I mix my pre made juices but never officially did DIY. Probably holding off until January after vacation to order anything. I have several 10 ml needle tip bottles to fill. My main question is do I do a few with no nic to judge the flavor and then add nic if I like it. Only reason I ask is that is probably the most expensive ingredient.

Does nic add much of a difference in the flavor? Should I experiment with flavor and PG/VG ratio first before adding nic?

You should use what ever you normally vape so if you vape with NIC make your test batches with NIC. NIC adds throat hit to a vape. Make small 5ml test batches so you don't waste materals. Keep careful notes of each test batch so when you hit on a good mix you can reproduce it.

Read my blogs before getting started

then read hoosier's blogs.

then read the stickies at the top of the page.

this will explain a lot of the how's and why's.

Actually just started experimenting with coolness using koolata. Made a cool watermellon, cool mango, cool caramel cream and a few others. Really enjoy it. the koolata really brings out fruit flavors. Was never really into fruits until I started using koolata.

I love the koolada, I put it in everything.. If you like try a small amount of menthol in there too. To add to it. I am not a fan of mango,, tried that one and it tasted bad to me like a rotten mango or something.

A good mango is really hard to find. The hangsen mango taste really good. Never was a fan of menthol. I have a bottle and used it a few times for a change of pace with some of my tobacco mixes but I tire of it really quickly. The koolata on the other hand I can vape any time and never seem to get bord of it.

I do my experiments with no nic because of cost and i don't notice any difference except th. you may want to try both ways n see what works best for you. When I started I tried with and stopped when i realized I had used 15 ml of nic in a week of experiments.

Koolada is the only menth I use except on occasion peppermint. I hated how true menthol made me think of cough drops. Been using it since it came available especially in fruits.

I keep a v-nano which holds less than 1 ml of eliquid and in it I usually have a blend called cuban cigar; I might not refill that for days or weeks.

My main vaping is done with vivi novas or a protank these days with ZERO nicotine. In fact I've been experimenting currently with VG + water alone, because I'm suspecting that the purchased eliquids that I have, contain substances which gunk up the coils, whereas I'm experimenting to see if VG+water alone will end up keeping my atomiser clean.

Using 0 nic alot also can show up toxic tastes which you would not notice when you vape with nicotene of another strong throat hitter; burning plastic gives you a throat hit, and a heavy nicotine smoker might hardly notice it.

Is that undiluted nic solution or already mixed base?

If it was 15ml's of undiluted nic solution you were either making large test batches or an awful lot of small test samples.

I do my experimenting sans nicotine. I waste a LOT, I just can't see rinsing it down the drain. The stuff is nearly $500 a gallon.

When creating juices and jotting notes, I'm trying to create the flavors, not the effects. Once the flavors are straight, then I'll work on vapability. Adding nic into the mix is last after I'm relatively satisfied that even if it's still not quite right, I can at least vape what I've done so far.

I believe either way is plausible. You will get truer results using the nicotine in your batch sample. If one wants to wait until they have the recipe to their liking and then add nicotine to a test batch that might work. I guess I'm just not patient enough. There is no wrong way or right way here, to each their own if you get a great result in the end. But it is noteworthy to know that you don't get the true taste until you add the nicotine to the recipe batch. Happy Vaping!

I think you are much better off experimenting without nic; with vaping you actually have the CHOICE.
Once you get your base liquid with flavour worked out, you can always add nic.

I think nic also tends to cover up bad flavor (and bad atomisers giving toxic fumes).

Like DetraMental said, there's no right or wrong way as to whether to use nic or not. I guess if I was going to make several experimental batches, maybe I wouldn't use nic. But I only vape at 6 mg nic and I tend to rarely experiment and even then, I will do one or two small 3 ml batches so it's no biggy. Plus I usually vape them even though they aren't exactly where I want the recipe to be at. Luckily after awhile of making juices, I can make a test batch fairly decent and not horrible like when I first started making flavors. lol.
