Darchand I always keep an eye on your thread.
As you may realize I have an ulterior motive.
There are a few really great threads running at the moment and yours is one.
If your looking at moulding your pipe, a great medium is epoxy putty for the mould and maybe a basic casting resin for the pipe.
Some time ago I was working with casting resin but it had little strength for what I needed, so I added short overlapping lengths of 1/32 carbon rod. (Not as expensive as you may think) worked a treat.

Wonderful design very nice looking pipe . I have a cnc in my garage and can cut a 3-d shape out of foam and wood . Im Working on a mill for soft metals . I also know someone who molds all the time and uses a silicone based molding material . He also has a cnc and is reasonable and could make a casting mold that you could make more than one if you want too.

I was going to suggest making a silicone mold of the existing prototype, and then cast from resin myself. This way, you can polish off the finished surface before you cast it. You can even cast the whole pipe at once, and then cut the two halves (or even more segments) afterward. But, the internal cavities would be a big issue, especially the hole for the wire.

I have been out of town for a little while so I haven't really been keeping up too well. I will come back to your posts and read them in detail and give you guys some comments on what I think after all you all have great ideas.

But that isn't why I am posting now. I am posting now to show off the 3d print that I hold in my hand. Everything is near perfect only one slight flaw where the mouth piece is too short to hold the entire body of the 510 atty. I have ideas and might compromise a little but everything is is great and that project should go together nicely.

Enough for now enjoy some pictures. :)

P.S.

Sorry about the quality

Looks and design are 10 out of 10.
Just a question
Is it strong enough to work with or are you going to use it as a mold blank.
If a mold blank then I would like to get my hands on the cast version just to play around with.

Once again my friend. Great design.

Peter................

You know when I ordered it I was worried about how solid it would be and tried to design it where while the walls aren't incredibly thick but the whole design would be sturdy. When I took it out of the package I was very impressed with the strength of the material (which is a nylon type of material). This one will move forward into becoming an actual working prototype. I just need to get it painted and polished then all of the parts go in.

Also I have had to do some modifications and if I put the print up for sale for you guys to make your own I will make those modification in 3d.

Some of the areas I have had problems with are, the mouth piece was sealed at the end because it was too close in. That one I got fixed easily. The other problem would be the atty container near the mouth piece was not large enough for the atty. It was off by about 1 mm maybe less even and had to be drilled out carefully. That is now fixed.

The next little problem is that the mouth piece narrows and bends too soon where it doesn't hold the atty. However I am working on a fix for that and it should be easy enough.

Thanks every one for the comments I can't wait to get some pictures of it painted but that will take some time.

It's a secret!
If it's nylon, you may be better off using dye than paint. Should absorb it pretty well.
Regular RIT dye should work fine if you just heat it up and let the parts soak in it for a few minutes.

If you make another, I'd like to request a churchwarden like Gandalf has in your avatar. The same basic design should work just with a longer stem.

Look at that, you're already getting custom orders!

That is one beautiful pipe. Thank-you for sharing your pipe artistry and your link to the video, Old Fangs. Both of them visually stunning.

Susan

We want lots more pictures.
lots lots lots lots lots lots lots.

and if not pictures a video would be better.

I'm not being pushy though.

Peter.......

Sure your being pushy. But hopefully thats just because you like what you see so far. I should have more pics tomorrow (if not then maybe a week or two).

Good old Gandalf and his churchwarden pipe. I agree very stylish. As for dying that would work very well in fact most people do dye there models. However when all is said and done I want something a little more unique and dying is far to simple.

btw found this side full of great pipes. MacQueen Pipes

very sharp looking pipe! if you dont mind me asking, where did you have the 3d printing done?

Of course the place I got the 3d print from is called shapeways.com they operate out of the Netherlands however there shipping is included in the price of the print. I paid $30 for the print. I might post a link to it later and allow others to buy it but I still need to fix a couple of things with the 3d model before I do that.

Sorry no new pics yet. I have a dentist appointment latter and then maybe some painting. Later on I will be going to see Gabriel Iglesias (very exciting.)

Until then thought I would throw up some links for the fun of it. Hope you guys enjoy.
