Hey guys, I’m somewhat new to vaping but I’ve had a JUUL for a couple of months and as we all know pods are pretty damn expensive. So I tried refilling one and when I went to hit it, the first couple of hits juice came into my mouth. I wiped it out but I started to notice a little burning in my mouth and a little bit in the back of my throat. I washed my mouth out with water and and after doing so i felt a slight headache. I downed a couple water bottles after that and I’m about to brush my teeth. I don’t feel sick or anything but the headache won’t go away. I know that having this isn’t healthy but I only took a couple of hits. Am I going to be fine?? Btw the juice I refilled my pod with is salty mans juice box, 30 ml 5.0% Salt Nicotine. Thanks guys, I really would appreciate help with this!!
Just a little Nicotine overdose as
@Letitia mentioned above, not a bad one, really bad to start worrying is when you start getting nauseous to the stomach and start getting heat flashes. Drinking water is perfectly fine and just chill on the vaping for about an hour or so. Remember unlike actual cigarettes, with vaping the nicotine is primarily absorbed through the mucus membranes in the mouth and sinuses compared to with cigarettes it is in the lungs. Just be more careful in the future, especially when dealing with Nicotine Salt derived liquids, which the JUUL pods use and some companies like the one you mentioned are making bottled liquid for these pod systems. 5.0% is the percentage per volume of nicotine in the solution, we use two methods by % figure or by milligrams (mg) per milliliter (ml) as mg/ml, the ratio is still the same, 6mg/ml = 0.6%, most Nic Salt liquids as your are 5.0% or 50mg/ml.
Such a high percentage on the liquid is due to the very, very low power that your device outputs, probably in the 6watts to 12watts range, maybe median average at about 8watts output, so thus the higher nicotine content is needed as the vapor exposure is very low, where the 6mg/ml (0.6%) mentioned above most times you see when someone is in the 20 to 50watts output range, more vapor and larger clouds also equals larger nicotine exposure per volume. Nic Salts are a very, very, very refined version of nicotine that was dehydrated then added into a liquid solution again, and have arisen in the past year or two, and a lot of the pod systems hopped on them for one reason or another.
What happened here when you refilled your little pod is you may have over filled it and thus flooded the coil or over saturated the wicked material in the coil, always leave a little air gap at the top next refill also, being a bottom situated coil, these systems work on vacuum and negative head pressure (air above the liquid) pulls at the liquid so it doesn't follow the path of least resistance and just flow through the coil unhindered.
If you are tired of the price of those itty bitty pods for the JUUL but keep it just as simple and compact there are alternatives out there that are cheaper but just as reliable. Recently purchased a Sourin Drop pod mod myself (refillable pod from the get go can use just about any juice you want instead of limited to the brand's offerings like the JUUL), pricing the replacement pods in my area they are about $5 to $7USD compared to the 35ish for a pack of JUUL pods, larger capacity as well.
In the advent of another Nic overdose worse than a headache like you have experienced, but go further and get symptoms listed above as a higher overdose level, best to seek medical attention, remember we here most of us are not medical practitioners, we can give guidance, but life threating situations or scares such as you've experienced better to have professional, immediate care just in case, especially dealing with such a strong nic solution as Nic Salt Juices are concerned.
