Hi everyone.

I'm not much of a smoker but came from a family that smoked so have "played" with cigarettes since I was small. I remember when I was a child pretending to smoke, and when my parents weren't around I would sneak into their pack and pretend to smoke. When I first lit a cigarette it was an astoundingly big disappointment, I couldn't imagine the appeal when I was a kid, the hot dirty smoke felt so foreign. Over the years I would repeat the process, and invariably be surprised how odd/bad cigarettes tasted - and how long the taste would linger in my mouth.

Well, as I became an adult, I would smoke from time to time. When I started going out with my husband, he told me I didn't smoke right. He said that I barely puffed and then blew the smoke out. I didn't see the difference. Well, I finally figured out what he was talking about and started to enjoy smoking. Thing was, I still didn't smoke much. I could easily go three weeks without smoking, then I might have three in a day, just to skip a week. Usually a pack lasts past their freshness for me.

I like to smoke once in awhile, and my brand is VS 120 menthol. I think I'm mostly into the "action" of smoking, more than the nicotine or the smoke. Sometimes I'll have a peppermint candy while I smoke, I like that flavor. I've noticed that since I don't smoke much, the best cigarettes are the first ones from the pack, after it's been a few weeks. Conversely, the last ones remind me of when I was a kid and how bad they really taste. I agree with the many posts I've seen where people like the smell of a fresh pack of cigarettes. Sometimes I've chosen to just "puff" on an unlit fresh cigarette for the flavor - though it doesn't deliver any real satisfaction that way.

What I'm curious about is what might be a good product for me. Is there something that can be recommended that a beginner can try out without a large investment? Are there products I should avoid? I'm so glad I didn't try any of those "Free Offers" I'd seen.

Too many questions... sorry about that.

Hello Rae!
It doesn't seem that you have a nicotine "addiction" at this point so my first suggestion would be that you go for no nic liquid! No point in starting an addiction you don't have...

That said, you might want to check out Liberty Flights as they are in the same state as you and they have awesome deals on kits. If you don't smoke often you may just want to go for a 510 kit as they are inexpensive for a starter. Ego and Riva kits cost more, but that is reflected in the longer battery life. Those of use who smoked regularly usually end of with one of those for the long battery life. (around 6 to 10 hours rather than about 2 hours) Anything with a 510 connection is easy as parts are widely available and inexpensive. I would avoid anything "proprietary" (smoking everywhere?) as the replacement carts are expensive and can only be bought from them. I would just pick up a 510 from LF and some no nic liquid and you would be good to go for awhile. I prefer cartomizers but only because atty's only seem to last me for 2 to 3 weeks, but if you are only using them on occasion they would last you longer and I think cartomizers would get nasty tasting sitting around with liquid in them and not being used... You could also easily make your own no nic liquid to use as the ingredients are readily available at your local drugstore and flavors can be bought at most cake/craft shops. I don't imagine they would have tobacco flavors though, lol... you would have to buy that online...

Hope that helps!

Hi and welcome to ECF. From what you describe a small unit would fit your needs nicely. If you haven't done so already you might want to watch http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/120044-i-made-videos-newbies-particular-broke-newbies.html. They're full of helpful information for those just starting out. I would second the no nic liquid. It's easy to make an you can do it for pennies. Just add flavoring to PG or VG liquid and you're set. One of the videos explains how to make juice, you just wouldn't add the nic to it.

Thanks so much. It really helps to have to some direction. There are too many choices and pitfalls to go it alone.
:)

Any opinions about VG versus PG?

PG generally allows for more of the flavor to come thru and gives a stronger throat hit....VG makes more vapor. I think many, if not most, regular vapers get a blend of the two. I personally get 80%PG/20%VG. Some of the "made to order" juice makers will let you customize that blend however u like.
