So, today I went back to my local B&M store here in Birmingham, Vulcan Vape. It seemed a bit busy, but one of the people there behind the counter asked if I needed help. I asked if they had the EVOD starter kit, which they did. He explained everything to me about it, and even let me try out juices. I really like this aspect of a physical store. Being able to try out the juice, meant that I wouldn't get a juice I didn't like and wasted money. I settled on a nice menthol juice, "Want2Vape" Mystical Menthol. It gives me the most familiar and pleasing vape. It is almost like I am back smoking my menthol cigarettes. Overall, I have to say I highly recommend this place to anyone in the Birmingham area. I also strongly recommend to anyone new to vaping who has a vape shop near them to go visit. Nothing beats being able to try out a vape before you spend your money on it.
I can not begin to thank everyone who passed on their knowledge in this thread. It was incredibly helpful and eased my way into the great world of vaping.

I went straight to ego style batteries. Disposables weren't for me and I took a bit of a leap of faith. Glad I did though! Have been analog free for almost three months!

I had no idea all this stuff was out there. I just bought a Misitic e-cig at Walmart thinking it would help me quit smoking. It did, I have to say. However, it wasn't as enjoyable as smoking was to me. Reading here that they are the low end and not really a good representation made me look into better options. The EVOD seemed right up my alley. I bought one today and I am completely pleased. It gives me the same taste/feeling I used to get when I smoked. I couldn't be happier, and I owe it to the good people on this forum who have helped me along without being harsh or looking down on me for being new.

Hi all. I am a long time smoker and thought e-cigs would be a good way to kick the addiction to cigarettes. I have no clue where to start. Can anyone suggest something for a newbie who knows almost nothing? I was thinking of trying a disposable, to see if it's for me. Any suggestions?
(By the way, I have always been a menthol smoker, and would need that flavor.)
Thank you for taking the time to read.

Definitely try some disposables;
That way, even if your main vape knocks out on you, a disposable is your backup instead of looking to buy a pack of cigarettes.

I've been smoking cigarettes for six or seven years and my ProVari from ProVape.com has kept me away from the real cigarettes. As for menthol just type in google "best menthol eliquid" and you'll see everyone's opinion on this forum on a google search. Only because I've never tried any menthol. Respond to me if you have anymore questions, there will be a lot of vaping terms such as PV/VG, ohms, resistance, coil, volts, watts, mechs, MODS, RBA, RDA, RTA, genesis, carto, carto tank, kanthan, wicks, steeping, etc etc and more. Just ask me or PM and I'll answer your questions and be happy to help you out. Why? Because it was frustrating for me in the beginning since I had to teach myself yadayada but I wanna help you just so you don't shy away from the vaping experience. But I will tell you this. For your first one you need a very durable device and a nice tank that is rebuildable. Why? Because I want you to save your money from buying disposable cartons and rebuild it instead with some wire and cotton. I will send you a video that explains how to rebuild correctly and easily. AND it is an investment so be ready to throw a good amount of money for a quality device but I promise you it's one expense and you are set. I repeat it is only expensive at the first buy, wire and wicks that last you a lifetime is a total of ten bucks. And I can give you websites that will sell bulk flavors for quality and a low price made in the USA

I have my Mistic 2 in case anything happens.

You're off to a good start.

Now you might want to work out your vape budget.

Whatever you used to spend on cigarettes per month
Budget to spend HALF that per month towards vaping for the next year.

In a year's time you should be well setup and spending only 10% per month what you used to spend on cigs.

Good for you on quittin the smokes:) At least the Mistic 2 will give you a backup. You can get a knockoff or just a spare battery on ebay cheap. The evod will do a good job with menthol, as good as any, but if and when you get into other flavors, you will probably go to one of the countless other systems that deliver more flavor and hit volume. That's when your "hobby" begins:) Also, if you want to vape for pennies a day, it's easy to diy menthol and setup is cheap.

Just curious...what is the next step up from the EVOD? I like it's compact design, so I'd rather not get into anything bigger.
(Why oh why did I not discover vaping sooner?)

Hi Welcome! I agree with the rest about going to a shop first. I'm only a month in, buut the first thing I was told was don't go cheap if you plan to make the switch. I can't tell you about shops in Bham, my shop is in Phenix City, AL and they're amazing (Custom Vapes if anyone lives/shops around there). I walked in, told them I wanted to switch, but I only had $100 in my current budget. They had me set up for about $70. I started with a simple Smok Winder variable voltage (also known as an eGo style) and a Kanger protank 2. They are still one of my favorites. Looks like this...

tumblr_mz7fmhrJDY1qc9pkqo1_1280.jpg

I was a pack a day newport 100 smoker (24 years). My first week on 18mg nicotine I found I was still having cravings but I was smoking half as much, so I bumped up to 24mg juice. When I finished the pack of cigarettes I had, I never bought more. I thought I'd need the menthol, but I've never missed it. I was off cigarettes a week to the day that I bought mmy ecig. Your mileage may vary.

Best of luck to you!

Since you want to stay about the same size, yes, the Innokin VV3 would give you VV and VW options, along with ohm check and battery voltage display. Similar is the SLB VV3, which can be had in 1300 mAh ratings, so it's a bit longer. (Actually both of those are a bit longer than the Evod battery, but similar diameter.

Any of the regulated VV/VW mods will be quite a bit bigger, but give the advantage of replaceable batteries. So when that eventually dies, you just replace the relatively inexpensive battery and keep on with the same body and controls.

Being able to adjust the power to the coil, whether by changing volts or watts, allows you to fine tune the vape to your tastes.

My next step up from my starters was an iTaste VV3 which has worked really well for me - so much so I've got a second one on order :)

Thank you! I will definitely look into those when I decide to step up to a VV/VW. Those look like what I would go for.

I would say if u like menthol then go with a menthol juice like peppermint or creme de menthe .I smoke dessert pies ! LOL

The Want2Vape Mystic Menthol has been awesome for me. It's got the same taste and throat hit that my Camel Menthols had. Thank you for the suggestions!

The itaste v3 is pretty good. It was one my first devices, and it worked great for me.
Hey CalamityJess, I am also in the Phenix city area (Seale actually) and Custom Vapes is were I got my starter set from also. Very nice people there!

Hi neighbor! That's my go-to shop, they are so customer oriented and excited about getting people off cigarettes. I swear I buy something shiny every time I go there though. I just stocked up on juices again, when I only MEANT to get some midnight rider >.<
