Hello, I'm not new to vaping but I am new to mech mods. I recently ruined my sony battery by discharging it all the way (I wasn't aware my charger didn't work, but local vape store replaced charger for free)

I also got a new battery from there. This battery says on it
"HGB18650 2200mAH - H1223P"

Now my question is, I've heard horror stories of these things blowing up. I have two rda's at the moment, one is a plumeveil at .5 ohms, the other is a onslaught a-mod at 1.0 ohms.

I am just wondering, because I know obviously the onslaught at 1 ohm would be safer, but how much of a risk of danger am I in? I don't want this thing blowing up, or catching on fire. Please fill me in with whatever I should know.

Thanks in advance,
Johnny.

C'Mon, Seriously?!?!?

ANY electronic device, including your charger, that is smoking should have the power disconnected and then put in a safe place until the smoking ceases.(Or run like Hell :D )

As far as the specifics of your battery goes, "HGB18650 2200mAH - H1223P", it has a current draw of only 4.4 amps. http://www.globalmarket.com/product-info/lithium-polymer-battery-repaceable-ego-battery-18650-1790948.html
I would not recommend using it in a mech mod with a sub ohm build and, even though the website states that it is an ego replacement battery, I personally wouldn't use it in ANY rig, mech or regulated.

Here's some basic battery information:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/blogs/baditude/5163-12-deeper-understanding-mod-batteries-part-i.html

Now, additionally - Mech mods and sub-ohm builds are as safe as the user. I use a nemesis mech with a 454 big block atty and dual parallel coils at .25 ohms all day - EVERY DAY with no issues. Why, because I know the limitations of the batteries that I use and stay within that safety factor.
A correct battery and set up will protect your face, hands, etc. Here's some basic info: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/sub-ohm/562106-ecf-sub-ohm-advisory.html

Please do yourself a favor and learn about battery safety, ohms law and other issues before attempting to use a mech mod. IMO, the only ways that someone could get hurt using a mech mod with a sub ohm build are by their own negligence/ignorance or defective equipment. The first is their own stupidity. The second is a lawsuit.

Since you are new to mech mods and rebuildables I highly recommend you spend some time with Baditude (one of our resident battery experts) and visit his blogs. You are now 100% in control of your own safety (and others around you). Make sure you purchase an ohm reader and a voltmeter or DMM so you can measure your builds, check for shorts and measure the remaining charge on your batteries.

Baditudes Blogs. The blogs that address battery safety, Ohm's Law, CDR (continuous discharge rating/Amps) and how they all work together are detailed below:

BATTERIES

Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR?
* Another essential read to understand which batteries are safe to use in mechanical and regulated mods. Includes a frequently updated list of recommended safe-chemistry, high-drain batteries with their specifications.

Purple Efest Batteries not as Advertised
* A cautionary blog that reveals that the purple Efest batteries may not have the specifications advertised. Also includes a commentary on "continuous discharge ratings" vs "pulse discharge ratings" of battery specs.

OHM'S LAW

Ohm's Law for Dummies (Vapers)
* My attempt at explaining Ohm's Law in layman terms and how it relates to vaping.

Explain it to the Dumb Noob: Ohm's Law Calculations
* As simple as it is to use, some people have a tough time grasping the concept. Warning: Includes graphic photos of mod explosions.

BATTERIES - WHERE TO BUY

Only buy batteries from a reputable supplier (not ebay or Amazon) as there are many counterfeit batteries being sold. Here are several reputable battery suppliers in the US.

* RTD Vapor
* Illumination Supply
* Lighthound
* Orbtronics

Got a new battery and new charger, its a "smart charger" with an automatic cutoff and the battery its also a good American brand. So far so good. No burning smell or anything of the sort.

Good to hear you got better gear. What make and model of charger and battery did you get?

What is a good American brand of battery?

Thats what i was thinking. Every battery I use is eithet Japanese or Korean. I couldnt even name an American battery. YoU probably got scammed again by you shop. Im not a big preacher of batterysafety, but it pisses me off when these B&Ms sell these piece of .... batteries to people who dont know any better.

The only 18650s I could find made in the US is Trust fire, which you wanna stat away from, in general dony byy batts that have FIRE in the name.

I am thinking the same thing. If this is the same shop that sold you the mech, charger and battery that doesn't push enough amps for your build then either they don't know what they're doing or are dangerously misleading you. Either way I would quit doing business with them.

Please educate yourself with basic electrical knowledge by reading the links others have provided.

I would highly recommend getting yourself i regulated device instead of a mech mod if you are a beginner. Yes you can still drip because you can still use dripper atomizers on regulated box mods. If you are getting into drippers i would recommend getting a box mod at least capable of 40 watts and higher. Regulated box mods have got all the protection you need to stop you blowing your face off. BUT still remember to get yourself some high drain batteries. I personally use Samsung 25r or sony vtc4 and they are great. Make sure you buy them form a decent well known vendor as some crappy vendors sell fake ones. The sigelei boxes are good aswell as the ipv boxes by pioneer4u and they are very reliable and affordable too.

Couldn't have worded it better myself. I'm new to vaping myself but I did plenty of research and asked many questions before I purchased anything. One thing I will say is if charger and battery safety elude you than sub ohm vaping of any kind RDA, RTA, mech mod or otherwise, should be avoided to prevent harm to yourself or others.
