New to mech mods and building, I could really use some help with this coil

OK so I just want to say thanks in advance and hopfully someone can help me out here because my 2 local vape stores were not much help.

I recently bought a mech mod, before that all I used was vv/vw deviced like the itaste, ego twist, etc.

I got a smok Tech Magneto it is a gold color.
smok Tech RSST
IMR18650 Efest 2000 battery

I was firstly given a .32 round ribbon wire, ss mesh, and a steel cable looking thing.
I tried several times to use this and nothing I tried from videos and posts on here showed it using this stuff.
SO
I went to another local store and asked what is recommended for my setup.
I was given .30 wire, and a bigger sheet of ss mesh wick

OK so I watched just about every video out there and I understand what to do but not matter what I try I cant get it right.

I will post some pics.
but basically the first few times I pulsed the battery and it could barely light and I assume it was the wire it was more like a ribbon or round wire. The new wire I did 3 wraps and it reads 0.9-1.2ohms which the slightest move of the wick changes the ohms.

but Idk if its not wicking correctly or if its a hotspot (its burns all the way without the wick just fine.) The vape taste like .... and no vapor at all really.

I am not sure what to do but as of now the flavor, throat hit, and vapor is nothing compared to a normal vv/vw I really want to like this bad as I have put $150 into it already.
any and all help would be amazing I am willing to start fresh so if anyone can walk me through it with what materials I have so I can get a good vape from this thing that would be amazing!

what I have

my coil / wick

and then this happens, idk maybe the wick isnt pulling enough juice? maybe its to low of ohms?

I am not sure but please any and all help to get me vaping with this stuff would be amazing!

Well, there's a couple things going on here. Primarily, I think, your electrical current is running through you stainless steel mesh wick and not the resistance wire wrapped around it. This has to do with "oxidizing" your wick (burning it's surface with a torch, or with the coil itself). Once your wick is "oxidized", the current will find the easiest path to be through your resistance wire / coil. After that, there's a lot of practice and technique that goes into setting up a "genisis" style tank atomizer with an SS mesh wick. The coil has to be wrapped perfectly around the mesh. Very even tension and contact. You should read these blogs. They've helped a lot of people.

Many have moved away from the SS mesh wick idea, using cotton (or other wicking materials) in or on their "Gennys". (the SS really is a PITA, and maybe not worth the trouble). Try searching for word combinations like "genesis" or "genisis" and "cotton wick".

The first setup you got is a style where the SS (i hope) cable is the wick; but your coil is going to short out on it. So you wrap a little SS mesh around the section of the cable where your coil is wrapped, the SS mesh is either torched to oxidize it, or "pulsed in", where you (before adding e-liquid . . . so, "dry") do short button presses and watch the coil slowly start to glow, and make it's glowing way down it's own length. The heat of the coil is singeing the mesh under it's path, and oxidizing only the necessary parts (the parts that touch).

Your wick seems a bit large in diameter. (Reduce the coil inside diameter as well so it matches the wick when you make this correction).

Your coil also has uneven spacing.

I can't tell the mesh direction but it should be [X] not [+] for best wicking performance.

I use a gas stove to oxidize both the wick and coils I make, a torch works too. I oxidize the wick after I get it as tight as I can freshly coiled, the oxidization process removes a lot of the springyness and allows me to get a really tight wick with a little more work. (Side note: higher mesh counts work best with high PG fluids, low mesh counts work best for high VG fluids).

Torching the coil also helps remove the springyness that makes it hard to adjust your coil.

Your close, just keep trying, you will get it.
