Yes, you are better off with buying a couple of extra volt batteries. They aren't much larger than the blue, but they last a lot longer. I started with the shorter batteries and 1 manual long one. Now I like the longer one. The only thing I don't like is that it doesnt fit in the mega pcc with a carto on it, but I quickly bought the carrying case for $7 and it holds 4 batteries and 4 cartos. Then you can also have your mega pcc with stuff in it. Remember you can get a free battery from SI too

Thanks for the Vapordudes link, Mroutlaw. The carts I ordered from SI were the plain mint, rather than the menthol or the mix. From the site you suggest for liquids, I ordered 3 small bottles, 11mg strength, and 30/70 mix (thinking I might like VG better). The flavors I chose were Spearmint, Strawberry Lemonade, and Black Cherry.

And with that I'm done ordering stuff. For real. This is it. I'm done spending money. This is my serious face. :glare:

How much do/did you smoke? Rule of thumb is less than 1 pack a day, 12mg.; 1-2 PAD, 12-18mg; 2-3 PAD, 18-36mg. It's good to get two strengths.

I have to disagree with you here. I smoked 1.5 packs per day and I needed 36mg for well over a year before I dropped down to 24mg. I would think that for most PAD smokers, 12 mg would not cut it.

Smokers are made to feel guilty enough without making them feel like they need to vape at such low nicotine levels or they're exceeding some fabricated norm. If a new vaper needs high nic levels to stomp out the cigarette cravings, they should go as high as necessary without feeling guilty. The goal is to give up the analogs - whatever it takes.

I don't disagree that you should use whatever it takes. I was responding to a specific question and it's a "rule of thumb". Most people vape a lot, quantity wise, when they first get their kits. 36mg is pretty strong and would probably make most pack a day smokers nauseous if they chain vaped it the way most people do when they're testing out their new rig.

I smoked 3 packs a day for 40 years. Full flavor Winstons. Then I RYO'd full flavored tobacco for the last 3 years. I quit instantly with 24mg. The day I got my first e-cig, I never lit another analog. I continued for almost 2 years at 24mg and only recently cut to 18. There's no logic in just suggesting a new vaper just get the strongest nic possible. At that point, they don't have any idea of what strength would be effective or appropriate.

Nobody is saying that someone should feel guilty, or impose artificial limits on the nic strength. But it doesn't do anyone any good to vape at a level likely to make them sick either. The rule of thumb was a suggestion as a starting point based on the nicotine content of cigarettes, consumption rate, absorption rate and anecdotal and empirical evidence, not a hard fast rule, hence the "range" of strengths.

My Volt kit should arrive sometime within the next two hours. I'm waiting like a kid on Christmas. I had what I hope to be my last analog this morning. Aside from that, I have a few questions (if anyone is still checking this thread).

I ordered some VG liquids, not realizing they might mess up my cartomizers. If I bought some distilled water, could I try to dilute the liquid for better vaping? Are clearomizers better for VG liquids?

Are clearomizers good in general? Are they like carts where you should only have one per flavor? If so, would it be better to wait until I found a flavor I really liked?

Some extra things I might still want to purchase (but are by no means a necessity):

Some syringes, eye droppers, tweezers, etc. to help with refilling carts
A third battery (though SI will send me one for free if I post a picture in their forum)
A USB charger for a single battery (Blu's was nice, I liked that feature)
Clearomizers?
Either color coded caps from SI or scotch tape and a marker for keeping track of cart flavors
A small organizer to keep everything in
Stickers for batteries and carts (just because they look cool)

Is there anything else I should consider adding to the list? Any accessories you've really liked?

Ok,
Clearomizers are ok, but you can't tilt them upside down because u will get liquid in your mouth. You can clean them and use inpatient different flavor by rinsing them out and doing a dry burn.

If you buy another battery, I would get the x2 for long periods at home. The small one can go over 6 hours without a charge. All the clearomizers and cartomizers will work on it.

The USB charger is nice because you can charge one in that on one in your pcc at night.

The colored end caps help you remember what is in each cartomizer. Same with the stickers. The stickers work well, but I find that even though they have writable ones, the writing rubs off.

I too
Started with blu

I quickly moved to refilling their cartos with juice to get extra life out of them. Worked quite nicely for a while. Then moved to bigger and better things. Whenever someone asks about my e-cig, I always tell them that I started with the Blu as it is a cheap way to get on board the vapor train.

I'm almost a year without analogues and vamping happily.

Hurray!

My volt arrived on time and one of my eliquids arrived early. I was so worried about vaping after getting sick from the Blu flavors, but I have a good feeling I'll like some of the ones I just got. For one thing, the Blu carts themselves smelled awful to me. The menthol eliquid I just received from smokeforpennys smells like heaven. The mint cartos from SI smell pretty good too. Everything's charging right now, and I'm filling two empty carts using the condom method. Can't wait until everything's ready.

Thanks again for all the advice and especially for encouraging me to get the Volt. I love everything about it so far, size, feel, the charging case (had some issues screwing the battery into the Blu case, but no problems with this one). I think I chose pretty well for a noobie, and I have all of you to thank for that.

You could, but I wouldn't. VG liquids won't mess up your cartomizers. They might make them last a little less time, but it's not worth diluting the nicotine and the flavor with water. Did you get 100% VG? Most VG is thinned a little bit anyway. I wouldn't mess with it unless it causes you real problems.

Are clearomizers good in general? Are they like carts where you should only have one per flavor? If so, would it be better to wait until I found a flavor I really liked?
Clearomizers are great. You can usually clean them very easily, so you don't need one per flavor. How easy it is to clean them depends on the particular clearomizer, but usually it's not difficult.

I would definitely go for the USB charger. It will make your portable charger last a lot longer.
You almost can never have too many batteries. You should get one of the large batteries for at home. Charge it on the USB. And take advantage of the free battery SI will give you for the picture.
For keeping track of flavors, that's up to you. I found the easiest way for me was to get some of those cheap plastic boxes that hold 4 AA batteries. Put stickers on the top to label the battery slots. Then just keep each flavor in its own slot. The color coded caps sound cool though, as long as you can keep track of the colors. Maybe use a matching dot on the juice bottles. Once you have a lot of flavors, that gets unwieldy though.

You don't really need syringes, eyedroppers, etc. if you're using the condom method. If you decide to try clearomizers, you'll probably need a syringe and some blunt-tipped needles. Be careful to get the right gauge needle though. If it's too thin, it'll take forever to suck up thick juice. If it's too thick, it won't fit.

You should try the clearomizers. I understand that SI makes some? If they do, try those. They'll be designed for the way you hold a mini-cig and shouldn't leak into your mouth. Or, you can use 510 clearomizers with an adapter. I use Fluxomizers horizontally and they don't leak at all. But you'll need an adapter to use them on the Volt. I recommend them highly. They're easily cleaned and they work good with thicker, high VG juice.

I was surprised to find the Volt batteries were already charged (well, they're working, anyway), so I'm just waiting for the PCC to finish up so I can check the amount of charge they have. I was vaping happily for about an hour, though the vapor seemed pretty harsh. I vaped more carefully, much smaller puffs, with a lot of air intake with it. This was 12mg, PG, menthol. I put it down for about an hour and a half to clean the house, but now I have a headache and I'm nauseous like I was yesterday (wasn't feeling bad until now). And, much like the Blu flavors, these now smell nauseating to me. :glare:

It looks like I'll have to take it easy for a while. I might be getting too much nicotine, although it's strange because I don't feel jittery at all. My heart rate is normal and I'm actually quite tired. It could be the PG, but I won't know until my VG liquids arrive in a few days. Half are 70% VG, the other 100%. I'm glad to hear that I don't have to worry about them hurting the carts.

*edit to add*
I am drinking lots and lots of water. Just getting that out of the way as a possible culprit.

If you have a headache, that's the first sign that you're getting too much nico. Lay off of it for awhile. You don't vape the same way you smoked. You press the button for about 2 seconds, then inhale through your mouth SLOWLY/steadily for about 5 seconds, and then exhale through your nose. That way all of your taste sensors are picking up the flavors.
Most new batteries come about 70% charged, so it would be better to let them fully charge. Be SURE to NOT charge them overnight! And if you have to leave the house, take them OFF the charger! You can always finish charging when you get back home.

Hmmm.... Try varying your technique a little to cut down on the harshness. Hold the vapor in your mouth a little while longer and don't inhale it deeply at all. Exhale it mostly from your nose. The nicotine is mostly absorbed in your mouth and nasal passages, so you'll still get the nicotine, but if you hold it in your mouth longer, it won't taste as harsh.

I've never heard of nausea as a symptom of a PG intolerance. Usually it's hives or a rash or irritation. Sounds like you might be getting too much nicotine. When I got my first decent kit, I did the same thing. Vaped myself sick. lol. It took a while to get the technique and pace worked out.

Thanks for the advice. I'll hold off on vaping until I start craving an analog, and do it like you both suggested. I didn't know any of it got absorbed in the mouth, so that's helpful. I suppose that's why people smoke cigars the way they do. I always wondered what the point of it was if they didn't inhale (or so I've been told that's the way to smoke cigars). Once I'm craving a cigarette, we'll see how the vape tastes then (I'm guessing a lot better).

Stormlark, It sounds like too much nic. If you find that the case, switch to 6mg on next order. You can also cut the nicotine level down by mixing you juice with straight vg. You can buy it in cvs. It is usually in the band aid isle or, as in my case, by the facial lotions and cleaners. It will say pure glycerine (USB) on the bottle.

Also, after you do the condom method of filling your cartos, you can do a tayrn spin to be able to add more and use right away. Google it and you can't find some great YouTube videos to teach you. It's very easy and quick
