I use PG nic liquid, then cut the nic with flavoring and VG, because I prefer a more viscous liquid. You can use PG + flavoring, or VG + PGA (Pure Grain Alcohol) + Flavoring. I would keep the viscocity to that of PG at a minimum. Too thin and you won't get good vapor production and possibly flood the atty.

You will want to use an e-juice calculator. Scubabatdan's is the best one out there IMO.

There are a lot of possibilities really, and some flavors don't require as much of a percentage of your mixture due to their strength.

Well for now I have no nic juice. I have read the warning on extracting nicotine and I am aware of how dangerous it is. I also have an endless supply of fresh tobacco as I live on a tobacco farm. I'm still leary of making my own nic juice. But I have tried a few no nic juices. The one thing I have learned is there is such a thing as TOO MUCH PEPPERMINT!!! If you have any good suggestions for a beginner DIY'er hook me up. I don't care for coffee, love mints and sweets, REALLY wish there was a Mt. Dew flavor lol!!

is there any danger in not thinning the VG? at the moment i am vaping a mix of about 80% VG and 20% vanilla extract... it is rather tasty, but the carts don't last very long as it were.

and a rather odd kind of question is when the carts have issue taking up fluid is there a way to clean/wash them out to restore their effectiveness?

No danger, per se, but it may not wick well if it is too thick. I use VG only when mixing (not a big fan of PG), and if the juice is too thick I add some drops of 100 proof vodka. Works great and adds to the throat hit some. I have had mixed success with vanilla extract. Whole Foods sells some nice ones (Frontier brand), and they have one that is a no-alcohol, VG only flavor liquid of natural vanilla. You could vape this stuff straight, so a 50:50 with 35 mg VG-only unfavored and a few drops of vodka gives a nice 18 mg vanilla juice.

If you search the forum, you'll see that good vanilla is not easy. I've tried three other van flavorings (stay away from vanillin, use nat. vanilla only), and so far the no-alc Frontier is the best, but it has a ways to go before it is what I am wanting. Rumor has it you can use flavored vodka for thinning, but I've not tried it yet...Smirnoff has a vanilla that has gotten good vaping reviews, and at $12 a bottle, that's a little more than what you pay for flavorings.

I took me a few weeks to get things right with DIY...sort of like trying to become a gourmet chef over night! :D

And toast, about the carts. I have a baggie that holds my used carts that are now frayed or just used a lot for days. Periodically I take those used carts, pull the wet fillers out and put them into a 10 mL syringe barrel. There may be 20 of them. Then I put in the plunger, and press the liquid into an empty dropper bottle. This juice can, depending on what you have been vaping recently, be excellent or not. Sometimes it becomes my current favorite, and its like getting a free day or so of vaping (not the DIY vaping is expensive). The filler material compressed in the syringe can be removed with long tweezers or a thin chopstick works too, and the filler material can be soaked along with the empty carts in 100 proof vodka, removed and dried, and often can be reused. The vodka will sterilize everything pretty well.

Vape proud!
