekend. We bought her one that same night when I brought mine home.

We blew through the starter packs and I quickly found a way to start re-filling JUUL PODS with third party juice. Plus the JUUL liquids are too harsh.

That worked great but as we decrease nicotine levels I wanted a similar device that can burn the lower nic juice.

Plus, I’m tired of refilling pods and then having to vape some JUUL pods to use those for refilling purposes. Found out the hard way that a JUUL pod can only be refilled two or three time...

So, last Thursday I bought a SMOK NORD.

I like the look, the feel and the theoretical function, but from day one this thing was spitting at me like an angry snake.

Took it back to the store. Got a lesson on how to properly prime the coil and talked about different techniques to use when taking a drag.

Uh, yeah...nothing has gotten better. I’ve cleaned everything multiple times, changed the coils, changed the juice, change the juice brand, different nic level juice...

While it doesn’t spit hot juice onto my lips/tongue as it did that first day, I’m still surprised at how much juice gets in my mouth on every drag. My wife won’t even touch it, let alone use it.

I’ve gone as far as shoving a tiny piece of cotton into the mouthpiece but after 10-15 pulls it so saturated I have to remove it.

I’m attempting to attach a couple of photos. One is a paper towel I use to cover the mouthpiece when taking a hit, the other is the small piece of saturated cotton.

Meanwhile, I’ve switched back to my JUUL. It’s a pain to refill the pods but I’m tired of getting juice in my mouth.

Any suggestions on how to make the Nord work without coating my tongue/gums with juice? When I hit it through the paper towel, the piece of cotton or even a T-shirt, I love the extra flavor and warmth of it compared to the JUUL but I’m done with the juice in my mouth.

Ultimately we both want a device similar to the JUUL. Small, sleek, uses nic-salts, refillable. If you don’t have suggestions on how to make my $60 Nord Investment work, then what about other devices?

Welcome to ECF .... You've taken a big step in the right direction. I suspect you'd like a simpler device. I use an Innokin T18 but there are lots of other products out there.
This forum is chock full of helpful advice and suggestions about different devices. Don't worry about the cost of finding the right one .... you'll save a TON of money downstream.

Hello @Btseagle98, may I ask how hot it gets where you are? As high heat affects juices or liquids and makes them thin or less viscous, so you could initially try a higher to full VG (Vegetable Glycerine) liquid. So maybe a liquid with 80% VG may be a good place to start, get the smallest quantity you can to test.

Congratuations are in order. You have quit cigarettes.

You just need to find a setup that works best for you. Most of us veterans have gone through at least 3 - 4 setups to find our favorite. Don't give up hope. Be persistant and have an open mind to what is available to you on the market.

I'm afraid that I'm not all that knowledgeable with pod systems like you're using, so I won't even try to help you trouble shoot. My thing are "mods".

Mods use larger batteries for longer running time. Larger tanks that don't require refilling that often. The mods I use are single 18650 battery mods which run all day on a single battery, but are still very light weight and pocket friendly. I'm going to recommend the THIS IS THE BEST MTL VAPE, the Innokin Adept mod with the Zlide tank starter kit.

Innokin Adept-Zlide kit may be the new starter kit to recommend to new vapers

My wife made the switch from the Juul to the Novo and 35mg nic salts...no subohming for her ha ha. The Novo lasts all day on a charge and the pods will taste good through 5/6 refills. The pods are $6/7 per 3pk. She prefers Pod Juice Loops which I think tastes pretty much like dry Fruit Loops. When I can’t squonk I still go for my Homer Simpson wrapped Juul lol

Thanks for the input everyone.

To answer some of the questions:
I’m using the 1.4 coil. Actually I have tried three coils since Thursday.

I didn’t Prime the first one...my bad.
I primed the second...still spits out juice.

I’ve dried it, cleaned it, Re-primed it...same ol story.

I honestly don’t know the PG/VG ratio of the juices I’m using.

Earlier today I took the device back to the store and showed him the cotton and paper towel. He was at a loss and while he wouldn’t do a return/refund, he did give me a new 1.4 coil. He told me if it still didn’t work then I should contact SMOK direct.

Took the new coil home.
Primed it.
Let it sit for 30 minutes.
Took a few small slow hits and then sure enough on my first real hit I had juice in my mouth. Same results through the paper towel.

Luckily the vape store I use also gave me a Sourin Drop to try. So far it appears to be promising.

It’s really a shame because I really like everything else about the Nord. Size, feel, look, warmth of hit, and the flavor it produces. I could even get used to the lose airflow. I just can’t handle that juice in my mouth.

I want MTL...don’t like the sub-ohm.

Limited option but I’ll keep trying things until I get it right.

Have you watched any You Tube videos on the SMOK NORD? Sometimes you can find some little things that you are doing wrong that affect your vape.

The video review for the Suorin Drop starts at the 6:25 mark.

I’ve watched so many YouTube videos I’ve caught myself watching the same videos twice. None of the tips seem to work.

I’ll take a look at those other devices because I’m pretty sure I’m gonna lose the Sourin Drop to my wife.

I'd say the only thing Smok got right, ever, is the Nord.

Might be your inhale strength pulling more liquid into the head than can be vaporized with each hit.
(too strong, hard, fast inhale) If you inhale strongly trying to use a restricted Dtl with the 1.4Ω head you surely are over saturating / pulling in more liquid than can be vaporized with each hit.
The excess liquid & moisture collecting in the head / airflow path has to go somewhere, it can't go back into pod so it follows the airflow into your mouth.
Outside chance you are using high Pg liquids, I use 50/50 in everything, never had any spit back or leaking using the 1.4Ω head.

@Btseagle98

Smok stuff generally has a pretty sketchy reputation. Since you said you wanted "a device similar to the JUUL. Small, sleek, uses nic-salts, refillable" maybe have a look at the Uwell Caliburn.

@Btseagle98 - I'm not much of a pod mod vaper, but I do enjoy the Caliburn kwite a bit. Besides, Rossum suggested it.

And he's kool. :D

Maybe I should have written this disclaimer earlier: I have no personal experience with the Caliburn. But it gets pretty good reviews and seems to fit the bill for what @Btseagle98 is looking for.
